Basic speculation isn’t a problem, it can be healthy to the system.
What users posted above and below are about those who powertrade things, which is extremely damaging. You can lose a lot just because they had the money to steal yours.
Even if its YOUR decision to buy something on their price or try to get some of your own. Yes, you don’t have to buy everything, or do everything in the moment.
Patience is always cheaper.

Its a game….so they are limiting your FUN thus they are a cancer for the game….

GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

You know what brought the price up? The fear of thousands of normal players. Not speculators, not manipulators. Despite what you might think it is impossible for some of the best traders to manipulate the unid dye market let alone bring prices up to 1g.

So what brought the price down? Speculators who have been hoarding dyes to sell at such an opportunity or knew how to quickly generate supply in order to make a profit. The massive flood of supply stabilized the price (as you said) thanks to these people. You are upset at the wrong people.

I would like to see some numbers from JS. I very much doubt we will ever get any though. Remember the economy report very early on? Yeah, fat chance of us ever getting anything like that again even though it is most likely at their fingertips.

It was sheer panic buying that drove the prices up in a crazy fashion.

The majority of people don’t really understand supply/demand or how a economy works.

So when faced with something they don’t understand, they ‘panic’ and seek a ‘safety’ net for themselves. Mix into that some players seeing a opportunity to make massive amounts of gold, ie greed, resulted in what happened to the unidentified dye price and price of dyes as a whole.

In the long term however, as understanding grows all prices will return to around about where they should be.

This is very much like a classic stock market spike after an event happens in the real world that will affect that business. Dyes get announced, supply and demand both go through the roof, but supply still steadily increases. Upon the announcement, it took less than an hour to drain the supply to around 4,000, then at around midnight, it reached one of its highest points ever at 25,000. Now that the bubble is over, it is still on a decline.

The only thing that I wish is if Anet had scheduled times when they make announcements like this. Tuesdays at 9am Server time, etc. The stock market has a scheduled opening and closing every day. I’m not saying close the TP at certain hours, but have a set time to make announcements that will affect the TP. This would put everyone on equal footing.

I also found this article and I feel it relates to this instance.

I don’t think it was manipulation, I think that the TP is quick to re-equalize.

It also makes me like the game less.

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.

Sayng TP is good because of the gold sink is like saying the plague is a good remedy against overpopulation….

The plague lost alot of momentum though in the last couple of centuries, while the TP is still going strong.

That is because governments hadn t people supporting plague……

I would also argue that TP play rules would be totally illegal in real life….or even worse lead to wars and revolts…something that can t happen here.

Yet people leave for that reason.

TP play rules would be totally illegal in real life

And how do you think real life markets work?

Pretty much the same, with very small variations (still have brokers’s fees, listing fees, people with lots of money can cause shares’ price inflation, there are speculations bubbles that, when they break, can cause big troubles, and so on)
Same thing, basically…
And even without going at the level of shares market, just house buying/selling brings on the same kind of transactions (have to pay fees to buy and sell the house, some houses are sold over/under their value because of planned projects in neighborhood, and so on.)

(sorry if my financial terms are off, English is not my main language…).

Hmm, Best example in time, check what Matolcsy György did and now its on the table.
(If you get any ENG or own language intel about it through the censorships)
Then compare it to the Black Lion Trading Company.

P.s.: I’m not bringing politics here!!!, just an example how an insider trading and speculating/manipulating works IRL. And then, look all the serious consequences on citisens…

Hello all, I’ve unlocked this thread for a moment to give you the stats on “manipulation” and flipping I pulled last night.

On average, anyone who “flipped” dyes during the 10 hours of volatility lost just over 5 gold. This stat required you to both buy and sell dyes, but left in any personal Udye the user had so it would skew towards making money. Overall players attempting to flip lost several thousand gold and these people comprised only a small portion of the market.
