Unbound ex-MF items suddenly soulbound?
They have already explained it. From 9/3 patch notes:
•Weapons, armor, and trinkets that had a magic find stat combo have been flagged as account bound and Soulbind on Use. These items will now allow double-clicking to permanently change the stat combo. Items that were already Soulbound to a character will continue to be bound to that character. This is a one-time ability, and the options are dependent on where the item was acquired. All trading post listings for these items have been cancelled and the items returned to the poster.
That doesn’t explain it at all. Why should I suddenly lose a load of money because an item had MF stats? Where is the logic in that?

Lose money? You would have gained money if you read the Disequilibrium blog post that came out before these changes. People read the blog and went and bought mf gear at higher prices than they previously would so they could select stats and get stat combinations for cheap. If you had items that weren’t sold bound you where sitting on you miss out on some pretty good profit if you had put them on the TP when the BLOG post came out.

Not everyone reads the blog. Its sad that ANet doesn’t even care and are just waiting for this to go away even though they screwed up.

There are links to the latest announcements when you log into the game. There are links to the latest announcements on the front page of the website. What do you expect them to do, had deliver a framed copy of the announcement and leave a mint on your pillow? If you don’t keep up with changes to the game it’s your fault, not Anet’s.

Whose fault is it that ANet doesn’t do what they say they are going to? BTW I didn’t even have any MF items on the TP its just kittened that ANet doesn’t even care that they screwed people over. I feel like ANet handled this situation terribly and then just say “oh well, deal with it” even though they are the ones who misled players.
they dealt with it the only possible way and if you did not read up on there statement then though luck as the statemeant where said in enough time before so you could sell the items on the tp.

They didn’t mislead anyone, they announced what would happen in advance.
They told us that our Magic Find equipment would become account bound. What they didn’t say was that if the items were already soulbound they wouldn’t become account bound. Now I have useless gear in my inventory that I spent gold on and I know others spent Laurels on MF gear and there is no compensation for that. They most certainly misled us.

Re-read the quote above.

what they also didn’t tell you is , that if you had MF listed on TP that it would be returned to you without the listing fees you were charged for listing it. So you were screwed either way
So what? It’s play money. I got back some stuff from the TP, salvaged it and sold the ectos. I didn’t lose anything.

You are really dense. They didn’t say that until afterwards. THAT IS MISLEADING.
Honestly I’m not even that upset about this. There are many other issues with this game and this is just another one of them. I just wish they would acknowledge that the way it was originally worded was misleading and apologize.
“For example, if you have an Explorer’s Pearl Staff, you can now double-click it to change it to any other crafting stat. Since all weapons, armor, and trinkets with magic find will become account bound, any of these items currently on the Trading Post will be return to the poster. The only exceptions to this rule are in some high-end weapons that will still get the ability to select their stats, but will remain tradable.”
This is from the blog posted on August 30th. Tell me that isn’t misleading. Oh well though. I’m moving on.
I’m also very upset about this. I could understand equipment that was already soulbound changing to whatever stats you want, and remaining soul bound. To make everything that had mf on it before soulbound is just stupid. WHY DO THIS? It was announced that explorer stats would change to berserker, and travelers would change aswell. But only certain items got change and everyone that was holding the rest of the exotics looses gold due to this crap.

Well, they did add that sentence after the patch. It didn’t say so from the start. I had hopes my MF would become accountbound, soulbound on use again, so I didn’t end up with a useless set.
This update was a very poor way to phase out old MF items. You might as well have just deleted them, because for most players they were something useful and you made them worthless.
Stealth updating the patch notes to add that statement after the fact just goes to show how shady and misleading this whole process of removing MF has been.
Advertise the change one way, implement it another, then go back and change the notes on how the change was supposed to be.
So unprofessional in my book.
Welcome to GW2.
Don’t support the Gem Shop, it’s that easy.
It was the only way to go, else we would have seen an increible spike in zerker gear on the tp. Too bad that you missed the post but it was pretty clear what they intended to do.

Because everyone reads the patchnotes like it’s the gospel. Making non-account bound items into account bound IS THE ONLY CHOICE? REALLY!!!!! NO, it’s the worst way you could possibly handle it. How about we fix the market by destorying your account, IT"S THE ONLY WAY! See how stupid that sounds!
Changing my stuff to account bound without my permission isn’t a good choice at all. I paid gold for those items, and ANET destroyed thier usefulness, so it’s pretty much like stealing from me (as far as im concerned). So i do plan on voicing my opinion and letting ANET know this is BS. ANET, you will be hearing from me alot more.
Having an undefined item, which is what they did with items with MF, is simply to powerful of an item to be tradeable so they soulbound them. Sadly they didn’t have the ability to only do it until you chose a type at which time free them up for trade. At least you can still salvage them for something.
RIP City of Heroes

At the very least too they could have refunded the listing fees to the people that they returned the MF items to when they pulled them off the TP

They didn’t have to make the item undefined, ANET chose to do that. They could of picked any stat combo for non-account bound items. Instead they chose to make them undefined and account bound, knowing ppl had tons of these items, and they couldn’t use them after the change. This was thier choice, and it was a very poor one. I don’t want to hear any excuses for ANET, because they are clearly in the wrong!
Well then, I guess you are your name. :p
If they picked something, players would be upset because it wouldn’t be what “they” (the individual player) would have picked.
I am surprised that the script they ran to return the items off the TP didn’t also refund the bid. That was bad.

Destroyed their usefulness?? If it was usefull to you, you would have been using it and it would have been soulbound/ accountbound already. No, you were speculating on the items becoming something more expensive due to the change and it didn’kittens not the games fault that you failed to put in the research in the items you were flipping.

Side note: I love how the naughty word filter screens out white space and punctuation to insert “kitten” in the most interesting places.

Nobody is necessarily speculating. If you bought something from a buy order and list it as the lowest sell order, your only speculations are that the market doesn’t collapse, and that if it does, inflation will eventually push the value of the item above your selling price. This makes it an investment, not a speculation, especially when inflation is so steep.
When a magic voice from the sky proclaimed that these items were no longer tradeable, it destroyed a market in a way that goes beyond “playing” the market to predict a collapse due to a shift in supply and demand. What we got with Arenanet’s handling of MF is equivalent to the governments of the word unanimously stating that a certain good can no longer ever leave the warehouse as of 4 days from now. If you have lots of this particular good sitting in your warehouse waiting to be sold you will try to scramble to sell in 4 days. If your items are in low demand (such as level 62-78 exotics) then you might as well just melt them down and sell the warehouse.
People play the trading post like any other part of the game. Playing the trading post doesn’t mean you were speculating on anything this side of divine intervention on the market. No research you could do before the announcement could save you from this, and the announcement was some 4 days before the change was made.
Better, Arenanet states that certain high-end items will remain tradeable, making everything completely ambiguous. Better yet, they don’t know how to, or think to, use their database to refund the listing fees.
The moral of the story is that you can’t make tradeable items become not tradeable.

Ah OK I wondered why I couldn’t remember seeing it. Very shady anet you really should do better..
Not to mention the severe limits on stat combinations.

Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro

It’s useless to me because i have no use for it. I don’t need them for gear, I have more dark matter then i need, & salvaging exotics for ecto is usually a waist. The only way it’s useful to me is selling it, and now it’s account bound, so YES it’s useless!
BTW, it is the games fault actually that i can’t salvage inscriptions from my non-crafted exotics like they announced i could.

Pretty much this. I had a set of MF gear that I would of course no longer use ready for my alt. But of course it stayed soulbound because Anet flat-out lied to us, then retconnec their notes.

He stated that he had NOT used the items ergo they should have been fully saleable.
