I can’t watch the video at work because our company blocks YouTube, but based on this response the only thing I see happening is this thread getting a LOT of views….and ending up with a lot of disappointed people.

Well, being a lover of strategy games and boardgames gives me a bit of insight into strategic misdirection.

It’s entirely possible that he’s doing it for 1 of 2 reasons (or just being nice).

1) His tips aren’t “flavor of the day” kind of tips. So they will work regardless of the state of the market.
2) He is a very good user of the market and knows that by posting these tips, it will cause a trend in another related market which he can cash in on in response. A good example…

When Princess Wand skin prices skyrocketed (because a lot of people hyped them), the price of socks did not change (they even went down a little). So you could buy 150 socks for something like 15 silver, go to the gift guy and turn those into a wand, and then sell the wand for 22 silver.

I would just comment on the video, but I am also at work and also can’t watch it. Which leads to a suggestion with these kind of videos. Perhaps if it’s a “top 5” kind of video, put a little description underneath the video. Even if it’s one word. Gives us an idea of what your video will be about too. Example…

Thank you for the tip Gold making videos always get a lot of “this will never work” even though i have made literally hundreds of gold with the methods i use lol. It’s nice to see some CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.

I Do these videos because i hope to help newer players, i am a long time MMO player and as a new player i had NO money never knew how to keep it and was always wondering what everyone else did, i hope to help these players put a little money in their pocket which helps the overall market as they have a little extra money to spend!

The video basically says to do dailies, get map completion in the level 80 zones for the exotics you get (then sell them on the TP), run fractals for the rare’s you get then salvage them for the ecto that you sell on the TP, and farm mats to make exotic weapons that you then sell on the TP.

If i sold each mat separately i would have made 3g 36s not to mention the MULTIPLE listing fees involved in selling all of those and i made ( the money from the item still needs to be picked up) 3g 94s from making it into a conch.

Just for fun, calculate how much you saved on fees by selling a single item instead of multiple items of equal value.

As I’ve said before, multiplication is distributive over addition. If you’re selling a single item worth 3g you pay the same tax as if you sold three items at 1g.

yes, he put a comment on the video about the listing fee losing you money over selling it in pieces, :P i was just trying to show that it was NOT more but i didn’t know it was even ty for the info!

Nah bl lots on rares is ok. I will rather sell the exotics because it is at least guaranteed 4 ectos per sell.
That is of course there is a valuable rune.

Two way to make money I know of is flipping Platinum into Dark-steel and selling them midway between the two prices or putting them at the lowest seller.

Yet there is the cost of primordium and the cheap price of platinum (last quote was 11 copper a piece).

The other thing was mythril going way up.

oh so you’re gonna make a wild assumption with only partial information on a subject? wowzers you must be a wizard!

Sound tips, but based on the materials that you used to make the Exotic Focus I’m sure you could of made a larger profit even after taxes selling the ingredients by roughly a gold. The salvaging kit tip was pretty useful for newbies especially how you mentioned that you usually use Mystic Salvage kits, because I don’t see how it would be profitable to salvage a rare under normal circumstances with a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

1.) Also on Salvage kits Black Lion Salvage kits are great for salvaging Exotics from the TP to sell the runes/sigils for a profit.

Some things I’ve easily made gold from have been buying coal, and iron at the highest buying price (if within profit) and then making steel ingots, and selling them on the TP. Making 2,500 steel ingots in about 5-6 minutes was a pretty easy way to make 2g after taxes. It does take a lot of waiting though on getting the materials from the TP, but if you’re about to go to bed making roughly 2g while drinking a cup of coffee is pretty awesome. The same strategy I’ve used for mithril ore into ingots, and platinum into darksteel.

400 Chefs may want to consider the ingredients to make Rare quality Unidentified Gray dyes since so many of those sell pretty well for money. Examples include Abyss, Black, White, and Celestial.

Also I can understand the reasoning for doing Fractals since it gives obsidian shards (so that you don’t need as much karma to make legendaries) but doing daily Explore runs with experienced groups for AC (all paths) and CoF (P1, and P2) you can do all 5 paths total in an hour and half for 2.5g (with Omnomberry bars) from just killing the last bosses alone + the dungeon completion bonus, and then can use the tokens for say Greatswords, and if they’re all Great Swords then you’ll get a random 80 Exotic Greatsword…(Say hello to the chance of a Precursor np for about 5-6 days worth of dungeons)

I know that the materials wouldn’t have made more ( honestly i check the profit is averaged around 50ish silver over the material prices….go check here http://www.gw2spidy.com/ ) and i have not farmed AC much!!! I will get on this and maybe make another video if it turns out to be more profitable!

I can read faster than you can speak though. I would read 2 pages about it rather than watching a 10 minute video. That’s just me though.

Honestly these are pretty weak tips and involve a lot of luck.

Salvaging isn’t really good advice. He salvages 4 rare tridents that sell for about 27/28 silver each with a black lion salvage kit that he got from a daily which is the first flaw. You have to take into consideration the price of the kit and you can’t assume that everyone will get a black lion salvage kit for free. Buying gems to buy kits is clearly unreasonable as well since you’d be losing money.

You also can’t just go by such a tiny sample size and say “this will make money” as when he only salvaged 4 weapons. The average rate for salvaging rares is around 0.8 ectos per rare. That means out of 4 rares he’d get 3.6 ectos (I know you can’t get 0.6 of an ecto, I’m going with the average)

So, you have 4 rares you could sell for 28 silver each, that would make you 1 gold 12 silver (before trading post fees)

Salvaging them yields 3.6 ectos. You sell them at 28 silver each to get a whopping 1 gold 8 silver. Well you also have to consider the cost of the kit, again not everyone has a free black lion salvage kit. Mystic kits are starting to get pretty expensive, with the current gold price 250 gems will cost you over 4 gold (250 for 5 is the smallest amount you can buy) along with another 25 silver or so for the kits. Master kits cost 15 silver each so it’s better to buy those than use mystic kits. 15 silver for 25 uses which comes out to 0.6 silver per salvage. So to salvage those 4 rares would cost 2.4 silver as well.
