When I stopped playing a year ago, SoR was a T1/T2 server. We had good fights against TC and a few others. Didn’t always win, but at least it was a strong back and forth battle.

Now I log in to discover that pretty much everyone has left SoR. My guild doesn’t exist anymore, apparently transferring to TC and reforming under the name Golden Company XIII.

Basically right now I’m looking to get back into WvW action, but I’m stuck on a server that’s being completely dominated. SoR hold maybe 10% of the map right now, and after polling the team channel, people just don’t seem very enthusiastic. I don’t have the 1000-2000 gems, or the gold, to pay for a transfer, but it’s something I’m willing to work towards.

I’m not the most experienced player, but I think I would like to be. I enjoy a challenge. But I don’t know enough about the current server rankings and environment to choose a server. So what I’m looking for are recommendations. If things don’t improve on SoR over the next month or so, I’ll probably just shell out the $$$ to move. I have no ties to the server anymore, ankitten ot very optimistic about it’s improvement.

Just because SoR is being dominated this week doesn’t mean they’ll be dominated next week or the week after. Matchups are randomly assigned.

SoR got 2nd place last week and 1st place the week before.

Well, like I said, what I see now didn’t really inspire confidence. Not really sure what’s going on that would cause a server to almost entirely give up like that. But I don’t have the gems to throw down for a server swap anyway. Sorry if I came off as sounding overly pessimistic. I just didn’t expect my first experience with the game after so long to be so….uninspired.

I’ll give it some time, and I need to get in some practice anyway. Basically re-learning the game from scratch, so a lower tier server will do me good!

Anyway, I’m still open to suggestions, and I’m hungry for info on the current state of the game. Are the T1 servers still more or less the same 3 over and over again? Are the lower tier servers actually filled with real competition instead of uberzergs(I should make a character named that….) playing PvDoor?

“I enjoy a challenge.”
“I’m stuck on a server that’s being completely dominated.”
“I don’t have the 1000-2000 gems, or the gold, to pay for a transfer, but it’s something I’m willing to work towards.”

Contradiction?

Jeknar, anything taken out of context like that can be made to sound like a contradiction. Please read the entire post. I’m looking for information and advice. I appreciate your bump to my post, but do you have any info on the subject?

Look, clearly we’ve gotten off on the wrong foot somehow. I’m trying to gauge the situation and make a decision. The first thing I see after logging in after a year is my guild gone, all my friends not online, and the fighting spirit of the server completely wrecked.

As I said, I have no ties to the server any more, so it’s not at all unreasonable for ANYONE in this situation to want to take stock and figure out what to do. I am not ‘being a bandwagoner’ or looking for sympathy. I’m just after information so I can decide what to do.

I’m sorry if that somehow offends you, because it was not my intention to do so.

well.... there’s a couple things you can do
you can dig in your heels and try to do what you can to rebuild your server’s WvW. if your server has it’s own forum, become a member if you aren’t already, become active and known. if your server doesn’t have it’s own forum... MAKE ONE... advertise the snot out of it..., get out on the field and be confident and uplifting... you can turn around people’s attitudes about wvw even in a losing match if you can at least find a way to make it fun*. i know you said you have no ties to the server anymore, but... you’ll make a ton of new friends if you stay and do all this... and you can still guest with your old friends for world bosses and dungeons (gotta restock the gold for seige and upgrades somehow! XD )

OR

you can hit the world boss train and the dungeoneering HARD. keep an eye on timers so you can attend ALL the world bosses and get all their loot. perhaps even do a little bit of world exploration (i made a surprisingly good amount of gold getting my map completion recently just from all the creatures i killed as i explored and i didn’t pass up a single resource node. i harvested, chopped, and dug EVERYTHING... and salvaged all the loot... and sold it.) maybe do a little wvw just to keep your skills fresh, but the majority of your time willl be pve for a while, collecting every copper and silver.

neither is particularly easy, but you *did* say you enjoy a challenge.

OR... you could, as you said, shell out some real world $$$ to get a transfer done faster. i’m in tier 8 so i’m not 100% certain, but i *think* tier 1 and tier 2 have remained somewhat stable with the same few servers in the recent past, altho i seem to remember a complaint from TC about getting beat up in T1, but beating up T2, so not really having a super amount of fun in either tier. not sure on that either, might want to talk to a rep from TC if you were interested in that server.

*i know about this one... because i’ve DONE it. see ET forum link in my sig.

Basically from the 1matchup i had with SoR so far, their prolly t7ish. Meaning they will get dominated, but they can still dominate other servers. As for other servers.. well i’m stuck down in t8 but from what i hear/read it seems BG, JQ are still there and TC pretty much absorbed the “hardcore wvw” guilds from SoR. T2 is basically GvG heaven since most well known/good gvg guilds are in there. T3is ok judging from ppt and t4-t8 has long “dead” periods where theres hardly anyone on, so whoever has the most people during those times wins basically.

Currently in the wvw state of the game basically coverage > skill, idk how its like in upper tiers but in t8 prime time holds some good fights everywhere when numbers are even. Once u get to off hours its the same old crap of numbers = free win.

Hope this is the type of info your looking for, and if someone wants to correct me about the scene in upper tiers feel free.

one week everybody decided to play eotm and move to t2 (on sor). once in t2 sor got rolled and everybody moved to tc.

if you want something similar to what you had before i’d suggest sos/fa/or mags (unless anet makes more room in jq/bg/tc) in that case you’ll probably find people you played w/ on sor in tc. we have quite a few ex sor players on jq (where i also play) too.

from all encounters i’ve had w/ current sor they’re a pretty toxic env. but that’s outside looking in (and are constantly “training” ppl from pve), so dont know if a low pop style wvw is the type of place you want to play. its def. a different meta than high pop servers but can be enjoyable (dont know that sor exactly knows how to play it yet though) if you get in w/ a server who understands the dynamics.

Thanks for the replies, guys!

I think what it sounds like I’m looking for is the T2-T3 kind of combat. More or less even matchups without too many of those periods of time where things just die off. My work hours land square in the middle of prime time for North America, so I’m either playing during SEA times, or middle of the day for NA.

Also, thanks for the advice on farming up the gold! That should give me the time to really get a firm grasp of what’s going on.

The fighting spirit isn’t wrecked,we just don’t have WVw hardcore guilds anymore, only thing left is PVX guilds trying to rebuild and to most here Wvw isn’t serious business.just trying to have some fun nothing more.but during your play time you might be happier elsewhere, think are coverage during those times is light.

There’s definitely plenty of fighting spirit left on SoR. Sorry about your guild. You should checkout either RA or MCG. RA is a medium-sized (and growing) guild that’s mostly NA prime, but they have a reasonable group on during off-hours. MCG is a PvX guild that has an Australian-based core of WvWers, so their hours might be more in line with yours.

Sorry to bump up a very old thread, but I think it is safe to say that the rebuilding that SoR has been doing since our fall. I mean, let’s think about it…EVERY SINGLE WvW GUILD that SoR had left the server. 2 of them tried to stick it out, b ut eventually left after the majority of the originals jumped ship. This left us with a fractured WvW playerbase…but honestly, a much more stable and friendly community in WvW.

Now, we have a selection of WvW guilds. And we have a selection of very dedicated PvX guilds that definitely pull their weight. We have an established War Council leadership team, and are in the process of developing a Scout Team to cover major prime times on our BL and in our corner of EB for scouting, defending, and sieging. SoR has made vast improvements in the past couple months as we worked to build up our guilds from within, and also improve our tactics in-game.

I am sorry that your guild was gone. GC was made before the mass exodus, but they eventually bandwagoned to TC with many of the other guilds. That being said, the SoR of now is MUCH BETTER OFF than it was before when it was in T1. Guilds work together, we focus on teaching/coaching/training, and people are much more friendly. Anyone that desires to have a role in WvW here has the opportunity and is never shunned away. But, we will work with them to teach them what is right in WvW, and help them get there.

Hope to see you on the battlefield sometime!
