Vol's Epic Gold Making Guide
Run a dungeon tour of:
AC 1/2/3
CM 3
TA Fw/Up
SE 1/3
COE 1/2/3
COF 1
Arah 1/2/3/4
27.90g + tokens + champ bags + chest loot in ~3 hours.
176g + tokens + champ bags + chests in one week of touring.
Then if you want more money – run any Arah path in an hour, sell for 6g, make 24g per path you run. Sell four paths a day + dungeon tour each day and you’l have 848g + tokens + champ bags + chests in a week.
The one requirement for this is skill.
Game over, yo.
This guide takes me back to the heady days running my guard (staff w sigil of fire) on the endless pent/shelter/jofast event chain …
The problem with this guide is that it involves too much work for your average farmer, and depends on having 10-15 other players wanting to do these CS/SoD events at the same time.
On many servers, particularly in the EU region, finding 10 -15 players in any PvE map (apart from the champ train maps), let alone in CS/SoD, is near impossible. Only guilds dedicated to farming could pull this off.
So, this guide will not pull the champ trains out of Queensdale/Frostgorge and anyone expecting a glut of T6 mats/ecto to hit the TP will be very disappointed.
What blows me away is how many people state how there are so many better methods yet offer up no tangible guide that can be followed. This is a well thought out, proven method. If you are going to shoot something down, or claim to have a better/faster method to make gold, lay it out like Vol did.
Tell us HOW you make 100 gold a day on the TP, share your knowledge, your secrets. Anyone can follow what Vol wrote and be successful, perhaps not to the same level but even if they make 50 gold a week, that is a vast improvement on what a lot of people earn.
If you take 50 words to say you can do it better, prove it by writing 500 into a guide, otherwise, move along.
Seriously, if you can’t take the posts by Mystic and Wanze and figure out how to make cash on the TP then you should really stick to farming. There is ONE principle -
Buy things at a price that is lower than the value and unlock that value
It will involve math, a bit of research and the items involved will change day to day. There are plenty of specific examples, stats and info and I’m frankly amazed at the level of information that is shared (and would love to see the unshared spreadsheets). As many have said before – we can’t say “buy item x, salvage with Y kit and sell A,B,C for profit” because that overwhelms the markets for x, A, B and C to the point where the whole scheme is unprofitable.
I’ve got a couple of tangential questions, since you’ve got a series of identical characters.
1. Do you find that measurable differences in drops between them? For example, maybe one of your guards gets noticeably more dyes than the others, or another of them always seems to fill his bags with monster trophies and gets very few equipment drops. There have been some theories about character-bound RNG seeds affecting the drop results, and comparing identical characters rules out differences in how each class tags and does damage.
2. Do any of your characters ever get stuck with a DR that’s difficult to shake. I recall some old reports about a kind of perma-DR for people using magic find, which has made me wary about the account-bound stat, which you can’t turn off when things go wrong.

The one requirement for this is skill.
..and time, and the ability to derive some measure of enjoyment out of playing that way.
I personally go for AC123 + CoF1 + Sell Arah p1/2. Even that takes up more time than I usually have any given night, though, so I typically don’t do the Arah parts except on weekends.
I’m guessing the MegaServer system throws a huge wrench into this guide, since you’ll lose the whole aspect of guesting to the best servers for events.

One could say that.
It will actually make these events more accessible on EU.
Certainly sounds as if some potential is taken away. Guesting to get bosses done, rotate the events on different servers …
Let’s wait and see.
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

Ha. I hope those other farms are ready, Vol. Megaserver just killed this.
Well the farm was terrible anyway.
Sell Arah, 24g an hour, and you don’t even need to be putting in constant research in to products (like you would for the TP), you just need to learn the fights.
Game over, yo.

I was just coming over to say that too. They apparently accepted his challenge to nerf it and killed it at the root: guesting.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Well Vol you challenged John Smith to nerf this… and he killed it right at the source lol.
Poor Vol … He must be in a state of shock!
Poor Vol … He must be in a state of shock!
Actually Vol was one of the earliest to suggest something like the Megaserver would happen when the EotM was first introduced.
Great guide nonetheless.
I got temp banned from the forums so sorry I haven’t been here in awhile.
A few things now due to recent developments:
Some portions of this farm may not be viable. Metaevent guesting, for example, will be irrelevant now due to the scheduled timers. Believe me, I’m very angry at this development and it is a pathetic ‘fix’. Not only does it hurt hardcore farmers like me but it hurts casual players who do not have enough time to play the game. The benefits of the megaserver are nothing compared to the disadvantages to the scheduled format.
As for Orr farming, it will still be viable but very inconvenient. I don’t know if guesting will be eliminated completely, and how it would work, but assuming it remains in place, it should still work. The only problem now is the use of waypoint guesting, which kill valuable seconds and cost us extra silver for waypoint costs. I may have to end up parking my characters at certain spots.
I will keep this guide up until April 15th and may close it after that. I suggest everyone farm their materials and globs of ectoplasm before this patch, as it is likely we are going to see some significant changes in the economy.
Oh, and I got this a few days ago, which lessens the sting of megaservers.

I really find the megaserver idea to be bad. Even if the overflow management and the guesting systems had their flaws, we got accustomed to them and going back on them to do a total revamp breaks player habits.
I’m really sad that it broke your farming guide, which is really awesome. While I was already doing some of these events, I added some new ones into my rotation and i’m thankful to you for that. I’m making ~100 tier 6 per hour of active farming and the server changes are gonna mess up my farming style :’( There are some other farms though, especially for t6 and rares We will have to be cunning to make up for that loss. If ony they could go back on this stupid announcement.
Congratz on your precursor btw, you deserved at least that :p
Welcome back, as like you I have been considering the impact this change will have on the economy.
Hope everyone plans ahead wisely.
And congratz on the pre.
On the other hand … I wonder if there will be some sort of limit on event activation per day per guild.
As for overall impact on the economy. It should result in an overall increase in people per event which should mean higher scaling and supply of “stuff”.
Gz on the Tooth of Frostfang! I’ve really been ment to try your guide to fill in the times I might have to go at any moment due to real life (and the game has like nothing fun not requiring a team or a queue :p) but I still haven’t. The mega-server update all in all has me a bit worried. For all the selfish reasons: I enjoy server hopping to quickly get all bosses done, I very much dislike needing to endure 2 loading screens due to the new WP-system (I don’t care about the extra 1-2s personally.)
Will it already change all World-bosses? I thought they were going through a semi-beta phase with city-maps, 1-15 zones (yes I know that includes a few of the best bosses) and then implent it, but I might have misunderstood.
I’ve got a better guide lol
1.) Apply for minimum wage job
2.) Work until you get a pay check (2 weeks / 80 hours)
3.) Collect your ~650 dollars and quit
4.) Buy 650 dollars worth of gems (80,000)
5.) Exchange 80,000 gems for 5200 gold
6.) Buy a legendary or two after two weeks of farmingEZ ~50 gold per hour, much higher than this guide!
See it doesn’t apply everywhere. With my job (that actually doubles minimum wage where I live) calculations would be as follow:
1.) Doubled minimum wage job
2.) Work until you get a pay check (4 weeks / 220 hours) (I get payed once a month, 10h a day + kitten saturdays)
3.) Collect your ~730 dollars (that is what I get if I exchange the currency)
4.) Buy 730 dollars worth of gems (7*8000= 56000 – not sure where did u get 80k from)
5.) Exchange 56,000 gems for 3640 gold
6.) Buy a legendary or two after one month of farming
~16.5g per h. Oh well… Maybe Ill just spend it on something else.
So yea, about 8g per hour with a minimum wage job as you suggested, does not look appealing to me and also… Its not how we’re suppose to play the game.
I just found this topic yesterday, great job Vol, so bad it will not work after the patch anymore. I feel like every little way of gold farming that we find out is being hit in the face by ANet, sometimes directly, sometimes by changing something else. Not sure WHY do they not want us to farm gold in the game but either play TP or exchange top up to get some gold (well I know they get money out of buying gems but the game is not about that is it?)

Minimum wage is 8 dollars here in the states (varies state to state). Were is the minimum wage that low lol?
So after thinking about it…
Anet said they will not be introducing these schedules in the Orr zones (Temples), which would suggest that guesting would still work in these zones.
So the Orr farm will definitely still work. The problem is handling the downtime in between these events, which I currently allocate to metaevents.
Metaevent trains are no longer worth it, as we are now guaranteed a rare every 15 minutes, which for me is at least 4.8 gold in 4 hours, or a pathetic +1G/h.
Karka trains now seem to be the best bet to handle these downtimes. Unfortunately, it is extremely boring and not as rewarding as the pre-Apr 15 metaevent trains, but it’s the best compromise.
My new estimates for gold is at least 200g a week now. T6 mats will still be acquirable but I do not think I will be able to generate two stacks of ectos – only +-150 pieces.
This farm isn’t bad, helped me finish Sunrise. I think I ran into Vol at least once.
Learned a few things.
#1: SB Thief can be substituted for guardian, dat #2 spam.
#2: TC has obscene lagblobs of death and should be avoided at all cost.
#3: Yak’s Bend is best PvE server
The megaserver will be limited to only 1-15 maps for what will probably be months. This farm will be viable for quite awhile.

Exactly, orr events wont change for months or maybe even years. I also think the change in metaevent is actually favorable to majority of players.
Guaranteed 4 daily chest rares + possible rares on chest for 1hr gameplay. We can also guest to servers that are slow on finishing these metaevents to get the chest.

In Poland… But its not about that, the thing is that gem price is equal for every country. So either you work in Norway and can get like 85g/h or you work in Poland and can get 8,5g per hour.
To the topic – Im pretty sure, ranger can handle aoe tagging, I got a quite good aoe build for events farming ;-) Might share after the patch (maybe we’ll change something, who knows what patch’s gonna bring )

There’s really nothing that can match the Guardian’s tagging ability.
I haven’t played a ranger in forever, but I can’t think of anything thats going to be good enough. Traps are a maybe, but its still not going to be quite enough.
Thief with SB #2 spam and dagger storm was just barely viable.

nothing beats guardians GS #2 hands down, the ability to tag every enemy is delicious, shame its radius is small :C

Its not about GS but Staff since its the only ranged autoattack (i think) that can 5 targets.
Also i’m not really sure if whirling wrath can tag more than 5 mobs … isn’t that normally the AoE cap ?
However .. last time i have farmed in Orr with my staff guardian was in October 2012 i think

i totally thought you could have staff and GS at the same time im so sorry, and for the record, the GS #2 goes over the cap by whirling through the enemies and tagging different caps after each other through repeated projectiles

Yeah .. i was never really sure how the AoE cap really works .. is it a real maximum of 5 or is it just 5 per spin, so if you have 10 mobs around you can you tag the 5 on the first spin, and the other 5 maybe on the second spin ?
Especially when i think about axe#5 from warrior where you spin quite a while and can move in that time, i think it must be possible to tag more than 5.

@Beldin,
Axe spin doesnt hit more than 5 at the same time, the GS on guard “looks” like it does but cant either, just seperate projectiles hit at different times making it look like youre tagging 15 enemies at once

As I mentioned in the guide, GS2 has the best literal DPS – damage per second.
If you look at something like staff 3, pay attention to how slow the damage ticks – it’s about 1 second.
Then look at the damage ticks for greatsword – it’s considerably quicker, in the milliseconds.
2nd beacon is the best place to use GS 2 because mobs die there very quickly (given a zerg) and there are more than 5 mobs per wave. In particular, I use GS2 on the wave that comes from the stairs (north east).
Here’s what happens – 10 mobs come from the stairs, and because people zerg them at the point of vulnerability, the mobs die one at a time and quickly, often inbetween DPS ticks. As a result you need a skill that will tick very long and sustainable throughout that particular wave. GS 2 is good for this (of course, warrior dual axe is better)

So, if theoretically there are 10 mobs standing in a row and i start axe spin and move through the mobs from 1 to 10, i will do some damage to the first 5, but the last 5 will get no damage at all ?

no no you will damage them so long as you leave the range of the enemies that are filling your 5 cap, you have to move though and with GS#2 on guard you can just stand still

Sorry .. but i don’t understand what you say. Maybe its because english is not my native language.
I damage them as long as i LEAVE the range of the enemies ? That makes totally no sense from my understanding. Or did you want to say as long as i DON’T LEAVE the range ?
Still neither answered my question, that was if the AoE cap of 5 tags the first 5 mobs you do damage to, and after that you will not be able to hurt any other mobs if you move away from those 5 and move into other mobs.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
i was referring to damaging more than the “first” 5 enemies you hit, say you start spinning with the axe, you will start damaging 5 enemies, Unless you Leave the area of some of those enemies you wont anymore enemies other than those 5 meaning youll only tag 5 enemeis for loot unless you move around.

To supplement this, using staff 1 on incoming mobs also isn’t effective if you move around. In my notes about Grenth, I make the suggestion to encircle the mob while staff spamming, as this ensures you tag as many mobs as possible.
The only time you will be able to attack the rest of the mobs by staying stationary is hoping those first 5 mobs die before the end of the skill/tick.

This guide is officially nerfed and nowhere near close to 400g a week. I’m requesting to close this thread since it is no longer viable.
Here is what they nerfed:
-metaevent farming
-WP jumping
-Angaria farm
-Grenth farm (kill event is much harder to complete, but defense is the same)
The only viable farms are Balthazar and Melandru.
Closing remarks:
I’ve been farming this game since release and whatever Anet does to nerf people who hardcore farm this game is, to quote, “all is vain”. You can keep nerfing all these events all you want Anet, but farmers will keep on going on to the next thing. Sooner or later, you’ll end up with a game with nothing to play for because there are no rewards.
Let’s look through the history of nerfed farming since Day 1!
Plinx -> Shelt/pen – > grubs – > fish heads – > Lyssa – > Anchorage ember -> Cokittenevered Breach – > FGS train
-> and now these nerfs
This definitely won’t be the last.
Keep making bad decisions Anet and you will have plenty of people leaving because you fail to realize that there are people who play the game different than casual players, who are the target of this dreaded patch.
Or you probably won’t realize it, because you are afraid to admit that this patch was a bad decision and wish to save face. Whatever.
