Don’t support the Gem Shop, it’s that easy.
1g = 18gems

If the exchange is at this point, that means the ratio is still reasonable to others.
They are still cheap, if you farm it is easy to get about 500 gems/day or more.
I think that their price will drop to 20gems/gold after this event, but in the next months it will rise slowly until 4 gems/gold. Then I don´t know what will happen.
The gold to gem ratio will rise or fall depending on gem store sales and the current inflation of gold in the game. The easier gold is to acquire, the more gold it takes to convert into the same number of gems.
Intel 520 120GB + 240GB / 2 x WD Caviar Black 1TB (RAID 0) / Corsair AX1200 / ASUS VG278H
Windows 8.1 Pro x64 / ASUS Xonar Essence STX / Sennheiser HD 650 / Logitech Z-5500

Wrong. As long as more Gems are bought at the exchange than sold to it, the rate will rise. The only thing an increase in the money supply does is to have more gold available that could be spent buying Gems. However if there isn’t anything a lot of players want with Gems then the exchange rate stays about the same regardless how much more gold is in the active economy.
This big jump in the rates is solely driven by the 10 day say of items that were available for a limited time such has the infinite harvesting tools or F&F weapon skins. Players are pouring every copper into Gems to reduce the amount of real money they would need to spend to acquire enough Gems for all the limited time items they want. But by doing so they are simply driving the exchange rate even higher.

Still waiting for the day when I can get 100 gold with 10 EUR. No more farming gold for me after that.
^ That’s unlikely to be for a very, very long time. If ever. Personally, my break point will be when it gets to 5g for 100 gems, which is when I’ll start considering buying gems to sell for gold.
And if it ever gets to 10g for 100 gems, that will be the day that I get my Emperor title. XD
5g for 100 Gems will be available when the Gold to Gem rate is 100 Gems for 6.92g. About 30-35% higher than now. Should be there by Xmas if not Thanksgiving.

Well at least I hope this will be temporary and anet do not intend to balance the store at 5g/100gem to increase the real money/gem transactions.
anet does not balance anything about the gem/gold or gold/gems price as its done by supply and demand
Ayano Yagami lvl 80 ele
I’ve been saying all allong that it should 5g per 100….
Glad to see it finally happened. Maybe now people will finally get real about inflation and stop cherry picking T5’s that are prone to gluts as counter-examples…

There’s 1 little monkey wrench in your theory here once everyone starts converting their Gear to Ascendeds …but wants to keep their current skins.

Current price is still too low. Maybe 5gp/100gems is more like it.
Those who think 1gp/50gems was reasonable obviously don’t buy gems for real money. They have absolutely no idea what the €€ price on these things is.

They’re making a pretty penny with folks having to shell out with their wallets. They wouldn’t dare change it. But then again, there’s "no way’ they have control over it.

Considering it’s probably their main source of income, I’d say it’s working as intended. If they want to run the game and keep pushing out new content they need people who spend real money on gems. Otherwise the game will be dead in less than a year.
