Hello! My guild Greystone Court [GREY] is looking for more veteran GW2 players to join us. At the core, we are a very small guild on Gate of Madness, with only about six to ten active reppers who all primarily speak English and live in North America. Most of us have been playing since launch, and I play with them all on a regular basis, so I can vouch for each of them. That said, we are looking for like-minded players to join us, as I’m sure there are a few of you out there!

Things to know about our guild:

We’re mostly all GW2 veterans. Some are GW1 veterans (I’m not!) And we’re good at this game!
We’re very mature… I think! Exceptions may occur! Also, I’m pretty sure we’re all around 20-30 years of age (I haven’t asked!), and we play mostly during the evening/late night during the weekdays, since we got things to do earlier in the day!
We’re about “playing” the game! Most of us have a lot of the things we want to obtain, and we generally play for fun nowadays, rather than to “get stuff”.
We like to run dungeons quite a bit! All of us have had the Dungeon Master title for quite awhile. While we like all parts of the game, we are mostly about dungeons.
We have a casual playstyle: while there is nothing wrong with strategy, sometimes its simply unnecessary (for example: we stack near pillars in AC P2, but we don’t generally do it in CoE for Alpha fights).
We do not generally use exploits or skip mobs. If someone needs it we will skip mobs (because of time constraints or otherwise), but we usually like to do normal dungeon clears. This is true even in FotM 48, and we haven’t had any problems with doing it the old-fashioned way!
We have a lot of guests! Despite our small size, we have all guild missions unlocked, and we like to invite friends (or even random people that happen to be around) along to join us for missions. We have successfully completed Langmar Estate with only six of us though! We usually do our guild missions around on Sunday at ~8PM PST (server time).
We’re not big on voice chat! While there’s nothing wrong with it, I prefer keeping conversations in Guild Chat for everyone to see and participate in. I find it unnecessary in PvE content.

So if you like what you see! That’s good! However, there are somethings you should know before considering to join our guild:

While any nice person is welcome to join our guild, the purpose of this post is to find people who wish to be an active part of a small, tight-knit group. I don’t have any rep requirements, but I am looking for more core members. If you already are established in another guild, you should stick with them unless you are looking for a change in pace!
As I mentioned and at the risk of acting snobby, we are veterans and we are good. If you don’t fit those criteria, that’s fine as long as you are willing to learn and can see yourself playing GW2 for a bit. Sure, we mess up sometimes, but we don’t put ourselves or other players down, and instead try to do better.
We’re not elitist in the least bit. While everyone complains about pugs every once in a awhile, we are very tolerant of people doing not so good! This is because we’re more about on how we perform, rather than how others perform. We don’t have to run a dungeon a certain way, preferring to just go with the flow, while also sometimes trying new things. There is nothing wrong with efficiency, but if you have to be efficient 100% of the time, this isn’t the guild for you!
Being a small guild, we are all pretty self-driven. While we prefer to do stuff as a guild, we understand it’s not always possible. So be prepared to do your own thing sometimes if you want to join!

Wow! That got pretty wordy. But that is intentional on my part because I want to make sure I find the right kind of people to join our guild. If you are interested in joining the Greystone Court after reading all that, send me a PM or reply here!
I have several characters, but my three main characters are: Destin Faroda, Lans Hamilton, and Canopus Walf. You can also use my account name on the left!

Thanks for reading!

I’m interested, but let me launch into some personal exposition first, which may turn into a question by the time I’ve finished rambling—who knows?

So, I’ve largely avoided guilds, both in GW2 and GW1. I’ve been told many times that they’re great for motivation and fun, and you’ll learn a lot about the game just by talking to your guild-mates and going through content with them. That’s all fine and dandy. My issue came on two fronts: for one, I don’t like being a pawn. I know most guilds are very friendly and most people joining them don’t feel that way about their experience, but frankly when I’m playing I like a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect, rather than walking into some large organization as a +1 zerg size modifier.

In that respect, your guild sounds like it’s right up my alley.

However, my second problem (one that I’m hoping a guild might remedy) is that my playing can be rather spotty. I’ll get on, get into something, and then play fanatically for a couple weeks. Then, either I’ll accomplish my goal, or run out of steam, or want to shift to another class for a change in style, and then I’ll realize that my alts are all still in the… “boring phase.” You know the one. No interesting armor or weapons available, haven’t quite hit the elite skill tier yet, still working through maps and quests that I’ve re-tread far too many times..stuff like that. I log into one of them anyway, or go through character creation, and just find that they aren’t stimulating me enough to keep going.

So I don’t log in, and then I just kind of stop playing for a few weeks.

My hope is that joining a guild would give me something to participate in and focus on, so that I don’t get bored and leave.

My question is—if sometimes I drop off the radar for a little while, would that be unacceptable to the guild? When you’re small, I know attendance and activity is important, and I realize that having a member like that could be a drag for you. The idea is to cut back on that behavior, but while I am a good player and try to keep involved, life does intervene regardless, and I make no guarantees.

Thanks for reading a completely unnecessary and self-indulgent essay!

For DrProfessor:

First of all, thanks for taking the time to write that out. As you can see, I get pretty wordy myself!

Both your problems are quite valid! In fact, GREY originally started as just a guild with me and my brother, because we didn’t wanted to join any big guilds, and liked to do our own thing. As time went on, I decided to invite some people we thought were pretty cool, and that’s pretty much how our little group got started! And I can say for a fact we all share your idea about not just being a part of a zerg, or else we would have simply just joined a bigger guild by now!
As for your second problem and your main question, it is completely understandable, and it is definitely acceptable! I (and the others in my guild) know that while GW2 is a great game, it’s OK to not play it all the time. To add in another anecdote, we just had a member come back to GW2 after taking a few months off to play TERA. While being in a small guild means the loss was definitely felt, I knew him well enough to know that he would eventually come back, and personally think it would be nice to have some friends to come back and play with when you want to! There really isn’t any pressure to play within my guild, and we still have some core members that don’t play as much as they used to, but if they want to start playing more I want to know they are still welcome!

One thing I’ll say to you and anyone else reading is this: while we don’t mind if you want to “disappear” for awhile, the flipside of this is that because we’re a small guild, sometimes it might seem empty! So I must emphasize the last point in my main post: while we would rather do stuff together, it’s not always possible because there are few of us. So please don’t take it too hard if activity seems low! However, I living story updates and the upcoming dungeon changes will definitely keep us around, and I usually log on everyday regardless!

Wow! I went off again. DrProfessor, let me know if you are still interested, as well as anyone else looking into us! Don’t be afraid to ask questions!

Hm, seems like a guild that I’m looking for, one with a few people to just chat too because i honestly hate huge guilds because then you just don’t know the people. Anyways I’ve added you ingame and I’d like to join if that’s fine (which I assume so) also I may be on and off sometimes because of the living story stuff, may play for a week or two, get off for another week or two and get back on for another 2 weeks and so on. Anyways can’t wait to join up.
