Because there is no way to distinguish what server you are on, many guilds will pass over your thread simply because they don’t have time to read through them all. Make sure you post your server name or acronym (like Fort Aspenwood would be FA) and the type of guild you’re looking for ((if you want to do both PvE content and some PvP, for instance, you’re looking for a PvX guild) INSIDE of your thread topic.
So this might look like:
“Returning Player looking for PvX guild on FA”
Help us find you by being as specific as possible! I guarantee you’ll get better results this way. If you have any advice to help people find a good guild, please feel free to post here.
Hope this helps, and good luck as you search for a gaming community.

Thanks Fiend for posting this.
My two cents here is for people to include whether or not they are willing to guest or transfer servers and what times they play.
The reason for the play times is that some guilds, like my own, are trying to maintain certain numbers and don’t want to grow at certain hours; we like being a small guild, we just want to be that around the clock.
The other reason is if a guild wants to serve just NA, you don’t want to be the only person on in guild at 3 am.
The more information you give us, the less time we both waste.
An example of what I’m talking about would be:
“Looking for a casual guild. Willing to guest or transfer for the right guild.I am usually on from 1am to about 4am EST.”
Keep in mind this is just a partial example, you’d still want to put in some more details about what you like to play and a little personality as well.
Thanks for reading this folks. Good luck with your respective searches.
Some really useful advice, there.
Server
Time Zone
Playstyle
These are the three things that I look for, ideally, right at the start of the post, if not in the title. It really helps.
+1
More information offers more chance that those recruiting will be able to better match you to the guild they are recruiting for. Being specific helps you find what your looking for and helps the recruiters find what they are looking for too
+1 and a bump (Can we get this, or something like it stickied to the top of the forum?)
+1
Sticky this please.
From a prospective LFGer to a recruiter: Would you prefer a medium-sized wall of text of details, or do recruiters prefer TLDR versions? I like details, as I believe that “lf good guild, pst” is a waste of everybody’s time, but what constitutes the other end of the extreme for you?
For me personally, I prefer some personality along with the details. I want to get a feel for who I am letting into my home.
For me it’s important because my guild is small with recruiting caps because we want to keep it tight and personal. So when I see someone who takes the time to not just give the facts, but actually tell me something about themselves, it makes my decision to contact them that much easier and what I can tell them about us more exact and personal.
I’m sure for every person like me who personally responds to someone’s post, there are probably a dozen more who don’t care for the same thing I do because they just want/need numbers. And that’s fine too but, I think in the end you’re going to get out exactly what you put into the process.
So having said that, I think it is ultimately just personal style and needs. If you just want anything you’ll get just anything but, if you want a place to call home, that fits your needs, your best bet is to express that and then take the time to weed through the responses and talk to those you like.

Fhi: It really probably depends on the personality of the recruiter/guild. My best advice is to express yourself in the way that is comfortable to you, and that’ll make it more likely that a guild who appreciates your style will find you interesting.
For me personally, I like detail about people’s preferences so I can make an educated decision as to whether they’d be a good fit for RoMS. I’ve passed over posts that just say “I’m a level 80 Engineer looking for a guild” because it doesn’t say anything that’s important to me; and I interpret that as meaning our priorities don’t mesh.

@Fhi
The topic of your thread is very important to make sure you have the right recruiters reading your thread, after this, information like what kind of people you enjoy playing with, how long you typically play a night, potential repping, and work situation etc, are all very important to make sure you will fit right within a guild. All guilds have a trial phase where new members are vetted to get this type of information, but you can skip a lot of the process (and alot okittenwardness) if you’re very clear inside your thread about what type of guild you’re looking for and will be comfortable with beyond just the aesthetics normally touched on in guild recruitment threads (PvX…150 members… hardcore… These are all very vague). The reason this specific thread is so effective, imo, is that I know exactly what my guild can and will provide and am looking for players that it would best serve, and the only way I can know that, is if you say it here.
Hope that helps!
just a post to bump this important and helpful thread.
For me, I’d like to see details up front, then personal info. Especially helpful are things like playstyle (PvP/PvE/WvW) and times online, whether or not the LFGer is willing to transfer/ other guild commitments – basic type of info that can help a recruiter determine if you are a good fit on the basic level. After determining whether a person is a good logistic fit (you don’t want a PvP player in a PvE guild, etc) then its really nice to have an idea of the person that you will be potentially inviting. even if the person is not a good fit (for whatever reason) I’d much rather read about a person than the bare bones (tldr) type of posts.
I find that anyone who cant be bothered to take the time to read your post is being rude by requesting a TLDR. TLDR is rude and disrespectful to the person who put the effort into writing a detailed (and more often than not well thought out) response/post.
I would love for the world to just see TLDR for what it is and stop being lazy and rude.
BTW Cory, i loved your LFG post. Thanks for being so forthcoming about yourself.

Plus one and Amen on all points
I would love for the world to just see TLDR for what it is and stop being lazy and rude.
I started a petition to rename TLDR to stand for Too Lazy, Disrespectful and Rude. *nods* Petition can be found herERROR 404 SITE NOT FOUND.
thumbs up!
Giving a bump to a helpful thread.
Bump, +1, and stickypls.
Bump!! Lots of great info here for people trying to find a good fit :-)
Bumping a great post. Sticky please

good advice, but what’s even worst is recruiter who will post in any thread even when the poster stated the server that they are seek a guild on. Perfect example would be SeeingBlue.8453, he just spam his reply to anyone’s LFG thread.
Giving this another bump.
Giving another bump
Bumping up -
we need to get this stickied for people.

we need to get this stickied for people.
Yes, please.
Honestly, it would be nice if this subject were divided between servers with one labeled for willing to transfer. I have seen other game forums divided in such a way.
p.s.- bump!
One more bump for a worthy cause.
Hey everyone! Just wanted to thank those who have given helpful advice via this thread and have been consistently keeping it easy to spot for people who need it!
Many thanks, much love!
Another bump for a worthy post.
Moving this back to the top where folks can see it.
Keeping this easy to spot for everybody, hope it offers some insight
Another bump for something that should be sticky. Have a good day folks :-)
Ill bump it too. As an officer it makes it so much easier on us when we have all the information. Sticky this thing already
Bumping up again, but I second the sticky idea!
A post was made to help people know
The information to list here
And help guilds to grow
Anet ignores our many humble pleas
Perhaps someday
They will “make Sticky Please”
-Vel
bump. Thanks for keeping this easy to spot, yall! I really appreciate all this continued support. Hopefully it’ll get stickied at some point, but until then, let’s keep this easy to spot for those that need it
Keeping this on top for easy access.
Keeping this easy to spot. Sticky this please Anet, help us help each other.
I just wanted to add that the majority of the time, when im browsing the LFG posts for possible recruits i pass right over the ones that dont put any real information in thier posts. Those people, could be a great fit for my guild, and we could become fast friends if they were just to put a little effort into posting in more detail what they were looking for.
Please please please people. We want to be able to get to know you. Give us some more info to go off of! :P
Oh and bumpity bump bump cuz this topic is very awsome and totally should be stickied
Bumping up a useful post.
ALTERNATIVE toTRANSFER COSTS for NEW PLAYERS
Here is something for brand-new players to consider when interested in a particular guild but not wanting to pay for a transfer to that guild’s server::
If you’ve only got a couple of low level characters (i.e. levels 1- 15, or even up to 20), you could simply delete them so that your account is empty and transfer to that guild’s server for free.
When you consider the financial cost to transfer to a high population server, whether you’re paying with gold or real money, versus the time investment to bring a new character back up to level 15 or 20 (this can be done in a day), it does make sense.
If you’re worried that the names you picked for your deleted characters won’t be available, please consider that it is highly unlikely that someone else is going to grab those names in the full half-minute it takes to transfer.

Bump up to top again
Youve gotta be kidding me… even in this topic? >.> are you a bot?
Lol…that is awesome. He in no way represents us Sorrows Furnace guild masters.
I’d say I’m surprised, but then given my experience on recruitment boards, I’m (sadly) not really all that surprised.
You just knew there was going to be one, there’s always one…..
Bumping back up to the first page.
I wish the mods would just pin a thread titled “Please indicate server in title, e.g. [Jade Quarry] or [JQ]”. Obviously a lot of people who post in the subforum don’t see/read this thread.
Bimp Bumf argh! what is it again? Oh yeah, Bump !!
Again, keeping this very easy to spot for those who need it.
As a busy guild leader, if a thread title doesn’t hold server or NA/EU etc, or preferred playstyle, I don’t even click on the thread.
