So I’ve been playing roughly a year on and off, I came back from a little break and ended up joining a friend in a guild he was in. He’s the only person I know in it, though, and it’s hard to get to know the people in it because of the fact I play pretty casually now and I only have access to stable internet one week out of the month. The rest of the time I can be around for a small amount of time (an hour or two maybe) a few nights a week. So what ends up happening is I might get acknowledged when he’s around or when we’re doing something that requires me to listen in on TS. I have noticed a couple of “cliques” forming since several new people were brought in all at once within the past week, neither of which seem very inclusive of non-speakers on TS. I’ve seen this happening in a lot of guilds who use TS as a social outlet as opposed to using it only for things that require more organization.
I guess to try and keep it on the.. somewhat shorter side.. I’m looking for something kind of small. Pre-established or just starting up, it doesn’t matter. I just want people to chat with while we play. Randomness and silliness is a plus. Being casual, it doesn’t bother me if you don’t have guild missions unlocked yet, though if you do I’d try to be there to help out when I could be. I don’t care for wvw or pvp. Dungeons are more fun with a group that doesn’t take themselves too seriously and doesn’t mind explaining what’s going on to people that haven’t been before (speed is cool, having fun along the way regardless how fast or how many silly deaths is more cool). If you have a website or facebook group or G+ group or some way to keep in touch and share things outside of game, even better. I prefer a group that only uses its TS/Mumble/Vent/whatever when organization is needed, and uses guild chat for its social purposes the majority of the time. The reason is because a lot of times even if I have asked a guild about their usage of a voice service and how it affects their acknowledgement and inclusion of non-talkers, they always tend to say “Oh yeah we include everyone equally!” and they might do so for a week or two. But after that it just turns into only wanting to respond in TS and people in guild chat missing out on any conversation going on because we don’t want to sit in TS all the time. It has happened every single time. I have gotten used to an empty guild chat and given up on trying to initiate conversation with people because of this kind of thing. So I’m really hoping there’s a guild out there who does use guild chat almost exclusively with maybe a website/forum or something to keep in touch outside of game. I’m basically at a point where I’m finding nothing interesting or entertaining or worth doing because there’s no one there to talk to and have a good time with x.X I know that sounds like some kind of desperate rant, but it’s really the case. It’d be nice to be able to enjoy the game again and for me that means having good company.
Again, doesn’t matter if it’s a newer guild as long as it’s relatively small (when I say that I mean the number of actively online and chatting people is small so you have a chance to get to know some of those people, the number itself doesn’t matter, but then I don’t understand the whole idea of keeping around a bunch of inactive people who haven’t played in months and probably aren’t coming back anyway). I’m on Fort Aspenwood (US) right now, I won’t be able to transfer servers for a while. I did the whole server transfer thing early on for guilds before and got burned the same way I described above, so I probably wouldn’t think of transferring for quite a while anyway. Besides, with megaserver it probably doesn’t matter much anyway outside of guild vault and influence/guild perk related stuff, neither of which bothers me not to have.
Maybe all that made sense.
I don’t even know anymore.
