Would it be a bit much to ask if the shoulders and gauntlets were able to be toggled? It just seems kind of silly you can’t hide the shoulders or gauntlets, but you can hide the helm. :<
Yes, it probably would. I was so disappointed when I learned it was an outfit. You can’t customize anything about it, and it dyes horribly.
And yet it’s still 700 gems…I’d have gladly paid 1000 for armor I can actually color properly.
They really need to let us toggle those shoulders, the male outfit makes no sense whatsoever, how does having 2 caravans on your shoulders fit into the “shadow assassin” image?
The female outfit looks alright, the shoulders are quite dainty and go with the set quite well.
So please either give us a toggle option or edit those male shoulders…
Pulled up the webpage today earlier to check for the patch notes but stopped when I saw the words ‘Shadow Outfit’. My heart skipped a beat. “Could it be?” I wondered. “Finally a decent assassin class like armor set?” With hopes higher than Snoop Lion in Jamaica I clicked the link and then… Face palm. Looks good on a female character that is for sure but a male… nope.
I was so certain I could toggle the shoulders … cries
I was surprised it was an outfit. Outfit status is usually reserved for holiday and gimmick items, whereas this sort of look may well see actual use in the Tyrian game world.
my God, I’m such an idiot. I mindlessly bought it specifically because of shoulders and gauntlets, because they would fit very well to my thief’s outfit. Turns out, it’s an outfit and not a set…
Can ANet please change this from outfit to skins?
There’s so many possible combinations and styles to be done.

they should allow for mix and match per piece
I also bought it thinking I could toggle off the shoulders. Fortunately with the helm toggled off and the right color mix, it looks good for my ele.
I got it looking more like regal armor than shadow assassin.
the only thing i would like a toggle of is the back lace, it might work for festivals but for an assassin like that really can’t have anything that can get stuck behind a branch or such.
The Solution seems simple; just make it possible to toggle gloves and shoulders on outfits as well. I’d love to get rid of that dragon on the Festival Outfit.
I want the option to fill in the leg holes on the female. I’d also love to wear the male outfit on my female characters.
Toggling the stuff you mentioned sounds cool too!
I guess it was my fault for thinking this was a armour skin. Had I known that this was basically a outfit that cant be customized (besides dye) I wouldn’t have bought it. Wasted my money.
Likewise, I’m disappointed in myself for buying this outfit when I logged on only to find out that I couldn’t hide shoulders/gloves. I’ve learned my lesson to research things before I buy. What’s even more terrible is I spent real money for it. =/

If you hide the gloves, shoulders and helms of your real armor it hides the outfit ones too. That’s how it works with other outfits. Does it not work on Shadow one?
Overall though it’s too bulky, especially on male Sylvari, like most things. Need more tight fitting things like Ancestors outfit, which I’ll probably be wearing forever if they are already going back to their old habits.
Yeah, this outfit is nowhere near the quality of the ancestral outfit.
I think being able to hide your shoulders would go a long way on this outfit. It’s not as simple as enabling it though. The outfit was probably designed to be one skin, and so it doesn’t break down into shoulders, gloves, chest, etc. It only breaks down into head and body.
It’s a shame, I don’t think I’ll be using it often. Looks good on asuran males, though I don’t see my warrior running a ninja outfit.
Oddly enough, I like the outfit as it is.
The outfit looks great on the Asura and Charr. It looks pretty good on male Sylvari, although of course, the shoulders are too large. I’m not too keen on the female version because of the pants. To me they look ridiculous, not sexy.
it’s called traditional, sexy has no place in that….

If there were female assassins/ninjas, I doubt they ran around with their hips exposed like that.

actually yes, because if they are actual ninja’s/assassins they would not need anything to cover it up, you can’t see them coming anyway.
also, some do this for a really good reason, it removes any chance of the clothing getting in the way of fast movement and removes any resistance from fast leg work.
even seen a ninja in tight jeans?…….

No. Because as you said, you can’t see them coming anyway.
Since you can see the ones ingame, they must be ninja wannabees. That’s why they run around with their hips exposed. It’s like the gangster wannabees with their pants hanging so far down it’s almost falling off and their underwear is exposed. :P

If you saw them, they weren’t a real ninja!

How do we know what they wear? Did they give us anonymous fashion tips?
This thread inspired me to log onto a male character. LMAO. The shoulders are approximately 20 feet wide, give or take. There has never been a set of armor, anywhere, at any time, made by anyone, where the shoulders are the biggest piece. Ever. Except for GWAR.
WoW did it all the time. ;-)
I thought WoW was part of GWAR.
I’d think this would be a simple formula. Let the players toggle the shoulders (and gloves!) and more will sell. As a bonus, you’ll look like heroes for fixing it.
You can toggle the gloves and face parts of the outfits by ‘hiding’ the equipment before equipping the outfit. I don’t own the shadow outfit, though, so I don’t know if it follows the same programming protocols.
It doesn’t.. only the head piece can be hidden.
