doesn’t mean you’re the best player in the group
it means the enemies considered you a low priority.”
Let’s face it, The Cultural items are(for the most part) vanity items, because a item of the same lvl has better stats, but the price charged for the cultural ones are way up for just be for skins. Theres no sense to pay absurd amounts of gold(100g for T3 set…), for a skin, that still, needs a transmuter that you need to spend gems to get it(or being extremely lucky to get one of the black lion chest), making the cost be too high only for the skin
If what people are saying is true, that some guys were using the T3 items to farm for mats, then change their rarity, there’s no need for them being rare, since they are easily outclassed by drop/craft anyway.
This.
It’s so stupid that it costs silly amounts. 100g? Why? That’s CRAZY. Seeing as how hard it is to come by a whole gold…
Make it like… 20 gold for the t3 set. Make it white or even green. Nobody uses rares at level 80.
In my opinion, Cultural armours should be bought with karma.
There is not enough level 80 stuff to be bought with karma.
In the original Guild Wars, there were several armors that would only be worn by players with tons of in-game gold to spend or enough time & the proper build to farm the high-level areas for materials. These armors provided absolutely zero combat benefit over the ones you could craft for cheap in the main cities. The fact that these GW2 cultural armors only cost gold removes the rare-material-farming restriction to showing off how much money you have in game (or possibly how much real world cash you spent in the gem store to convert to gold). Just because you can’t afford it doesn’t make it absurd. There’s a reason we all don’t drive Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s in real life when we can drive a dirt cheap Honda. Just wait until they release some super-hard dungeon modes in the future with extremely rare crafting materials resembling pink snot globs that will end up costing about 10x what you spent on your tier 3 cultural armor.

Funny thing is, in the last Stress test and on the Head start, the whole T3 set costed LESS than 10g(not only the T3, but the Orders set was about 1g the whole thing). Then a update came, after the first wave of bans for people farming items using a exploit in the game and they placed the items at those absurd prices. So I don’t see your point, when the items had a much lower value in the first place and got this overprice without any (given) reason.

You make a completely valid point. There’s no point spending that much money on armor that’s just going to be used as a skin.
I agree. I have purchased some of the cloth Sylvari Cultural armor because it is so cool looking! I think Tier 1 is fairly priced, but Tier 2 and Tier 3 are way overpriced for what is essentially a skin (the stats aren’t class specific and just not that great).
Another potential problem I see is that if you use Transmutation stones to ‘skin’ your lvl 80 armor with the cultural armor, if you ever want to change the look of your armor again, you will effectively be destroying your purchase by ‘overwriting’ the cultural armor appearance with a new style. Furthermore, if you ever want to use that cultural armor look in the future, you would have to buy the cultural armor AGAIN for transmutation! Either this or you would have to craft an entire set of the highest level armor for each different style you want to wear.
If you are going to to have the nerve to charge me multiple times for the same set of armor (which I think is completely wrong) it shouldn’t be so expensive!

I agree, the price is to high for just a skin. If they want to make it worth 100g buff the stats otherwise drop the price down or switch it to karma.
I don’t understand why people keep saying “it’s just for the skin”, because the skin is pretty all what it is. Guild Wars 2 end game is not about stat, since you can get the best stat within probably 3 days to at most a week after you ding 80. It has never been about stats, it has all about skin. So yeah … the word “just” in “just a skin” make absolutely no sense in this contest. It’s like making the complain "why is this car so exepensive, it’s “just” a Ferrari".
Stat is cheap, skin is expensive, that’s what this game is.

And here lies my case, The skin is too expensive just to be a skin!! You just forget that if you are aiming for the T3 armor, you will spend 119 gold for the skin, but you will need to change it to another item, wich will make you use the lvl 80 only transmutation stone, wich, can only be bought with gems(or you can be lucky and get it on a chest) wich will cost more money if you take the route gold:>gems so it will not be ONLY 119g, it will be more. And that’s not even counting on the weapon, wich costs 66k karma points(wich btw, is the same amount of the EXOTICS that you can get in Orr)
That’s not expensive, it’s over charge….

I noted that you added the follow

You are wrong here, a Ferrari is Like a exotic item, while a BMW is a rare, now imagine you are buing a BMW for the price of the Ferrari. This is the point here.

I already got the helm+chest and 3 pieces of peacemaker and the games been out less then a month, so no the prices aren’t to high.

No, the point isn’t it’s an exotic or a rare, at lvl80 it’s a no brainer and like I said, it’s extremely easy to get a lvl80 exotic that it’s mostly irrelevant.
No, I don’t shoot for T3 culture armor. I’m shooting for the full CM suit for my second character, a War. Right now a good run last for 1.5 hours while an average run tend to last about 2.5 hours. So an average 2 hour for 20 tokens. The whole set costs around 1100 token so … 110 hours? Maybe shaving off 20-30 hours for the daily that give 30 tokens and the assumtpion that the run become faster as people get more experience. Still, that gonna be a lot of hour needed for the look I want, do you see me complaining it excessive? No, because I already settle and understand that it will be a month long goal for me, that it will be something I plan to “achieve”. The time when I deck out that armor will be a shown of my accomplishement, just like a full T3 set is supposed to how rich you are. And no, it doesn’t attain to the “I want this and I want to have it in a week”, sorry it’s not supposed to work that way.
In fact, how is 119g is bad. I’m sitting at 20g right now and that is after a lot of unsavy spending on my first toon and a bizzare spending to deck out my elementalist in Exotic. I never played the market, I don’t farm, I don’t do anything special. So excuse me, your T3 culture set in my opinion, require a lots LESS afford than what I’m shooting for. Oh btw, adding insult to injury, the CM’s set is actually LvL70, not 80. But like I said it’s “ALL” about the skin. I already have the stat I want, it doesn’t matter if the skin is a lvl80 exotic or a lvl1 white.

So what? You are farming for the skin of lvl 70 EXOTIC gear using tokens and you are comparing it with a rare iten with WORSE stats than it? Ferrari vs BMW again?
So if you had the 119g+gold needed to buy the transmutation stones, would you blow it all up on a skin? Would you risk using all you have, and not be able to use waypoints(to do events to farm money/karma on Orr’s maps), would blow up the money for repairs of those occasional deaths on exploration modes? And if you made another build and got another set to do a specific build(like one set for dungeons and another for WvW) but want to keep both sets, whould you blow all 119g again?

/Facepalm.
No, scratch that, make it /facepencil.
I already have the stat I want, it doesn’t matter if the skin is a lvl80 exotic or a lvl1 white.
Did you read what I wrote, and if you did, do you understand? I do not care if the dungeon is a lvl70 rare, a lvl80 exotic, or a lvl1 white. I already have a lvl80 set for the stat, I’m after the skin, the skin, the skkkiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!! That is what those 110 hours will be invested for. The only thing matter to a skin is “do you like that skin”, not the source of where it’s coming from. My lvl80 elementalist is in full exotic gears, but “luckily”, the skin I like her to wear comes from the regular drops (the feather, shaman set) and only the shoulderpad is needed from a dungeon. I like the look of the CM set for my war, and there is absolutely nothing I can complain about that choice.
You can get a full set of exotic on TP on the stat of your choice for 15-20g, so again, your amandent about the stats and rare/exotic is absolute and completely irrelevant. Your 119g or my 1100 token will be for the skin, period.
So if you had the 119g+gold needed to buy the transmutation stones, would you blow it all up on a skin? So let me ask you, after 110hours farming for the dungeon and amass 1100 token, I also want a PvE and PvP set, or maybe a tank and a DPS set, what would make my decision at that point any less relevant then yours? You ask me “would you blow all 119g again”. Then I can ask you, “would you spend another 110 hours again?” You answer me that and I’ll give you my answer.
Tell you what, I wish there is an option for me to buy the CM set with 119g. Because I can guarantee you that if I use that 110 hour to make gold, I’ll amass enough to buy it 5 times over.

That’s the whole point…it’s suppose to be an end game objective where you spend ridiculous amount of time to obtain it, much like legendary item. It is unique for someone who manage to get it because not many people can afford it…same reason why someone would want to buy a luxury car/watch…it’s for show. If everyone can afford it, then it’s no longer unique/special.

So people with no lives or too much time on their hands can get it is what you’re telling me. I can’t tell you how much of a pain it was to amass 10 gold during the WEEK with all the things I have to do in my real life, not to mention I had to use some of it for things like crafting. The armor is not really that special it’s just for looks, why spend an arm and a leg for cosmetics, it doesn’t makes sense. The only people who aready have it are either farming their lives away, buying gold from the gem to gold or from gold farmers and that’s that.
Think of it another way…it is to reward players who can figure out a way to earn gold more effectively than 99% of the players, or a player willing to spend time to get it, or both. I won’t judge how much time a person spends on a computer…those not playing computer games could easily judge you who maybe play 10 hours a week as wasting time on something useless as well. If the player can derive some value out of it, then so be it weather its 10 hours or 100 hours per week. More often than not, it is jealousy talking when you call another player who have something that you don’t of having no life or no achievement in real life.

If only I receive a dollar for whenever I heard someone bring up the “real life” chore, I might be rich enough I don’t have to work -_-
Sir/Madame, as someone who work 2 jobs and going to grad school, your “reason” has no sympathy from me. After all like I said above, it’s a goal that I set out to achieve in a month or two, unlike you, who seem to be wanting it in 10 days.
@Arciel
Hehe…I’m slightly better than you…work 1 job and doing masters, and a gf staying with me. Yeah, it’s a long term goal…but people just want to get it in an instant and is jealous of others who got it. Maybe it’s what drives the hardcore to actually get those kind of thing in 2 week…just to make the average player jealous.
Guild Wars 2 has worked very hard to make everything accessible/doable to both the hardcore and the casual gaming player. Obtaining cool armor should be no different.
At my current play rate it would take me probably 200 days to obtain 100 gold. And that is if I play every single day. I would say maybe even 50 gold is reasonable…that would still take me a ridiculous amount of time to obtain. But at least it would seem possible.
I just want to wear some cool armor…is that a crime?
All of the naysayers seem to think we need to ‘suffer enough’ to get something cool. I think this is an old way of thinking. Guild Wars 2 is a game that respects my time, and this should be no different for obtaining cool armor.
The only thing making the armor “cool” is that it is rare. There are a ton of great (imo better) looking pieces that only cost copper to silver. High prices gives the person that puts in more time a way to show off their time investment. Welcome to the age of entitlement?
I would prefer it was something like 2-3 million karma though. 100 gold will not be much for even causal players in 4-6 months
I agree that the cultural armor is too expensive at the highest tier.

It isn’t different.
You can obtain the gold by purchasing gems and selling the gems for gold.
This may be an expensive way of getting the armour set but it’ll take very little time. Anyone can get the cultural tier 3 armour in less than five minutes.
I just want to wear some cool armor…is that a crime?
Not at all. There’s plenty of cool armour in the game. The cultural tier 3 is not the only set. You can buy all sorts of neat stuff from karma vendors in the various zones.
You can also get dungeon sets (although they’d take longer than the cultural tier 3 set) and you can also just buy the items using gems.
cultural items are vanity items, they are likely to cost alot.
these items will act as a gold sink so you wont have alot of players walking around with load of gold.
having players walk around with alot of gold will make the trading post items go sky rocket making it near impossible for a starting player to join in.
I really dont mind 100+g for the armor set. But im more worried about Arenanet lowering the price on it 1week or days after i buy it for 100G, that is what worries me about buying it for 100g. Cause then it really would been waste of money.
