Guild Wars 2

Hello,

I love to play MMOs, but none of my friends are gamers, so I normally play solo. But I know MMOs would be so much more fun if playing with a couple other players – hence my post. I am very easy going and have a laid back playstyle. I’m not the greatest player, but not the worst. I play the game to have fun and relax, so I’m not one to get upset because someone keeps dying while fighting a boss or falling while trying to complete a jump puzzle – sometimes that will be me LOL. I have only run a couple dungeons and would like to run them more, but I really enjoy roaming the world, completing quests, and doing dynamic events – basically anything PVE.

I am in the Eastern Time Zone and play most evenings for a few hours (8 to 10 or so) and scattered times on the weekends. I will be on this weekend a lot, although I will probably be getting on a bit later tonight than normal.

I understand there is a ‘guesting’ thing in the game that allows people from different servers to play together, so finding some gaming buddies should be easier since we don’t even have to be on the same server.

Always looking for casual gamers to run some PvE with. Like you, none of my friends are really gamers, and the ones that are play PS3, not PC or have no interest in all the stuff that comes with MMOs, eg lore. So, aside from running into the odd group of people or teaming up with another solo player to complete the odd heart quest or skill point, I often play without seeing anyone for a long time.

I’m very much a casual gamer – I like to take my time, relax, do jumping puzzles etc. I’d love to try a dungeon but, due to the above reasons, find it hard to find the people.

I usually have to play at the weekend, as work and my need for sleep generally constrains me to only an hour or two in the evenings during the week. I’m not sure if we’d ever be on at the same time (I’m in Europe), but shoot me an invite if we are … can we add contacts anyway?

I don’t understand why people don’t just join a casual guild. There are many of them out there. Then you’re not depending on one or two guys to play with.

I’ve joined a few, but either I’m not using the system correctly or I haven’t joined the right ones. For whatever reason, I find it tricky.

Besides, nothing wrong with looking to meet new people on the forums.

I find having a guild of people, not just one or two (providing it’s the right guild of course) to be the best thing about this game. Small groups have a problem…there’s always someone who can’t make it or loses interest in the game, or has a different interest. And there are things in this game that take 5 people. It’s hard to get 5 people together even in a group of ten or fifteen people sometimes. Everyone has different schedules, interests, abilities.

A good casual guild has players that play all the time and players who come in, hang out and don’t show up for days or even weeks. But when you want someone to talk to, guild chat is there, people are around and if you need help with a boss or a skillpoint, there’s usually someone around.

Just my take on it. Finding the right guild is worth your time.

I’m kinda in the same boat, have a guild with 5 or 6 players, but they don’t play as much (playing other games). However I play every night, mainly pve (been messing around with wvw here and there), i’m on central time, on crystal desert. I usually run solo so feel free to shoot me a party invite and i’ll join in on the shenanigans.

I think most people think of guilds as structured or too structured and in some ways, guilds do have to be structured, but many casual guilds have no requirements at all. Just play as you always did and say hi occasionally.

There is one advantage to joining guilds though. Guild missions are pretty cool, and many of the existing guilds run them a couple of times a week. It’s content that you can’t easily access in a small guild and it’s content that a group of friends that don’t have a guild will probably never access (unless they join in a guild for some of the public guild missions which are available on most servers).

Anyway, without my guild, I don’t know that I’d enjoy this game as much as I do.

Well hello to all of you casual players in this thread (Gary, CrossedHose, UrMom). Gary, you are right— having friends to play with definitely makes the content more enjoyable!

Some of you mention you have tried casual guilds before with no success. I encourage you to:

1. Make friends to play with as you are doing now.
2. Keep looking for a guild that’s the right fit for you and your needs.

The reason I would say to keep looking for a guild is that unless you hate people you will probably find a guild that is right for you eventually. And even if you hate people there are guilds out there that exist solely to run guild events and don’t require any kind of participation or communication otherwise. XD

Anyway, my guild is MadCast Gaming (Sanctum of Rall), and maybe it would be a good fit for you! MadCast can be summed up as a serious community made of casual gamers. Our primary goal is to make friends and have fun, and I think this is pretty evident from our guild requirements:

We do NOT require 100% rep. We do encourage you to rep or join us in TeamSpeak as much as possible to enjoy the social aspects of our community.
We do NOT require a server transfer. If you would like to transfer we can help you towards that goal. We request you demonstrate you are a positive, contributing guild member before requesting our help though.
We do NOT require a certain level of time commitment. Many of our members have families and careers that prevent them from being online 8 hours a day. Please be respectful and honor commitments you make to attend events; that is all.
We do NOT require a specific level, class, experience, or event attendance. We have many new players and want you to have fun when you play.

Thanks all, for the advice. I’d love to get a mic (in my console experience it has helped loads and I see no reason why it would be different for the PC).

@RedJustice, does your guild have any presence on the other servers? I’m happy to guest or swap servers, but just wondered if you were particularly widespread and I might find some members on my own server (Aurora Glade). My only concern about switching to Sanctum of Rall is the fact that it is a US server and I’m not sure if there’d be a lot of lag …

CrossedHorse: while we have players scattered across other servers, I can’t say we have more than 2 or 3 on any other servers. Certainly don’t try switching without guesting. I’d try guesting for 20-30 minutes on Sanctum of Rall and see how it is for you. If it seems playable, let me know so you can find out more about MadCast! Otherwise don’t worry about it— there are tons of good Euro servers too, and I know some of those guilds are recruiting around here.

Also: definitely go for a mic. Most servers have a server-wide TeamSpeak for WvW where you can learn what’s going on and meet people (a good way to find guilds on your server: try going into WvW and asking in all chat if there is a server wide TS or vent, or ask in the WvW subforum here) and many guilds have a guild Teamspeak, vent or other voip service to connect members. It has definitely made my playing experience tons better to be involved in voice chat!

Good advice RedJustice. Re-reading my post i may have been not so clear on what i was trying to say, My guild is casual, so they don’t play as often as me, however they do play from time to time, my offer was more for the casual players looking for people to play with. Anyone looking for people to party up are welcome to shoot me an invite, i might be solo (most likely) or i might have 1 or 2 guildies with me. And we’re also recruiting, so if your interested in that we can talk about that too.
