PoF: Top 10 WvW Guild Reference
Years ago, a list like this would be relevant, but now the experienced players have pooled into 1-3 guilds and that pool will probably become smaller with time.
Atm, imo, the best guilds are kek or borp and then when those guilds break apart, it’ll be whichever guild those same players have gone into. It used to be a huge list and a very spread out list when this game was actually alive, but at this point it’s the same names under a different guild.
Maybe those guilds will continue to stockpile the more experienced players and run 25 – 30 deep gvg veterans. Why not? You can’t fault people for playing with their friends. Everyone likes steamrolling. ..Maybe they’ll break apart into smaller guilds and try to train new people… who knows, but I don’t see the competitive scene reviving itself anytime soon. Not the way things are going, and it’s pretty hard to pick up pugs and try to build a core with them. Combine that with how badly everyone memes on guilds trying to build… not many make it.
Also, the “rest” of our guilds all have footage of us dumpstering each other at one point in time. It’s pretty hard to tell at this point who is the better guild. Maybe over the course of the year certain guilds happened to come out on top more often than not? Everyone here has had a kitten day or two. I’m not sure what the litmus test is, but if this is a purely open field guide then I know for a fact I’ve killed almost everyone on this list at one point or another and have been killed by most at least once. It’s pretty much impossible to get an objective view at this point.
All that being said, VII has always been fun fights. As have the rest of you. All we can really do now is go down with the ship as we get 1 new thing added to WvW every 4-6 months in the hopes that we all stay interested enough to keep playing.

I like the way quick rain formatted his so I’ll share my opinions on what SEA/OCX in a similar format. Listing within tiers is in no particular order.
Top Tier
Ghastly Knights [GK] Fort Aspenwood
As a GK member I admit to some bias, but GK has a very strong record in zerg busting and GvG as far back as 2015. GK was arguably one the best boonshare guilds back in 2015-2016 and distinguished themselves more through zergbusting than GvG (although they steamrolled every other sea guild not in the top tier). The SoI nerf was especially detrimental to our play style, but in the past month GK is now stronger than ever before having found our desired composition.
Interesting notes
- Easily best sustain in SEA/OCX
- Substantially better at 20s than 15s
MGR/ND Maguuma ?
GK had a pretty big rivalry with MGR during the boonshare meta. Can’t say too much about MGR beside being the most GvG oriented out of the top tier guilds; they never dodge a GvG and wtfstomp any sea guild that isn’t top tier.
Interesting notes
- Has one of the hardest hitting bombs in the scene
AHMA, Blackgate?
I don’t know too much about this guild other than the fact they have the best GvG record out of the top tier guilds. That said they are at least very effective in zerg busting.
interesting notes
- Very high average skill level
High tier
LATE, BB, FOO
- BB could arguably be top tier based on their most recent victory in MGR. Zergbusting performance seems to be a bit lower than other top tier guilds though.
Low Tier
Everyone else. There is a pretty significant skill drop. Really significant.
Our list was formed through a voting system. So it wasn’t a single player’s personal opinion. It was around 35+ guild members voting. There are obviously 1/2 troll votes in there that made the rankings. But we will let the reader figure that out.
Map queue, omniblobbing, ajam, driver sniping, siege humping, siege creeping, small team roaming that encountered during off raid, (basically any dirty aspect that we hate in wvw) were allowed to be factors.
basing a guild on their tier was a joke in 2017. Bless Anet for linkings to shatter the misconception of top tier skill.
after last week with YB, I believe there will be some votes for [FoW] in the future. That is a very very effective defensive and ninja guild.

Uhhhh sounds to me like FoW just ppt’s so they shouldnt be considered. Also havent seen them form up to fight at all really from personal experience.
The list of best WvW guilds became useless the day they opened server transfers…like 4 years ago.
Te Nosce [TC]
Siege humping is an art form of wvw to itself.
Have you seen them glide in formation from one mortar to another? majestic.
Also the list is only 10, but there were about ~30 guilds to choose from a pool, and everyone was allowed to add to the pool. But each member was only allowed 2 votes and couldn’t vote for same one twice.

Hey, I’m the leader of BoRP. I think you have a very unclear view of what kind of guild we are, what we’ve done, and who we are. In our roster we have about six people out of 28 that anybody would consider ‘old GvG veterans.’ Almost all of us are competitively-minded players from different parts of the game that came together with a positive attitude and a willingness to improve. We’ve trained from scratch about 90% of our current roster and continue to accept players from every part of the game that have a decent mechanical level and a good attitude. One of the best players in our guild came from TORK.
A competitive game mode needs people at a high level and people at a mid level. A lot of people have this misconception that every top guild needs to disband for there to be a viable scene; but the truth is that if that happens then there’s nobody to drive progression. The GvGs and open field fights BoRP had against KEK throughout HoT pushed both guild’s members as both players and theory crafters, leading to a much more refined meta in NA.
I’ve gotten pretty tired of uninformed people saying this repeatedly and have felt like it invalidates all the hard work my guild members have put in for the last year, so I apologize if my post comes off as aggressive.

Hey! Aren’t you Veridian the guy who lead Woe?
If so, I can quite easily vouch for this just from the Woe days. Everyone was always super willing to work and help each other back on Ehmry bay when I was playing with you guys.
I’m sure that hasn’t changed at all, honestly. You can’t expect to pull in veteran players if you don’t build an environment that is attractive to veteran players first.

I think he meant that he feels most top guilds didn’t start from complete fresh players but rather experienced players from retired guilds, moving to a same new guild and bringing those knowledge to only that new guild. Therefore the number of competitive guilds are limited due to limited spread of knowledge.

First of all, he said a very small portion of his guild are “old GvG vets”.
Second of all. Spread of knowledge? A lot of the knowledge is right out there to grab if you’re willing to go out there and grab it.
Or, if you don’t feel like you can quite grasp it on your own, I can’t say [RD] – Redemption is as good as [BoRP] by any means, but they’re on HoD and they run pretty similar to how I’m used to organized groups running. Minus some call outs for cool downs like wells, etc.
You’re pretty much in Dawn’s time zone from what I can tell, why don’t you see if you can run with them in their discord and pick up their skills and then expand from there?
That advice isn’t necessarily directed at you, it’s just in general if someone on HoD wants to learn how to run as an organized group.
Or, for that matter, if anyone wants to learn as an organized group.
Just run with other organized groups on your sever, take what you think they did right, and incorporate it. Expand on it.
And most importantly. Run practice drills. Both to warm up when you’re in WvW, and to just generally practice.
And don’t be afraid to accept GvGs from anyone. If you lose, you lose. If you win in a stomp, you win in a stomp. Either way, someone’s learning something.
about your feedback, that we don’t even read it.” ~ Crystal Suzuki
A majority of guilds these days aren’t willing to learn though. They generally want things handed to them. Nor will they even dare trying to GvG guilds that are way better than them. Over the past couple months I know KEK and BoRP have both tried and a lot of guilds just flat out would say no because they didn’t want to lose.

Read Veri’s post again my dude.
I did.
Veri do admit that his roster is not complete fresh players and of course, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t have any fresh players.
What Sniffy is trying to say that guilds that end up with a group of elite players, regardless how big or how small, just as long there is a group, it can help to guide all those future fresh players recruited, giving birth to a new top guild. Likewise, group of elite players tend to stay together thus the number of new top guild become limited due to limited spread of knowledge. It is not like complete fresh rosters can’t become new top guild, it just take way lot more efforts and time, they have to do more experiments due to lack of experiences elsewhere those with elite groups of players can afford to do less since they experimented it before and from experiences decided certain things won’t work.
The main point is Sniffy didn’t really demean and say anyone not putting any efforts, just the amount of efforts varies thus the number of top guild born is also limited due to the amount of efforts required also varies.

LOL. You didn’t know what tz we run then maybe you should do research? As for gvg? We did scrim with mgr, ahma, rf, late (is it late? i dont rmb, a guild once from ocx sos) etc. Well, obviously not the same tz as [RD]. You really need to do research instead of embarrassing yourself with your limited knowledge.

I’m not surprised, to be honest.
HoD is full of blow hards that complain endlessly about there being no good players, yet do nothing about it.
I’m sure we’re not the only server with this problem.
“I’ve supported this server for years”.
“Yeah but, what have you actually done over those years?”
It’s when you test them that they tuck tail and run. A smoke show, nothing more.

Veri knows what Cid is trying to say, he’s just letting him know he is misinformed. How is Cid saying stuff like oh they’re full of gvg vets that they stockpiled because they like steamrolling and thats why they are so strong when this is just straight up untrue not demeaning to the hard work those players put in to get to that level.

Veri, I have nothing against you, but you didn’t start from scratch. After certain guilds fell apart, I remember that you had a very specific list of players you wanted for your roster. People you knew from other guilds / groups … kind of your A team. I was there when you made BoRP. You guys put in a lot of work, and you’re a group that actually wants to help others, but it’s also a lot easier to build off of several veterans training a few new players at a time.
It’s like Donald Trump saying he only got a loan of a few million dollars my man.
I promise you if we switched spots and I drove Borp against the guild I used to drive, I’d win too. Or if we swapped a few good, key players the results would be the same. It boils down to a handful of players having a certain mentality anymore and those players gravitate towards certain guilds. While it’s much harder to grandfather newer players in when you don’t have the years of experience in a core. That’s it. No digs at anyone. It’s not like it matters. I quit this game 2 weeks ago just giving my 2c on a pointless forum post.

El Cid you are describing BoRP as this A team of the best players from all the best dead guilds that formed up to attract more A list players and train a few new ones. Its not like that, the original roster are friends of Veridian’s, not the best players in the game convinced to join his guild.
In terms of training it takes 1 player to do footage review, any guild is capable of it, and the resources to improve are out there. BoRP isn’t the first guild to do footage review, competitive guilds have done it since day 1. What BoRP did was accept players that have decent mechanics and review footage with people who want to improve. Any guild or group of people can do this.
literally not taking anything away from you. 5 of the original members were part of my guild at one point . I know they’re good players and have improved since. Just saying you didn’t start from scratch and you’ve been selective. I mean, case in point, look where you went…
no need to go further into it. just 2c from some guy that doesn’t really play anymore. Don’t get so bent out of shape, if you think I’m wrong then it’s fine.

Weird, why would this be moved to LFG? This is strictly pertaining to wvw. not to mention LFG is for guilds to post what they are looking for. This list provides no reference or recruitment for own guild. but to shed light on others that we’ve come across.
Desert Spectre [VII]-Crystal Desert
“You’re never out of the fight.”
There’s this perception that you’re perpetuating that implies old GvG players are somehow a catalyst for being good. The truth of the situation is that BoRP was very bad when we formed up and the only reason we beat people was because NA was in the worst state it’s ever been in competition-wise. Every player in our roster from ‘Old GvG guilds’ started off by playing this meta in a completely improper way. Then we raided 5 days a week for 3 hours a day and did footage review of every player in the guild relentlessly for additional hours on end. We tryharded for ten straight months.
The guild you’re referring to dying is [GS] Gun Squad but I took four people from Gun Squad who all also had to learn the meta mostly from scratch. BoRP was my A-team from the perspective of attitude and personality that I would enjoy playing with, on top of this I did a very large amount of research into the EU scene which was still competitive so we were immediately on proper builds. If everybody in a guild records and uploads, and the footage is reviewed properly (which we had to learn how to do) then you can improve any group of players by a very large amount.
The only thing I did with BoRP that isn’t accessible to everybody is have some really awesome friends from a lot of different places in the game who all had amazing attitudes.
Anyways I don’t really care what people think so I’m going to stop replying, but I’d really like people to stop perpetuating this belief that the game is ruled by ‘overstacked rosters of old gvg veterans’ because it simply isn’t close to true and it discourages newer groups of players from pushing themselves further, which is actually what this game mode needs to be more competitive.
Have a good day everybody, and thanks for the positive shoutouts from others in this thread.
Also why did this thread get moved? You should move it back, I think VII’s list is more pertaining to WvW than some other posts left on the WvW section.
BoRP kek PS rekz BnR GS TDS BGA AoEs were all fun groups to fight during HoT. I know most of the guilds I listed don’t play anymore but at one point during HoT they did so giving them a shout out. Those who are continuing good luck with expansion, hoping for some fun variety with comps.

Must be an Anet kitten that moved it, cuz we didn’t list their guilds on it. in our defense we were gonna list [BG]Beastgate as one guild for honorable mentions to appease the anet gods. perhaps next list then.
