I am a casual to medium-core player. I am looking to get more out of the game by joining a guild. I have been playing on and off since launch trying to get a feel for the game.

I left WoW because I wasn’t hardcore enough to pull off raiding, but I otherwise enjoy mmorpgs a great deal. I have a full time job with regular hours, a girlfriend who also plays, and hobies outside of Mmo’s. I prefer PVE, but want to get into WVW. I am seeking a guild that can appeal to dedicated but ultimately casual players. I want to join a guild to connect with a group of other players who want to experience all the game has to offer together. I also like feeling like I am a part of a team and contributing to a larger goal.

Home world: Stormbluff Isle
Characters: 36 Human Warrior plus a variety of lowbie alts. I intend to have one of each eventually but favor Warrior, Guardian, ranger, and Elementalist professions.

Hey there Nullcoda!

[UM] is a PvX guild that is friendly and helpful to all levels. We too are casual to semi-casual so our events are all scheduled and are drop in attendance depending on what interests you! I love that you play for the team, as in our WvW squad, we stress to play for the team and that there are no solo heroes here, everyone contributes to our success. Plus, we also have our events so that everyone can reach their goals in game progression. I’ll post our guild blurb and let you find out more about us that way.

Good luck in your search and thank you for reading!
————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Who We Are
We are a PvX guild with a pride in respecting others, no matter their play style or play level. We also are tight knit and enjoy getting to know one another through activities such as Dungeons, WvW, Fractals, sPvP, or partying up in PvE to do Orr events and
Dragons, and even helping with lvling main characters and alts.

The Unholy Mackerels has a core group of active members and we are building upon that, however doing so slowly so we get to know each and every one. We currently are a medium sized guild with 65 members, consisting of mostly NA members.

We are quite the social guild through teamspeak and guild chat. We use teamspeak but do not require it. Our newer members can listen in on the first few days and talk when they feel comfortable, however most talk within minutes because of how easy going everyone is!

What We Do
We currently run weekly scheduled WvW, Dungeons, Fractals, Guild Treks and Guild Bounties (Guild Rush unlock is currently 50% done). Members of “Regular” rank are granted abilities to schedule events too to ensure the guild is having fun the way it’s members want to! Also we provide FUN events and random guild chat trivia with prizes. There is always something going on daily, typically between 6PM-1AM Eastern.

What Server We Are On
You can find us on the Fort Aspenwood server. A tier 2 server for WvW, has a busy PvE population in maps, has a friendly community forums for all things GW2, also has a community teamspeak where everyone is welcome which also has our own guild channel (however we use our private TS in most cases). All-in-all, a server that enjoys working together through good communication while playing to just have fun.

What if I’m not on FA?
No fear! UM allows recruits to guest for up to a month in order to help everyone to have time to gather in game gold or irl money in order to transfer. Our staff and members are also more than willing to help by running events to help out! With all the events we run it is very easy to make the money to transfer in as little as a week.

How to Join Us!
Take a look around on our website to see more about us and our events we run and click “Join” to fill out our simple and easy app. If you have any questions, feel free to ask any one of us, we would definitely be happy to answer!

Well, I confess you had me until changing my home world. Unfortunately the small group of friends I do play with are well established here on Stormbluff and I would be very reluctant to change worlds. I appreciate the reply though! I wish you the best of luck in recruitment and should I change my mind about home world, I will look you up.

Hi Nullcoda. Seeing your post about wanting to play on Stormbluff, I won’t bother with my recruitment spiel. I actually transfered from Stormbluff for my current guild, so I have a special place in my heart for the server. I suggest you look around on www.stormbluffisle.com as well as here for some good guilds. Off the top of my head I know Kiwi and Karm are big ones if they are both still on SBI. Additionally the SBI people are really friendly— try heading into Lion’s Arch and asking for suggestions or for recruiters to PM you info about their guild. That should net you some responses quickly that are guaranteed SBI.

Hey there Null!

I see you’re really into sticking with your home world of SBI, and honestly, I can’t blame you. Myself and my guild, [VZ], have been with SBI since headstart, and we love the community here too. We’re a medium-sized PvX guild on the SBI server, and we participate in both WvW and PvE, with a focus primarily on PvE. I want to emphasize that we’re not a meatgrinder guild with 300-500 members, and we focus on being good friends with everyone of our members to the best of our ability. In lieu of that, you might say we’re a tight-knit community of pals. I am, as you might have surmised from my signature, a commander on SBI who leads periodically on weekends. We’re primarily an end-game guild, but we’re very friendly and love teaching newer players the ropes, and would love nothing more than to work with you as you level up to make sure you kick butt when you get to L80 and start running dungeons and other things in earnest. We do all high-end PvE and we’re bloody good at it, and are looking for others who share that kind of drive.

If you want to know more about the guild, first check out the link in my signature, but feel free to PM me here or in-game for even more information. I’d love to chat with you at your discretion and resolve any questions you might have. I also forgot to mention, but we have Bounties, Treks, and Rushes for guild missions, and are well on our way to getting Challenges in a month or so.

We enjoy GW2 a lot, and we’d love to have you along for the ride. Let me know if you’re interested, and either way, good luck finding what you’re looking for.

Apparently I cannot send PM’s yet due to spam control: I had intended to copy most of this message into this thread anyway as I felt it was some additional insight into my motivations as a player, but this would have otherwise been a PM to you Rising Dusk.

Meat grinding seems to be something that gets on your nerves and I’m not sure I understand the reference in context. Can someone please explain it to me?

I know I’m looking to reach end game content and I want dungeon tokens and all that other neat jazz! (I’m a sucker for some of the token armor sets, and I love appearance customization.) Though I am looking for a group to belong to, I am also aware of my practical reasons for wanting to join a guild. Those being enabling me to run dungeons and level more quickly in challenging zones by having a regular group to play with. This may fall in to the aforementioned meat grinder scenario, though I certainly hope it does not.

I do run a small friends and family guild which is why I am married to staying in SBI, but this guild numbers 2-4 members at any given time because my friends that were invited also have their own family guild. I don’t want to throw that away but it is not my primary interest either, just a convenience for my girlfriend and I. I want to belong to something more that that and actually represent a real group.

Some Important Questions:

  • Can I bring my girlfriend with me?
  • Does your guild roster have other new alts or a group in the mid-late 30’s or lower currently running?
  • If not, do you have a group of members on regularly willing to Mentor in lower level zones?

Primary concerns:
1: I don’t think I have the time or dedication to run a serious guild that will be what I want it to be and I’m a bit shy for putting myself out there in the recruitment circle, though I’ve thought about doing it anyway.

2: I don’t want to get into an established group only to end up continuing to play the 1-79 game by myself. I left WoW, STO, TOR, and CoH/CoV for similar reasons.

As for my personal aspirations. I want to be a team player. I want to experience all the game has to offer. I want to help others experience all the game has to offer. I don’t necessarily aspire to officership, but I do aspire to leadership. I like to be organized for events and I like organizing events. I play MMO’s to play with others. I’m not in it to solo.

Heads up, “meatgrinder guild with 300-500 members” is probably referring to the huge guilds who just want the body counts so that their events/WvW/etc have a huge turn up and good rewards, but are not focused on developing things like friendships and fun. In those types of guilds you really have to go out of your way to actually meet people and develop a group, otherwise you’re just a number on the roster.

Apparently I cannot send PM’s yet due to spam control

No sweat. I’ve had other people run into similar issues. Apparently it’s so newly made bot accounts can’t spam players with “Buy Gold!!” PMs.

Meat grinding seems to be something that gets on your nerves and I’m not sure I understand the reference in context. Can someone please explain it to me?

Like the user above said, it’s just a reference to guilds that are 300-500 people and only care about numbers and not about knowing you. We are not that kind of guild, and we want to get to know you as a person, and we want to be your friend. We want to include you in our tight-knit group, and we want you to enjoy us as people too. Some players really like being in a 500 man guild that has groups for everything all the time but where no one really knows each other, and that’s fine for them, but that’s not us. I bold that in the thread because I want to make sure people know that about us up front.

I know I’m looking to reach end game content and I want dungeon tokens and all that other neat jazz!

No, you’re totally fine. Based on what you’re talking about here, you want a tight knit and casual group, and that’s us. What you don’t want based on what you’re describing here is the supermassive, impersonal guild, which is great because we aren’t one of those.

I do run a small friends and family guild which is why I am married to staying in SBI, but this guild numbers 2-4 members at any given time because my friends that were invited also have their own family guild.

That sounds perfect. You could bring your whole family along if you wanted / they wanted. You also don’t have to leave your family/friend guild if you don’t want to. We don’t require 100% representation, though if you do it we certainly appreciate it because influence is always the thing we need most.

Some Important Questions:

  • Can I bring my girlfriend with me?
  • Does your guild roster have other new alts or a group in the mid-late 30’s or lower currently running?
  • If not, do you have a group of members on regularly willing to Mentor in lower level zones?
  • Absolutely.
  • Yes, I actually have a L42 right now I want to level at some point. There are usually players leveling alts, and all you have to do is reach out to them.
  • Depending on the sort of thing you’re doing (map exploration / whatever), I or someone else would probably be willing to help out. We’re all also very helpful with newer players, and would love nothing more than to answer your questions as you acclimate to tougher areas.

1: I don’t think I have the time or dedication to run a serious guild that will be what I want it to be

That’s why it’s convenient that we’re a casual guild. I work 8-12 hours a day every day of the week including weekends, so I know what it’s like to have not a ton of time to invest on the game. Don’t worry if you don’t have the time, but I’d certainly love to give you a reason to be a bit dedicated! The end-game content is really fun!

2: I don’t want to get into an established group only to end up continuing to play the 1-79 game by myself.

Well, I’m a little different personally. I like running 1-79 by myself usually because it teaches me to be better at the class, and because I run group content so much that sometimes it’s nice to be alone. That said, you can hop into your first dungeon as early as 30 (story) or 35 (explorable), so it’s not too rough. Furthermore, you can probably find random people to run around with early on. Also, fortunately, leveling is really easy and really fast. You won’t be spending months getting to 80; at most it takes me maybe a week of dedicated work to level an alt up to 80. I can’t guarantee you’ll have someone with you ever step of the way because we’re not a massive guild, but I can guarantee you that if you represent, you won’t be alone because we’re very chatty and helpful when we can be.

As for my personal aspirations. (…)

You sound perfect, really. I never would’ve asked for so much from you (the length of your post), but I really respect and admire that you put in that kind of effort. And just to put it in perspective, one of our current officers joined VZ at level 6 or so on her first alt, and now she’s a great member of our community and helps lead whenever she can. If she can do it, anyone can. That said, I greatly appreciate your ambition, and I think you’ll find a lot of like-minded individuals among our group.

Phew, that ended up being long! Hopefully it addressed your points!
