Disclaimer – this is not an official recruiting thread – there are some here. The opinions here are mine alone yet I hope they are shared by my fellow SBIers.
First – if you consider transferring it means that, for some reason, you are not happy with your current server. That’s ok – it’s a game and you should do whatever it takes to have fun (as long as you’re not annoying others). Still, since you are paying a lot of gems, make sure you might find what you are looking for. Unrealistic expectations are the cause of a lot of suffering.
The buzz is that SBI is the place to transfer – it’s a reality. We had many guilds coming over during the last month, PvX and WvW alike. It’s not a bad thing – some of us (mostly the WvW people like Yulo and Star) have made a lot of effort to get this done. I can say for most of the people I’ve met that they’re also happy to see new faces, WvW and PvE alike – more good people on the server usually means more fun.
But we are not Kaineng nr.2 We’re not a powerhouse and probably won’t become one like we were one year ago. We’re not striving to get in tier 1. Hey, we’re not even tier 2 material yet (but we would love to fight them
)
SBI is a community that survived some intense hardships. One of the things we learned, the hard way, is that the moment you start caring about points and rank you’re in for a lot of pain and ugliness. So we are very careful not to worry about points and rank – not because we are not competitive spirits (we sure are!) but because that’s the devil’s path.
We had talks about tanking for 13th spot. The answer was an unanimous “S…w the points! We want to fight”. Now there is the specter of higher rank servers tanking and pushing us into a top 6 where we honestly don’t belong. Which is frustrating since many of the newcomers picked us precisely to avoid the top tiers. But I guess the answer will be the same – we’ll fight the best we can, every matchup and we’ll see what happens after.
And getting stuck in the top 6 while having a r8-r10 coverage could become painful for us. But just imagine the battles, the glory, the bragging rights ! Who cares about where we will be after. Live the day.
Here is how I like to describe what WvW is on SBI (and always was – it’s inspired by a post I’ve made back when we were fighting the Titan Alliance )
“As far as WvW “philosophy” – I always liked to compare the SBI WvW guilds to bands of roaming Vikings. Fierce and savagely effective fighters, looking for memorable battles, loot, glory and bragging rights. Not overly concerned with the scores, ready to make fun of fellow Viking bands when deserved, ready to join forces when there is a reason (like more loot and glory). Respectful to enemies who fought well, humble in victory (not really actually :woohoo: ). When they lose a battle – it’s just an occasion to get better and get back."
So – make sure this is something you can live with if you come here. Don’t expect a server – wide planned and structured effort towards winning the matchup. But it can happen. There will be crushing defeats in the next few weeks/months. But there will be beer to share with your fellow SBIers while planning how to get your just revenge !
(Speaking of revenge, right now on SBI there is excitement about maybe meeting SoS somewhere in the close future !)
Tl:dr – SBI is not a powerhouse, not planning to become one. Expect us to win and lose match-ups. But it will always be fun, hopefully.
