I’m looking for an EU server which doesn’t have skilllag (maybe apart from battles in SM) but still has some decent guilds/commanders and coverage (weekends and evenings).

I’m on SFR atm and although we have good guilds/commanders and and a nice community i’m getting sick of the constant skilllag that is present in T1. Therefore i’m gonna try my luck on a server a few tiers down in the hope things will improve there.

I’m thinking about the following servers around tier 5:

- Piken Square : i’ve fought against them in past matchups and they played decent and fair (my current choice)
- Ruins of Surmia : i have some friends on this one but reading the thread about their current matchup has brought up some doubt whether they have a good enough coverage to not be constantly outmanned.
- Gunnars Hold : i dont know much about this server but they also seem to struggle with coverage.

Can anyone please give me some advice or anything ? Thanks in advance!

Gunnar’s Hold has very little coverage from about 2/3 am to about 2/3 pm, but quite a strong primetime (7pm to 2 am) and reset. Generally we are looking at our stuff getting capped while being at work and capping it back when we get home. Piken isnt exactly a lag free environment as they are quite high in the rankings and thus have a lot of people. Surmia is a server with very nice coverage but somewhat weak primetime/reset compared to their equal rated opponents. Looking at your playtime id say Gunnar’s Hold but im of course totally biased, being from GH myself

Why only EU inter servers ?
why not french, german or spanish servers too ?

i’m on AR, and we have some english guilds, and it’s working quite fine

I would recommend you any T3-T4 server : not so much skill lag, and good coverage.

One of choices is actually your old enemy: Desolation.

We have no big skill lag, except those Stonemist Castle battles and reset evenings. There is usually no queue, except to EB on the afternoons and primetime. Deso BL can have a short queue in the evening.

We are intentionally dropping down a bit more, meaning we don’t play at all full force all the time and we don’t defend that much at the moment. But Desolation is not that weak as some falsely think from the score.

As an SFR player you should know our weaknesses. I think we are one of the best fighting outmanned. E.g. this morning I was commanding 3 hours at Deso BL. Elone Reach couple of times brought in their zerg which was at least twice larger than our group. We still managed to take Garrison + Bay + 3 towers couple of times in a row. We won every smaller fight and simply avoided the suicidal ones. I didn’t die a single time and our group wasn’t wiped either as I can anticipate enemy actions pretty well. We let enemy take the keep if they have 2-3x more people in one zerg than our total amount of players on the map. WXP farming. About 1 WXP rank per hour WXP train. And at prime time we can put on a good fight.

Although I am obviously slightly biased towards Gunnar’s being from there, I still say it is a great choice. I only remember gettting skill lag during those massive SM fights on reset, apart from that there is virtually none. We also have quite a few good guilds, and an extremely strong primetime.

Of course we do lack a bit it off-peak coverage, I would know as (being Australian) I usually end up being one of the 10 people defending everything we have during those times :P But we still do end up doing well in all of our match-ups, and if you just want to have fun in WvW then primetime is fantastic.

I should also mention that there is usually never queues for any of the maps unless it is reset or occasionally on the weekends. Advantages of being a low tier server

I would say not to go to Piken Square ive heard there are queues on every border? or is this just rumours?

As for GH they have excellent prime time coverage, but lack in off peak hours unfortunatly.

RoS – You should know most of the guilds on this server, FIRE, RiOT, VcY all from SFR. I dont think were ever outmanned tbh, we have enough to fill one bl and EB with a fairly sized guild on the enemies border.

GH and RoS never have lag apart from in SM, so take your pick! Good luck with your search.

Although i am biased towards coming to RoS because i am there ^^ but still the choice is yours

Based on the comments here i went for Gunnar’s Hold and so far i’m liking the server. There is indeed no skilllag and i cant complain about the coverage during the times i play myself. I’m actually enjoying wvw now that i can USE my skills again.

That’s great to hear

This week seems to be an anomaly in terms of our performance off peak but if you play at primetime we do very well in all matchups really.
