That the prices for some of the consumables are just way out of line. I see that the cost of a single recovery package costs 300 gems or the equivalent three dollars. This seems unusually high as do the prices for black lion keys (which guarantee nothing and usually deliver on that promise) and a few other items.

Most of the other black lion offerings are fairly priced and I would like to see these items looked at for value/price considerations.

And for those who are going to say “don’t buy them if you think their too high” I didn’t but I am looking out for the company that is still making this game fun for me.

They would sell more things if they lowered their prices and as none of it has any physical value they would have absolutely nothing invested in the process.

@OP, yeah, I think some of the items could use an adjustment to match current economy.

Sorry. I didn’t know that “optional” had different meanings to different people. I’ll keep that in mind next time I see a complaint thread about prices.

I know several people that can teach you better reading skills, just pm me if you’d like.

To help you understand your folly, I’ll quote the OP:
“And for those who are going to say “don’t buy them if you think their too high” I didn’t but I am looking out for the company that is still making this game fun for me."

You then replied to him with his own quote with something he specifically asked you not to do. Then you take it even further by making it a topic about them being optional. That’s pretty much a given here and thus off topic. I’m surprised you didn’t bring up “entitlement” to add further insult.

As I said, reading comp goes a long way.

Also, the guy is trying to make a suggestion on how to Anet could better thier sales. Nothing wrong with that. I guess it’s a half full, half empty issue were you see complaining instead of suggesting.

I’m not really sure what the recovery pack for 300 gems is … but food for thought:

BL keys are sold for 125 or 5 for 450.

One (single) booster is somewhere from 75-150.

The chest can pretty much contain everything, so even if you don’t get the ultra-special item, or the booster you “wanted” you likely on average still get a perceived “good deal”.

If you change those prices you kinda want to change the keys too. Now all over sudden the “jump” to an 500-800 gem outfit may seem steep …

All in all I tend to think in $10-20 per month and all these extra single use items I get kinda end up only clogging my bank space.

I doubt it would make people spend more real money if they lowered those prices.

“Whose Kitten is this?” – “It’s a Charr baby.”
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

I’ve talked about this a lot in the past. While it’s human nature to want much for little, MMOs will always have the vocal minority that wants cheaper or free stuff. These players feel “entitled” to it on the assumption that they paid for the game, so they’re owed something. That’s when they complain or question why something is priced differently from what they personally feel it’s worth.

The Gem Store prices currently are not set in stone. There have been numerous sales that give nice discounts on a variety of items, including Black Lion Keys. But do remember that everything in the Gem Store is completely optional. And when a player does want these optional items, you have multiple ways of purchasing them: Gold to Gems exchange, or out right Gem purchase.

Recovery Pack is a new bundle. It’s just an Instant Repair Canister plust Revive Orb. Main contributor to the price is the orb. Buying the bundle instead of separately saves you 20 gems.

I am surprised they went with this bundle. The canister can be convenient to have but the revive orb is closer to useless. The orb takes as long as a player and once yo u are revived you are basically a sitting duck with 1HP. Using a WP is cheaper and probably faster as well in most cases. The only times I’ve actually used these was “meh I have these things taking up inventory space, might as well use it”.

Who is actually dying so often they would want one of these bundles? O_o
The bundling is also wrong. There is no need to use the canister more than once every 9(number of deaths required to break something if you start fully repaired) deaths so it should contain 1 canister and 9 orbs instead of 1 of each.

Revive Orbs let you get to the Asura Jail, but… why do we have to pay so much to get INTO jail?

It’s a simple case of “bundling”.

Individual prices:

Repair Canister – 70each, 5 for 300 (50 savings vs 350, or 60 per unit)
Revive Orb – 250 each, 5 for 900 (350 savings vs 1250, or 180 per unit)

Recovery Package – 300, 5 for 1200 (300 savings vs 1500, or 240 per unit)

The Recovery Package offers a savings of 20 per “unit”. No benefit for 5 of each.

Nothing nefarious going on here. The incentive is simply to offer you a better deal for a larger single purchase. And in doing so, reduce the cost per unit (kind of what you’re asking for).

Edit: I get you’re essentially asking for prices for the individual units to be lowered, but that gets into a discussion of opportunity cost and other concepts. Needless to say, there’s no doubt been a lot of consideration given to pricing, and while your opinion may be that they’d “make it up in volume”, it’s hard to substantiate on hypothesis alone.

I also should have read the whole thread, Khisanth offers a good practical analysis of the bundle.
