I’d really like to change my race since it’s a asura and all the weapons get so small and it’s already lvl 80 so i find it a waste to make another one….
So i’ve been wondering if there would be something where i can change my race with :o

Please use the search function, this has been discussed a lot. There are many complications if such an item were to be introduced, such as effects on personal story.

I would love to see to see this, or at least a way to transfer my 5 sets of gear on my charr engie to a different race if I was forced to reroll. This would be a good money making opportunity for them. Anet could easily charge $20 for race changes and get away with it.

I don’t think they will every allow you to change race or profession. They want you to start over because the longer you play, the greater the chance you would spend cash for gems. Plus it keeps the active population up.

i wish they would do this. sadly, it seems they wont.

I’d like it too. Just have your story reset to the beginning if you change race.

At this current time it wont happen, but it will happen in the future. The money gained from it is simply irresistible. Take WoW for example.

Race change will never be implemented due to the conflict with personal story. Reseting your story is by no means a viable solution but just opens up to potential exploit.

Pick your character carefully when you create it or just make a new one, doesn’t take that long.

Or just make it available only to people who have finished their personal story

Playing a charr annoys me so much that I won’t tough my ele except to craft. Even though he’s fully decked out. I would go back to him if he could switch to human/sylvari/asura

If you don’t play him then delete him a roll an Ele human/sylvari/asura? It’s not like leveling is hard.

I would gladly pay for this. After leveling several of my characters to 80 now, I am deeply regretting not making them all Asura (Norn/Charr are extremely difficult to maneuver for example in a lot of the jumping puzzles (clipping), etc.). So I did see the 6 month old Arena.net statement saying “no” with no explanation, and I don’t see a major issue with the personal story (it’s definitely not a technical hurdle, just reset them). And no I’m not re-rolling 6 characters and re-leveling them, I’d rather just pay and change them (like I did in WoW). So for me, I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

I do not think this will happen, I could be wrong. Reason: personal story / personal story achievements.

funny how me and a friend was just discussing about race changing in LA, it does cause conflict with the personal story but there are possible solutions to it, such as only allowing a char to change race after it hits a certain lvl in story, or just a story wipe and you’ll have to start from the very beginning again :\ But still, I doubt it’ll ever get implemented…

They’ve already announced that there are no plans to implement this feature.

Yeah, because being a noble human, instead of a blood legion charr, will dramatically affect my “awesome” quest to become Trahearne’s sidekick.

Darn it, you people who keep saying re-roll. It comes all too late when we realize our character would be better suited as another race. I hated Norn for how big they were, not realizing making them as small as possible makes them barely bigger than most human characters. I wish my warrior was a Norn, but I have amassed way too much karma and time getting gear to simply “re-roll.” Re-rolling is obviously the only solution at this point, but it’s by no means simple.

Yes, it would be complicated to implement, but is by no means impossible. Making it only available to 80’s with story complete seems pretty harmless. The intro story stuff before Trahearne is where it would get tricky. As far as cultural gear goes, how about a token or something that allows us to trade it in (not sellable or refunded to avoid money exploit) or else just have it transferred to become whatever race to which we change.

TL;DR to basically say re-rolling isn’t a simple fix. People should do their research and test everything out and look at races to see how gear fits, but race change isn’t completely impossible to do if people have a change of heart too far in.

I’d be interested in changing the race of one of my alts – could just re-roll but it’s already level 30.

If the option was there, I’d take it and pay gems for it, and wouldn’t mind a complete background and story reset. Just saying.

There is currently no Asuran technology that can rewrite the very makeup of a being’s DNA code. The Asura are a very smart people, no doubt. But that doesn’t mean they can use magic to change your molecular soul. And if they did… well then you’re not you, are you?

I would like this Race Change too and I like the idea of having the story reset without quest rewards obviously. It should just be like creating a new character in the creation menu, except it is LVL80 instead of starting as LVL1

I wouldn’t change race, however there is a way to do this without messing with Lore or Story.

Don’t change the race or story at all. Simply add an option that allows your character to train someone else, and then have it where your character dies and the new person takes up his mantle as his apprentice.

That way your not a different person. You play the new guy. It also does not conflict with your story.

There is nothing hard or complicated to it, imo. You change your race, your personal story resets.

And then you get a free black lion key… Or become the first person to have 2 pact weapons.

So why aren’t you applying that solution to your race change problem? Roll a toon of the race you wanted, and move on?

It’s more than that, like certain race only items (cultural set) or items only gotten on character creation. Story locked items etc (vigil, order of whisper, priory. Right now these items can be transmuted from other characters BUT there has been mentioning that the possibility of that being reverted in the foreseeable future.

Really though, it takes 3 days to make a new 80. Save yourself the gems and do some lvl up

Changing race would be difficult if someone does not have completed story… What about to make changing race possible for 80 lvl char. which has completed story.
I dont see any other thing what could cause promblems with it :-)

Not interested in race change personally, but I don’t think Asuran technology would be a good excuse for making it happen anyway. It seems to me that they make their inventions out of self-interest, and what Asura would ever want to become an overgrown, less intellectual bookah? :P

one of the problems is what if you bought cultural armor on one character then switched that character to another race what would happen to the gear

I’m against the idea of allowing players to change the race of their characters, as I think it diminishes the whole “what’s your story” concept behind the game. I also realize however that some players could care less about the story aspects of the game and would like the convenience such an item would offer, but I’d rather development resources were put towards other things (such as a lfg tool) at this stage of the game’s life.

How exactly does a gender, size or whatever change work then, hormone injections? :p

There should be no race change. This is an RPG, after all. Want to change races? Create a new character. What’s next, profession changes? That would make some sense at least, unlike the other changes. There’s no need for soulbound items if you can simply change your character into everything all the time. The total makeover kit already went too far.

Because of WvW rank, karma, world completion, soulbound items, etc.

Why do you have such an issue with it? Because you don’t want it, others shouldn’t be able to either?

Most likely because it would require quite a bit of work, that would most likely be taken from other, more needed/useful areas.

You keep your level, your trait points, and your skill points. You have to unlock your utilities and elites, along with your weapon skills.

I guess the only issue I could see is cultural armor. You could require the hero to not be wearing any armor during the race change.

Quite a few of the personal story missions reward items that are specific to that very mission.
Unless you do the exact same thing (which would be impossible with different race) you will not get the same missions and therefore not the same rewards.

But, what rewards are you speaking of? I don’t remember anything that would make any difference at all in, well, anything.

Getting access to items based on a choice and then getting access to the items you would have gotten if you had made the other choice would be rather weird.
It would also be a problem with people getting access to several Pact skins per character and such.

He has a point, nothing you can get from your personal story is that valuable. As for pact skins, they will still need to do the story line from start to that point to get them to begin with, not a big deal in my eyes since they still have to work for it.

So because they are not valuable people should be able to get as many of them as they want?
What would be the point in having a branching story line if you could just do all the parts with the same character anyway?
