Hey guys, I would like to move servers along with a few friends so that we can consistently play WvW together. We’re mostly interested in 1-5-man roaming, so that should be the biggest consideration. We hear that T1 servers aren’t great for that because of all the zerging. Apparently, it’s hard to have a good 1v1 or small-group fight without being interrupted by the swarm or having backups called when someone loses. Because of this, we’re thinking that a T2 server might be ideal. I’m currently on Anvil Rock which is, if I’m not mistaken, one of the worst WvW servers. Anything that lets us consistently (server link didn’t really help with this) roam as a group would be awesome. Please send me your roaming server recommendations here, if you wouldn’t mind.
My guild [XT] is in Fort Aspenwood, we run generally 3-7 people and we usually have quite a bit of fun. I stream a lot of our runs if you want to see what it is like generally.
Its been especially fun having Blackgate in the match up, even though it won’t last. They have a lot of roamers, so does Maguuma. If JQ drops back down, it won’t be as fun because they don’t have near the amount of roamers as BG.
The lower the tier the more likely you are to not get zerged.
I find roaming is best in T3/4 as I can actually make it to the other side of the map without getting swarmed either by other roamers or by a zerg. I can find fights on my way there and on my way back without getting constantly outnumbered (or at least anything beyond 1v3).
Fights are more frequent and generally more exciting in higher tiers but also with a much lower rate of success due to players constantly adding to a fight. You might start a fight a 2v2, kill those 2 just as 3 more arrive, then kill those 3 as the first 2 come back + 5 friends, then you’re running to get away, then you run in to a zerg. Sure it can be fun but you’re not likely to live very long no matter how skilled you are.
Any tier is acceptable if you’re competent and intelligent but lower tiers are better as you’re more likely to survive a trip from one end of the map to the other and back again. Where as higher tiers, you’ll make it half way across the map and either die or will die before you can get back again.
You might want to hang on to your gems for a bit. You’ll likely role back into T2 next week to fight Mag who has a bunch of small groups, and Fa.
If you still aren’t enjoying yourself you’ll only have to deal with that match up for another couple weeks before servers are relinked. There’s a good chance you’ll get to check out one of the other tiers without spending any cash.

It seems like a lot of you have a different idea of roaming than I have.
I roam for fights, I don’t roam to just go take camps and towers without being detected. I do those things while looking for fights though. I find other small groups or just people trying to get back to their blob. Also sit at an enemy north camp and keep fighting anyone who tries to come take it lol. Call it spawn camping – idc.
T3 was pretty fun for roaming a few months ago when I was there, T4 was BORING for roaming. T1 was actually pretty decent when I was on Blackgate, but I think it would have been more fun if I was against Blackgate since they have so many roamers. T2 has been pretty good for the most part, especially since Maguuma knocked YB down a tier.
T1 and T2 are mostly skirmish or pickup fights. In prime time, fights tend to escalate with players coming and going.
T3 most of it is 2-4 players running around together making solo roaming a bit frustrating at times but great for skirmish crews.
T4 is mostly solo roamers but the vast majority get blown up by a solid player. Skirmish crews do roam around but typically they are PUGs.
There are exception in every tier and you will likely learn their guild names quickly. For example: 2+ tRex avoid unless you are crazy good and have overlapping builds in your crew (because they do). QQ, multiply what you see by 2 and prepare for some crazy burst.
