About the Sanctum of Rall
The Sanctum of Rall server is home to many of the largest and most well known public community event based guilds in Guild Wars 2. The server community is devoted to building a fun and friendly environment for all walks of life and playstyle preferences.
Even before its launch the server was born by friendship and unity. Through the course of our time here on Sanctum of Rall we hope to give a platform for creating friendships, memories, and a community like no other.
Sanctum of Rall has been through several seasons, each one bringing new faces and ushering old friends to newfound shores. We’ve had our competitive streak and rose to the top where we sat in the top position for 8 weeks.
While the journey to first place wore a lot of people thin we began to see that the more competitive we became the more stress and frustration filled our server. By the end of the first wvw season our empire would fall, and with it came our first exodus. A valuable lesson came with this that we should never allow scores to get between our brothers in arms. Our server shed it’s truly competitive shell and began to form a tighter bond among its people.
The second season trapped our community in a tier it could not compete with and by the time it ended, the remaining few who held onto the days of old were pushed from our shores.
Today we are reminded of where we began. We did not begin on top. We were not the best there was. We didn’t come to Sanctum of Rall because it was the most competitive atmosphere . We came here to honor a man who put his best foot forward and genuinely cared about the people he led. Where unity and friendship trumped victory. Where the real victory was in the adventures you shared with newfound friends. Sanctum of Rall isn’t about winning and losing, it’s about celebrating the little victories life brings us and sharing those moments with the ones we hold dear.
Sanctum of Rall is a living testament to the kindness in all of us that shines bright in the darkest time. It’s about standing for something when nobody else will. While our days at the top may have passed, our days of kinship and brotherhood illuminate the path of our future.
If you’re looking for a competitive server you may be disappointed here but if you’re looking for a family to share epic battles, memorable adventures, a good laugh and a low stress environment look no further. We may not have the coverage to be a major contender on the battlefield but every time the Sanctum of Rall family rides into battle we leave our mark on our foes and the minds of our comrades. There is no greater victory than winning the battle you should have lost. Those are the battles we fight every day. Every day a new opportunity for an epic memory to share with those we hold closest.
Others Have A Name, We Have A Legend!

The Sanctum of Rall Legend
This server is not just an ordinary server. It is named after a player by the name Roger “Oldroar” Rall who suddenly passed away in his den late one evening. His passion in his last remaining years was Guild Wars 2. From researching the game through gaming websites to encouraging the founder of the Gaiscioch to make contact with ArenaNet, Oldroar took a passion for this game toting it to be the spiritual successor to Dark Age of Camelot and Warhammer Online.
Just weeks after his passing, Foghladha finally made contact at PAX Prime 2011 with Martin Kerstein, ArenaNet’s Head of Community. Foghladha and the Gaiscioch began on a quest to have Roger immortalized by getting a server named after him. After months of building up contacts and forging a relationship with ArenaNet the Gaiscioch amassed a “CookieZerg” in an attempt to get the idea across to ArenaNet and make their name known. Thousands of sugary treats made their way from all around the globe to ArenaNet’s Bellevue, Washington offices.
Time passed and relations continued and on July 10th, the Gaiscioch made one final attempt by sending out a Call to Arms to all past and present members and community members to write ArenaNet sharing their stories of Roger with them. Seven days later a notice arrived in Foghladha’s mailbox that there would be a server named “Sanctum of Rall”. This news sent a tidal wave through the gaming industry hitting the far corners of the MMO scene. It was reported on by blogs, gaming sites, newspapers, and even magazines around the world.
Who Is Roger “Oldroar” Rall?
For those that played Warhammer Online on Badlands or Phoenix Throne, or called Faeblight home in the early months of RIFT’s existence, Oldroar was a voice you could not ignore. He lead armies into battle, created hundreds of memories for any that followed and held family values higher than any man we had ever encountered. He was a role model, a hero, an inspiration to many.
His legacy lives on through all of us. Whether you were his ally or his foe, you knew his calm stature in battle. Last September, our hero passed on leaving his wife Karen, and several thousand virtual children and grand children behind. His passing was not easy for any of us. It was sudden and unexpected.
In his final months with us he spoke of the pastures green in Guild Wars 2. He proclaimed it was the natural successor of DAOC and Warhammer Online and that it would finally be the home we’ve been searching for all along. He spent much of his time researching Guild Wars 2, posting video’s and articles of the games progress and speaking with the eldership on forming a branch within this title. He was the inspiration that made us first contact ArenaNet about Guild Wars 2 and from that has built a lasting relationship between the Gaiscioch Family and the Developers of Guild Wars 2.
A wise woman once said that a man’s legacy is not held in what he owned at his time of death. Cars, boats, houses, all the money in the world instantly evaporates upon your exit from this life. None of it matters. Your Legacy is held within the people you impact in your lifetime. The lives you save, the lives you change, and the lives you bring to this world. Roger has changed many of us. His legacy did not die when he left this world. He passed it on to us, trusting that we would pass it on to generations to come. It began as a little wave and has rippled through all of us. It is now up to us, to make his legacy known and pass it on to others.

Features of Sanctum of Rall
The Sanctum of Rall offers many unique features that no other server chooses to offer. We take pride in our server and the legacy of our namesake and provide new players with guidance and a helpful hand. This server is special to us and we’d like to make it special for you too.
Features:
(edited by Foghladha.2506)
Sanctum of Rall WvW
Since launch, Sanctum of Rall has been on a roller coaster of population surges and departures. We have been in first place and last place. As players flooded to our server to ride the wave up, the core encouraged and supported the new arrivals. As they began to depart our server we wished them well on their adventures.
Today the core of Sanctum of Rall is alive and well. Sanctum of Rall is best known for it’s hospitality. We hold inclusive events open to all, giveaway epic loot just for calling Sanctum of Rall home, and give commanders recognition for their war efforts. Players here are more committed to one another and the purpose of our server than most servers. For us it’s not about winning and losing, it’s about kinship and honoring a fallen brother.
What you can expect on Sanctum of Rall is a lot of heart, and a lot of friendly faces. We fight as hard as we can, when we can and at the end of the day regardless of what the scoreboard says people walk away happy and satisfied. We understand we are outnumbered and do not have the coverage to amass a competitive front.
But just as we climbed from rank 17 at launch to rank 1 a year later, the tides can change in a moments notice. It only takes a few people to see the potential and enjoy the lifestyle to change the tide and send us back up the rankings once again. For now we work on making every person count and maximize our performance for the few we have.
Whether we’re tier one or tier none, Sanctum of Rall is relentless in it’s pursuit to create epic memories and lasting friendships. Join a community that loves, appreciates, and rewards you for your efforts. Become the star of the show rather than an extra in a crowd. On Sanctum of Rall every single player makes a difference and is appreciated for their efforts. Become part of the legend, and forge a story of your own.

(edited by Foghladha.2506)
I remember when I joined Sanctum of Rall. As many users from Argentina I joined Sorrow’s Furnace, because that’s where everybody was going. I felt alone, lost, even when people who spoke my same language I felt there was a huge language barrier about coordination, taking objectives, doing events. A friend of mine told me of this great server where his friend was, where people was helping eachother doing events, chat was nicer and it was a good place to be.
Those days the transfers were free, so I switched, thinking I was nothing to lose and so much to gain. I went to EB and I had no idea what I was doing, there I found GSCH, who took me in, showed me the ropes and gave me a home and a family Soon after my partner joined us in the server and in the guild, best decision ever in GW2
I remember asking for help in LA to do events in mid level areas and get a plucky group of heroes doing events with me and getting map completion all-in-one.
My apologies for the funky english, it’s not my first language :v
(I bet you guys who heard me on teamspeak read my post in my accent)
During Beta, I was on IoJ. A buddy of mine that I play games with did some research and he was really attracted to Sanctum of Rall, and he made the decision when the game was released he was coming here. Of course I had almost no choice, I would follow him to insure I at least could play all aspects with the game with someone that matched or slightly exceeded my play style. Unfortunately he doesn’t log in as much as he used to… But, I am not at a loss… I can call most everyone on this server a friend, I can depend on them, and I have a great time with them all.
I do some commanding on the server for WvW, but mostly for the laughs and good times. I would like to say that SoR is the home of the “Rainbow Golem Rush” twice a month, and if I am available to organize it. We go out to have fun, and sure it makes us feel great to win, but it also makes us feel great to make people laugh and put a smile on there face.
Anyone considering making a change in servers or looking to join a family should check out our community website. If you are looking for a guild here, click on any of the links above in Foghladha’s post. And if you are only interested in the “Rainbow Golem Rush” I am sorry, I can’t share j/k look us up!
The site which has been set up for the SOR community is top notch and administered by some great people. I have had the fortune of being one who has stood back and watched the leaders of various guilds within the community still put up a good fight in W vs W and participated in many battles where we should have definitely have lost. The server is indeed home to some very talented W vs W commanders although as some of the above posts have mentioned SOR’s main problem hasn’t been talent or knowledge its been coverage ( Meaning at certain times there simply isn’t anyone there to man the battlements on the keep ). I have seen our borderland run over by the enemy only to have it change back to our hands as we invade yet other areas and destroy those in front of us. Sure there have been times that numbers were against us but even when we failed the enemies victory was at a very high cost. This is a server that has a lot of hidden potential and a place where you can learn or move to and become another brick in an already great foundation of good people.
I would also like to mention that SOR simply isn’t all W vs W and there are many guilds on the server who participate in the greater GW 2 community. Several of my own guild mates in the NICE guild work with GW-EN and Gamer’s Giving Back as staff members. These two organizations bring the servers the Community event " Pink Day in LA ". It’s not just a run of the mill server, there is a family here and I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of it. Two years into it and I’m still learning more about the other guilds and folks on my own server. There’s been enough offered here, I have absolutely no reason to go any place else.
I first heard about gw2 from my husband, who followed it from the time it was announced until it was released. We came across this gaming community who was pushing for a server to be named after one of their dearly departed members, and I recall thinking “I want to be part of that”. So when the servers came online in head start, this is where we joined. And we joined the Gaiscioch family shortly thereafter.
I’ve played a lot of mmo’s and I’ve never seen a server with so many guilds that have banded together into a larger entity. In WvW it isn’t about which guild does what. I’ve seen 5 people from 5 guilds following a commander because that’s how we do it. I’d never participated in large scale combat like WvW before gw2, so when I took my newbie self out there I chased Fog around and died every time he ran me off a cliff. But it was fun. I’ve never gone into WvW and not had fun. Even when we’ve been outmanned, it’s still been a lot of fun. Watching the rainbow golem party is hilarious. I don’t think I would have kept doing WvW if it hadn’t been for the great people out there making it awesome.
Beyond WvW, the server does a lot of pve together. Not just world bosses or champ trains, but there’s a lot of helpful people out there not afraid to answer questions or go out of their way to help new players. Yes, every server has some bad apples, but the good ones vastly outnumber the bad ones. I’ll never change servers, even if I’m one the very few at the very end. I’ll still be here
Let’s see.
I started with Sanctum of Rall at first because I knew my guild was going to be there. I didn’t know who Rall was, haven’t met him, but the devotion shown by my guild was amazing. It was an extremely classy move on Arena Net’s part to name this server after one of it’s fans. I fondly remember the Ingame Memorial Service we held for Rodger in Shaemoor Garrison.
Going into GW2 was a little confusing at first. I didn’t know what finishers were or knew that I could combo off of my own attacks. What I did know was that there were many, many helpful people who were more than willing to teach whether they were in the same guild as me or not. The community was just amazingly helpful, and happy.
To give back to the server, I participated in my guild’s community outreach program where we go to all the starter cities and give new players a care package, (Usually 8-10 slot bags, but I’d make low-level crafted weapons for them too) and it was a lot of fun getting to talk to so many players and just knowing that I put a big smile on their faces.
Then for me, quite a few months later, came the real call for sacrifice. My guild was hosting, “The Great Tyrian Adventure”, which was a large community event for our server that featured prize giveaways. We were going to give away Legendary Weapons to people, and to do this, we needed as many materials as possible to give to the people who were going to be responsible for crafting them. Without hesitation, I gave away literally all of my T6 mats, and I mean all of it, as well as about half of my gold just to help fund the event. Later on, I also helped farm charged lodestones because that’s what we were low on.
Then came something horrible to me. My GPU melted, literally. The heatsink broke and the fan melted off. I remember the smell my computer made to this day, and it put me out of commission on Guild Wars 2 for many months due to not being able to afford a new card that was as powerful if not moreso than what melted.
Even after getting a new card, I didn’t start playing GW2 again right away. I was too focused on other games like Team Fortress 2, Rift, Planetside 2, and Warframe. Starting up Guild Wars 2 again just really wasn’t on my mind. A few weeks ago, I decided to start playing again and just like before, I’m having a blast. The megaserver update did separate the identities of servers down to WvW, but the overall Guild Wars 2 community was still a very pleasant and helpful one, but I will always have Sanctum of Rall in my heart. The people we have in WvW are patient, kind, and don’t expect for you to treat WvW as if it was a second job. My experience in SoR has been and still is overwhelming amazing, especially compared to every other MMORPG I’ve played.
I came, I saw, I kicked butt. All with SoR.
Just wanted to say Congratulations to Sanctum of Rall for turning the corner and working towards recovery. This week was the first week since Sept 10th (12 Weeks) that we broke the 200k score. Population is on the rise and so is our score. We’ve placed 2nd place 4 weeks in a row for our division after 6 weeks of being in 3rd.
This is the first step in our revival and there is a lot of potential for us in the coming weeks as DR and BP come to join the fun in the lower tiers. I want to say thank you to all of our people for making wvw the past 4 weeks such a pleasant experience for all. I also want to say thanks to Sorrows Furnace and Kaineng for showing us a good time. It’s been a lot of fun playing with you two.
Posted our current Community Events Schedule
This last couple weeks have been a blast! Everyone stepped up. Good scouting, commanders, defense, upgrading and teamwork.
Our guild has been recruiting a nice bunch of WvW players, and you can tell other guilds are also. We’re on our way to necro-ing SoR. Rumors of a few WvW guilds transferring in the winds also.
We’ll probably have Kai moving up and BP playing w/us next week. I actually think that would be good for us. Either way, it’ll be fun.
If youre looking for a server to call home, why would you choose sor?
Like the 80’s sit com Cheers, its a place where everyone knows your name. If you want to be more than just some faceless minion clicking respawn with no one noticing, if you want to be recognized for skill and hard work, sor can be your home. I can say this with a lot of certainty because I will notice
I have been playing war game mmo’s for many years, I got my start in Alterac Valley and then moved to Warhammer before GW2. The attitude towards players who want play in a cooperative way has improved tremendously.
I cant speak for other servers but sor has been the best place for players like me. If your an old jaded veteran fighter is a breath of fresh air, if youre new to mmo’s you will likely be making life long friends.
Pleased to announce our latest new feature to SanctumofRall.com
Realm Rewards
These bonus raffle rewards are awarded for earning higher scores in WvW. Each week as our points rise so do the rewards. There are 5 tiers of rewards available which can be unlocked based on the servers performance. Once unlocked, these reward raffles take place at Friday Reset, with a WvW participant chosen at random.
This system is designed to reward players for competing in WvW. All rewards donated by the Gaiscioch [GSCH] family for the Sanctum of Rall server.
I must tell you that the raffle awards are a nice bonus, but the best part of Sanctum of Rall is the community. No matter what time of day or night that you like to play, there are people here to lead or follow for lots of fun fighting in the borderlands.

What’s cool about the Sanctum of Rall?
When SoR enters maps, mobs and bosses walk up to us, drop their loot and kill themselves, unless of course we kill them first. We kill the un-killable, do the impossible, attain the un-attainable and we aren’t afraid to stand up and protect our own.
We’re the music makers and the dreamers of dreams. We’re movers and shakers that continually give T8 a run for its money. When SoR hits the field we’re the terror that flaps in the night, the migraine that never leaves, and the onion that causes our enemies to cry.
We party with friends, we party with enemies, and we know how to have a good time with both. Dragon BBQ’s are a staple of life and everyone knows its a rick rollin’ good time even if they’re all secretly there just to up their individual spoon count.
Sanctum of Rall has bested the Boogeyman. We’ve said “Candy Man” three times and lived. We’ve dared to touch the cube, and we’ve read the whole necronomicon because it looked interesting. We’ve totally outlasted the Spice Girls, Britney Spears and the Sham-wow. Rallian’s are built tough, taste like the San Francisco treat, and are currently made up of a healthy mixture of determination, perseverance, loyalty and fun!
In all seriousness, Sanctum of Rall has probably been one of, if not the best server experience I’ve had in a game in ages. Heck I’d go as far as to say it’s not just a server, its a home for those that are looking for a great group of people and guilds to hang out with. If you’re looking for a home where you can simply be yourself I think I’m right when I say you’ve probably found it.

Congratulations to Sanctum of Rall for their 5th straight week of being 1st in their Tier. Over the course of 13 weeks we’ve gone from decimated in last place (Rank 24) to forging our own future in tier 6 and beyond with rank 17 in our sights this week.
Over the years people have said a lot about Sanctum of Rall. But nothing speaks more than your courage, commitment, and perseverance to see through the darkness to the future you hold dear. The middle tiers have been great to us and we will continue to grow into a tier that we feel is right for us. Keep on driving SOR.

Anyone know why we have so many Brazilians on our server?
Because people tend to flock where their friends are. If one SoR user from Brazil recommends the game to his or her friends, more people from Brazil will be in SoR.
Also Brazil has a HUGE market of videogames and a strong gaming community.
There are around 70 people from Brazil and 10 people from Argentina in GSCH only, not counting other guilds
