You’re wrong, exploits don’t cost either of these companies any real money. For plexes , or in this case Gems, to enter the economy someone has to buy them in the first place, there aren’t some seeded there by the companies.

Once the gem has been bought into the economy by a player ANet already has the financial worth of it on their bank sheet. What happens with the gem from that point onwards, inside the game economy, be it traded speculatively for gold or removed from the economy via a gem store purchase is of no consequence.

That depends on how gems a generated. If they are generated like EvE plexes – there is no problem for company.

In EvE, only way to plexes to enter the economy – someone buys a timecode, breaks into plexes in account management(60 day timecode=2 plexes, 1 plex=month of subscribtion), and then takes them to the hub to sell.
I don’t know how exactly gems are generated, but i can see serious price changes on currency exchange.

The obvious exploit being used isn’t an exploit but a hack. I’ll say what it is, these bots. I’ve reported several bots but nothing is ever done about it. They warp to target over and over nonstop. One hacker on our server is so bad, he has a team of bots that all stick together, look exactly alike, etc and they warp/teleport all over the place auto killing.

So those are bots? i saw people teleporting to target, disappearing and moving in weird patterns. I catch some videos of them. I hope the TP comes back up soon because i really need to buy something, i salvaged my old farming rare crafted gear and made the exotic one but i still need a few stuff. So now i don’t have a farming gear (magic find) with me until the TP comes up, need runes.

We’ve been posting UPDATES ON TWITTER??? What about the official forum? Or do you work together with Twitter? To get all GW players on Twitter so they receive A GLIMP of updates. This is ridicilous, so for you to understand: What if your boss will pay you Cash, but you need to go to Africa to get it. Please make sure updates are ALSO posted on the OFFICIAL GW2 forum, then we wouldn’t make such a big deal out of it.

It isn’t so much the fact that they are “updating us on the issue on Twitter” that is a problem for me as it is that the last update was 7 hours ago and basically says “Yeah we took that thing down. We’’l bring it up one of these days and let you know”. That’s pretty pro right there. You can’t say that here? And on FB? and in Your Reddit thread? Or have it posted on the "down for maintenance splash screen? Or the news feed on the launcher? Maybe just a picture of Rytlock stepping on the throat of a TP vendor?

I agree. A Twitter update with just "Trading Post will remain down for maintenance for the time being. We’ll let you know when it’s back up. " is very lazy.

You should be posting updates to issues here on these forums and not expecting people to have to find out things via twitter.

When I turn on CNN or something, when they’re giving news they don’t say “Yep, there’s a war going on in the Middle East…and now on to other news!”. I’m not asking for a novel but I think taking 3 minutes to write an update rather than 20 seconds is time well spent.

ArenaNet if you are going to use twitter please link it back to your own official site through a feed.

That way you can continue to use twitter but also keep people who choose not to follow your twitter accounts due to a variety of reasons (including overall spam) up to date with what is going on without duplication of effort.

If you want to get fancy you can automatically feed updates to specific sub-forums for ease of use and organization but I don’t expect that.

Any update, regardless how minimal, is a good update when it comes to a critical service outage situation. A company acknowledging that a service is not working as intended is reducing the number of support tickets they get regarding that service.

Saying that they are working on it reduces even more support tickets.

Saying that they don’t know -when- it’ll come back up but that they are working on it reduces more tickets.

Sometimes more information is -not- a good thing but continual information is.

As to your CNN comparison, you’re talking about the product (being the news) itself instead of delivery system – being able to watch CNN on television, the web, or through an app.

Gotta love ANets idea of maintenance, over 9 hours with no info or anything, this is not maintenance it’s failure!

And I disagree with you. There is absolutely no way anyone doesn’t know it’s down. It says down for maintenance in big bold freakin’ letters with that lazy…whale…thing…. sleeping on the job. That in and of itself solves the problem.

I, personally, am tired of thatkittenthing. We’ve dealt with it far too much the first couple of weeks where it was up for days on end that I cringe every time I see it. As such, I’m completely unsure of how long this is going to be an issue, and would appreciate a time frame of some sort. It doesn’t even have to be definitive, but knowing that they are shooting for today as opposed to next Monday would be a little better in my opinion. And if it’s going to be something that they suddenly realize is going to happen a few days from now, knowing that would also be nicer than having to periodically check.

It isn’t something where you have to pick one over the other.

You can post an update saying “It’s down, here’s what’s going on with it and what we’re up to” etc with some actual information. Then hours later if nothing has changed just post an update every so often with the standard “Sorry it’s still down, we’re still working on it” worded in whatever way.

Really getting sick of this kitten. So much for ANets’ boasting that their games have “little” downtime.

To be fair, they DO have little downtime. The trade system is down, but they kept the game up while they work on the problem. In most every other game, they would have to bring everything down to fix the problem. So yes, they have little actual down time for the game.

Only problem is that you can’t buy and sell stuff on the broker, or use the item shop. Sucks, but at least you can still do everything else.

Well just to keep everyone up to date. As of about 20 minutes ago. They still do not know when it will be up. If they do know they are not saying. All that’s been said is it is currently down. And careful on the hate guys. If you have constructive criticism then give it. I like you think they should post on forums as much if not more than social media sites but if its not constructive its not helping you or anyone else.

I rarely use social websites either, but the mobile support twitter has is probably why companies like to use it for making announcements.

It really helps to just be able to follow a twitter feed with your cell phone via txt. That way you know, say….exactly when your server goes up and don’t have to F5 uselessly for 10min guessing if its up or not.

However, I totally agree that twitter/facebook should be a secondary announcement posted only after being displayed clearly on the main product site.

Would be nice to have patch notes for fixes like this, for people wondering what was wrong with it.

You don’t have to sign up. Just text “follow @GuildWars2” to 40404 to follow the GW2 feed.

That’s what makes it so popular I guess. Only the one making announcements really needs an account.

Wouldn’t bother signing upto Twitter, they haven’t even posted anything about the Trading Post in over 9 hours, they’re like every other MMO developer.

I agree that the official site should have the most recent updates. It’s odd that I have to check Facebook and Twitter and not the official site. First thought is always go to the official site, not go to Twitter and read through replies to other things while trying to find the most recent update and not knowing if it’s the most recent update. Last reply that mentions Trading Post was 9 hours ago unless you count the one that sounds like it’s Trading Post that I’d need to read the original post of to know for sure. And yes, Twitter doesn’t require signing up. Everyone knows that.

As for it being down, it’s inconvenient and annoying at times, but it’s better than the whole game being down. I’m sure it’ll all get worked out and down times will become rare.

That is the problem, the main issue for the argument, not so much the ETA of the downtime.

I AM HOPING this downtime will fix my bugged Trading Post. I have been unable to Buy or Sell ANYTHING on the trading post for almost a week. The Buy or Sell button is just grayed out. It affects all of my characters so definitely a bug so having this downtime is the same for me with it up or not because I can’t use it anyways.

I dont know about you guys, but if im mad orkitten off about something for the BLTC this is were im going to vent at, i just spent good real money on gold and gems, now its all down for a entire day? really? you’re trying to make people use facebook or twitter to check on progress, and all it says it, its down…ty…

Ildatch While they probably do not want to give us an ETA (they are probably unsure), I like most others would like to know the reason why it went down. Been following twitter but no new info yet.

Anet is under no obligation to tell us specifics on why something is not working at the time. For one, if they were to come out and say they were fixing an exploit in the game, there would be some people who would go attempt to exploit it (ie gold farmers) because they really have no care about being banned before they’ve already made money off the deal. If it is a bug, then telling us there is a bug wouldn’t change how quickly it gets fixed.

As for time between updates, as the company is based on the West Coast of the US, you shouldn’t expect much for PR between midnight and 8 am PDT, which was about the time frame between twitter posts.

I don’t trust or like sites like Facebook and Twitter because of their lack of security. Therefore I look at it like this…Since this company (ANet and Ncsoft) is basically forcing people to visit these sites for updates, then they are liable if anything should happen to our systems.

I don’t care about excuses, simply because there isn’t any valid excuse for them not posting information on these official forums.

Basically it’s like me running my own business but telling people to go Walmart to check the availability of the items I’m selling.

Them not posting much info maybe sort of a policy. Of course I really don’t know that but can guess. As for the comments on not trusting Facebook or Twitter. Just so you know you don’t have to have an account to follow them on twitter at least. Just hit follow and you get the updates. Mind you I do think they should post here but yea.

To those who are fine with the no info. That is your decision, and its Ok for you. But a lot of people like me and others who have posted, like real reasons. Not ‘hey its now working’. Perhaps info on what happened to it, bugged? Exploit? or just broken code. At this point no one knows which leaves a lot of room for the unknown factor. Many people hate the Unknown factor.
