Q:

OK, now THIS is not fair, Anet.

Upgrading blueprints takes (when you boil it down) two types of currency: Gold and Skill Points.

I calculated profit on the 6 types.

I also calculated gold return per skill point.

These yield utterly different results… the highest profit (normal definition) blueprint is the LOWEST on a gold/skill point valuation.

Which is the optimum to calculate? Normally, we’d say profit; but given skill points determine # of times you can build blueprints, wouldn’t it be more profitable in the long run to calculate gold/skill point?

This is now about more than a few silver point difference between one blueprint and another – it just became about OCD.

A:

Gahh – user error in Open Office Calc formula, so the difference in gold on a per skill point basis is negligible.

In response to the snark above – because 1) I have no more skills to buy 2) I’d not gone down the path of upgrading blueprints before, so it was something new to try 3) I haven’t seen anything more useful to buy/do with the skill points.

It’s still interesting for other situations where two types of currency are involved and you want to see which is the best use of each.

If you want to convert your skillpoints ot gold, there is always gold as a secondary currency involved (sometimes even a third like karma, tokens or asc mats), as there is no item that you can obtain with skillpoints only that is tradeable.

Try promoting t1 ingots or planks.

Prices for superior blueprints are established by the player base, not Anet.

And I dont know why anybody would use their skillpoints to promote blueprints as their ROI is abysmal.

I was looking at that and the ascended back items (by way of crystals) prior to discovering the upgrading of siege… the former is too much of a hassle for the ADHD half of me, the latter is still attractive, since they’re relatively easy to obtain; but I have like 900 expendable skill points spread out all over the place, SO I explored the math.

I also rescind the “snark” comment above – it was the delivery. Will edit it out.

I would keep the points in reserve for now, they’ve said they plan to introduce more “horizontal progression” aspects like new skills in the near future, and there’s a mysterious “features update” coming in a couple of months. You might need those skill points soon, or end up grinding for more to obtain expensive new elites or something.

I never saw miyself in need of more than 200-300 skillpoints at the same time and they are earned on a daily basis. I dont see a point in keeping more than 200 at hand.

It depends if you have one toon you play, or several. If you have five toons and want to get two 100-point skills on each toon, you need a lot more than 200 skill points.
