Quartz Crystals spike
Possibly due to speculation that Ascended armor will be in next month’s update?
I was going to say that people ran out of their supply, and we’re running on home instance fumes at first. I just noticed that a large amount were bought up recently though :P
I’ve just been turning mine into the charged ones randomly for no good reason, bah.

Hmm, the thought never crossed my mind. Do you think they’ll be needed for Ascended armor? I haven’t paid much attention to what will be required.
They might have intended to use Charged Quartz as a cheap way to discover Exotic armor pieces to build XP for post-400 armor crafting, and got in early.
Price is up because the supply went from 225K to 19K in a week. Price really started moving once it got close to the demand line and now it’s supply is 1/5th of demand.
RIP City of Heroes
Yeah, but WHY has the supply crashed so dramatically in just one week? That’s what we’re puzzling over.
Speculation ppl. 10k gold owning people, trolling the market basically. Weither they succeed to make gold or not, it’s their way of playin this game.
Just like ancient wood log is finally dropping again, this will drop too.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
Going to have to agree on speculation.
I’m rather heavily stocked myself, and have a few other things going, but people are piggybacking on a trend.
But even before this consumption has been surprisingly heavy and a lot of the vendor phase purchases have been dumped. Meaning equilibrium could well be above the current price.
Profitability will depend on the patience and number of speculators. I’m just happy with the 1000% return once I cash out my banks. Might finally splurge on the 2nd 100 slots for my guilds.

Thing is, celestial exotics aren’t discovered, they are learned from recipes so way less crafting xp there and they are accountbound on creation so no way to recoup some gold from crafting by selling on the TP.
They are alot more expensive than other items you can craft to get to 500.

Assuming the standard formula, and what was used for ascended weapons, you’ll need 5 charged quartz per piece. Making a celestial ascended inscription requires an exotic celestial inscription.

Very true was fine for exotics weapon for me since i put them in the mystic forge, even got a spark, but for armor it will be a big loss of mats and money.
I did not try to accumulate a lot of quartz back in the day and naturally my personal supply had dried up a while ago – maybe on a larger scale most people have run out by now as well. Instead of being able to craft 7 charged quartz a week you are now down to an average of maybe 2.

“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
Bummer… I cleaned out my stacks to make bank space available about 3 weeks ago.

Dunno that it’s individuals gaming the market, supply was up there a bit — where does one put 200000 quartz crystal anyhow? Their bank which is already being used heavily for all their other trading needs that require ample storage?
More likely we’ve a healthy number of lemming traders: one sees a price go up, so they all buy some. Or, most likely, the precursor bits in the dat file have prompted many players to stockpile all the quartz they need for their ascended armor.

— this too, shall pass.
People are probably getting ready for ascended armor, precursors, and whatever else. I mean look at gossamer cloth. It has risen 10x it’s original price and stayed there for a month now even though there has been 0 change in demand. Speculation has a powerful and lasting effect on the market.

That’s right because there are so many players out there with 10K of gold that they decided to screw the rest of us over with their shenanigans. It’s those “evil” tp traders up to their no good again.
The question is why on the 7th suddenly Quartz became attractive, we has 250,000 supply at that point. Is there a recipe we don’t know about? Is their a rumor about needing charged quartz for winterday so get quartz now and start converting one a day so when the recipe drops you will be ready? Or is it just newbie TP traders being lemmings?
Supply seemed to have stabilized at 18K now. Even with the decrease, prices haven’t risen by that much relative to the size of the supply drop.
RIP City of Heroes
so glad I made 40 charged quartz crystals back in july.
honestly, I considered investing in quartz back when they were 40c and decided not to. I reasoned that people had personal nodes, and as long as less than 1/8 of the players wanted celestial equipment, there would be enough supply (3 crystals per harvest, 3 × 8 = 24, 25 quartz = 1 charged quartz). I guess they just have to be worth enough to encourage people to harvest them.

i don’t pay enough attention to market trends pre and post patch, but i bet one of the main reasons for these occurrences are related to players privy to test server info. i’m sure anet tries to avoid this as much as possible by continuously adding in new mats and currency, but they can’t fully exclude using current items on live at times so it becomes an easy situation to take advantage of. could be wrong about this, but if someone has market data history, i’m sure you can find some correlations between large quantity material purchases and the ensuing needed materials to craft x item after patches drop.
thinking about it all, the game economy is the only reason why public testing is not done.

I honestly wish they’d look at blatant patch speculation manipulations like this and switch recipe ingredients on patch day.
Best gold sink ever.

Worst idea ever.
And as Quartz has nothing to do with this update i doubt that any patch speculation manipulation was involved.
Maybe Anet just perma banned some accounts for other infractions and those accounts just happened to have listed the majority of the quartz supply on the TP.
Those listings would be taken off the TP then.

I’m betting there are two reasons:
1. New place of power in home instance is causing people to use 25 quartz daily just because they can.
2. Ascended armor speculation.
Linen has also been skyrocketing, but for some reason wool isn’t, which confuses me. My only guess is WvW is rewarding more wool than ever, and for some reason nobody is getting much linen these days (even though a few months ago linen was far more supplied than wool). Thankfully I’m stocked 50/50 with linen and wool, so either one rising is good for me. But anyways I feel like I missed some recent news about ascended armor but can’t find any.

I didn’t double check, because its to early and I’m to lazy atm. Didn’t I see something about celestial trinkets in the chat code link on the datamine page?
Yes, there was, but Charged Quartz Jewels have always existed, so I honestly doubt that’s the cause. Unless Celestial Jewels are something else altogether, and people jumped on that speculation.
Its speculation trading but it will be required for celestial ascended armor most def. Everything having to do with crafting armor has shot up or will soon. Plus Quartz is not your typical material, the supply that built up during the Bazaar LS is now dwindling with very little put back into the market through the home instance node, making it an easy target for power traders.
I considered investing in quartz back when they were 40c and decided not to.
I wish I had invested more heavily, but just didn’t have the funds back then. Still, the 1000 units I bought at 40c and sold later for 1s20c was not an insignificant profit at the time. Ironically I sold a 100 units (from my home instance) when this news broke for almost the same money I initially invested.
