Great place to start in looking for like-minded guilds.
Welcome to the game!
(I won’t be on for, like, HOURS, so I can’t quite help at the moment. XD)

Welcome to one of the best games out there
Welcome to the game! Here some pointers to get you started:
- server selection is not as important as it used to be (we have huge mega servers now for most of the pve). World versus world (WvW) is still server dependant though. If you have friends, try to join them, otherwise any medium to high server is a good bet.
- get creative with the character creator. Running a standard human toon might be tempting, but do check out the other races. They are all awesome.
- give multiple classes a shot. But understand that the biggest differences in playstyle come at advanced levels (30+ and above) when more skills and mechanics are unlocked.
- try to tank and spank some enemy!
- great, now that you died, try to use the dodge roll to avoid enemy attacks. Get to love your endurance bar and the dodge mechanic it provides. Rember, dodging is life, doging is love!
- take you time with leveling. I’m dead serious. Walk around, check out the beautiful maps, try to explore EVERYTHING! You’d be suprised how often you’ll find jumping puzzles, hidden locations, beautiful sights far off the normal road.
- While I main a mesmer and love the class over all others, try to stay clear of following classes for a start: Mesmer, Elementalist and Engineer. Those three classes have by far the highest skill ceiling and some very unique mechanics. The easiest to get used to is probably Warrior followed by Ranger and Guardian. Thief and Necromancer should be considered intermediate (though Thief is very twitchy).
- do what ever you feel like. Just about everything gives experience and you should just follow your own preferances. You’ll hit 80 sooner than you expect, but the journey there and from there is what it’s all about.
Have Fun!
