extractor overpriced
There is some misinformation that has been passed along that changing the wvw and karma gear to be salvageable would ruin the economy. This is false. Only a handful of items would even be affected by this change. Karma and wvw gear should be unrestricted.
Something should be done to allow the runes to be salvaged, but allowing karma and WvW gear to be salvaged in the same manor as equivalent non-karma/WvW gear would allow a large quantity of Ectoplasm (and other items) to be introduced. There are already ways to profit from karma and badges, and perhaps they should allow this, but I’m not certain how much it would affect things or if Anet wants this.
Crafting is designed for gear accessibility, not profit.
It’s not overpriced. You’re attempting to use it for something that it wasn’t designed for. It’s purpose is to gouge those who need to recover infusions from gear (they can cost hundreds of gold).
Using them to recover runes/sigils was never intended. The fact that they’re the only things that can extract off of karma/WvW gear is only so because Anet didn’t think through the consequences of the transmutation crystal change.
OP, you couldn’t add your voice to one of the existing threads on the subject, you had to create your very own? Or the official wardrobe feedback on the discussion board?
I’ll grant you that wardrobe feedback thread is overly broad. They should have made more feedback threads than lumping several major changes into one.

because Anet didn’t think through the consequences of the transmutation crystal change.
No, it’s more likely because people used transmutation items to get around the inability to salvage karma/wvw gear and not have to spend money on replacing the upgrades. The only reason you could shift the runes and sigils around was because the “wardrobe” system could not determine what was the source item and what was the skin item. Now that the wardrobe system is capable of doing that, there’s zero reason to allow people to shift runes and sigils. Players used transmutation to shift the runes from gear that cant be salvaged? Oh well, that was never the intended use of transmutation in the first place and now the unintended use has been removed.
Players are complaining over that fact. They cant understand, or are unwilling to understand, that the use they found for transmutation stones was never the intended purpose.

In this case Anet still screwed up bigtime: by giving zero indication when purchasing karma/WvW gear, that they behave differently than expected.

I asked a simple direct question unmuddied by other discussion for the dev’s to answer. This was the point of this thread.

Yes, Ecto’s are one of the very few markets that would be affected. they would lower in price. Runes of Melandru as well as a few others. But the people who are against the mats being recovered are simply invested in the markets and dont want to lose their potential profits.

Calling out a specific employee is against the rules – calling out the Anet devs in general almost never gets a response. It’s like hanging a giant neon sign on the post that says “I’m really kittened off and want someone to yell at.” People in such a state are not usually offering constructive criticism or interested in polite discussion. You may be an exception but if the devs never read the message they won’t know that.
Also, you cannot control who posts on the forums. This is a place for players to talk to each other, first and foremost, and the vast majority of responses are from other players. Devs rarely post in any thread that they haven’t created themselves.
They already have a thread dedicated to collecting feedback about this issue. Other threads about the same issue will generally be ignored, closed, or merged.

It would have to have a steep upfront cost, plus a per use cost in gems.
3000 gems for the item, plus 50 gems per use, for example.

1 no specific employee is mentioned nor am I “calling out” anyone.
2 I have no interest in responding whatsoever. What I am interested in is Anet taking a position on the issue.
3 Please dont put words in my mouth. At no point am I asking anyone not to post here. The only response to this post that matters though is the one that gives this little thread a new icon to the side.
4 link it and show me where anet specifically addresses if/when these items will be salvagable and/or the extractor will have its price lowered.

4: Why should they respond to your topic, if there are already plenty of open threads on the exact same topic and this issue has been brought up plenty of times in the dedicated feedback thread that was opened by Anet?
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
TL;DR – When can we expect to have the restricted gear unrestricted or some other option to get upgrades out of substandard gear?
If they announce anything, it will be in the dedicated feedback topic, not in yours.
They will also not announce in your topic, at what point they plan to announce something about the issue.

Link to “dedicated feedback thread” please. I cant seem to find it. Is there a topic open where the dev’s state one way or the other something is going to be done about this for us to give feedback on? If you are referring to the wardrobe feedback thread then I do not believe this applies to wardrobe as much as it does to economy(based on some of the things you have said wanze) and WVW.
I already had one thread on this topic moved from here to the WvW forums to never be seen again because it mentioned wvw in the title, so I figured I would try this forum again but with a direct question hoping against hope for an answer. Even a simple “never” would free me up to dispose of the different gear and be annoyed and move on.
It’s a wardrobe/transmutation issue and belongs in a thread set up by the devs for that subject.
You can throw a kitten about it if you want, but it won’t change anything. Numerous threads have been closed with a moderator note to the effect of “post your comments in the appropriate feedback thread.” No one but other players are going to respond here, and the devs responsible for collecting feedback about the issue probably won’t even visit this forum.
If you want to get snippy with people trying to save you time and effort by directing you to the proper thread for your feedback, go ahead. It doesn’t bother me. Look at the “watchwork pick” thread, people have been demanding responses from devs about their pet peeves from launch and it just doesn’t work like that. The devs do not answer to any of us, personally. They announce things when they decide to announce them, not when we demand it.

I disagree, It is an extractor/upgrade/economy issue not related to wardrobe/transmutations(charges, no more stones)/outfits which with the new update is entirely cosmetic and has nothing to do with the functionality of the actual gear or upgrades added to it.
I honestly dont feel I am throwing a “kitten”, which probably offends me more than whatever the filter censored. I am playfully responding to the bad troll attempts and wanze to pass time. I also feel like I’m riding the proverbial bull here trying to keep this thread from veering off course from the original question which is,
When can we expect to have the restricted gear unrestricted (with regards to salvaging) or some other option to get upgrades out of substandard gear?
Nothing about the cosmetics of the gear, nothing about the wardrobe, nothing about transmutation charges, and nothing about carebear outfits. The implications of what I ask would have an effect on the economy which is why I posted this specific question to this section(BLTC) of the forums.
Instead of trying to veer this topic off course why don’t we discuss what type of effect this could have on the tp if they decided to make karma and wvw gear unrestricted. I already mentioned the ectos and melandru runes, I doubt any other t6 mat market would be touched significantly. If the gear gave soldier/rabid/whatever noncraftable insignias and inscriptions would it really touch those markets or would people still be able to pull nice little flips off those over the course of a week? Basically would the extra supply close those price gaps and steady the market with a constant stream of materials? I doubt it. That market is already flooded with dungeon token salvages that it wouldn’t really affect anything.

If this is your core question, your topic title is misleading.

The topic title is the conclusion drawn by myself and many others who can do math with regards to Gold-Gem conversion. The main body of the post is positioning statement. The core question addresses a viable solution to that problem and gives the devs an opportunity to simply say “never” and allow many in the community to dispose of the substandard gear and move on, in what ever way they choose.
lol, Wanze quibbling about my topic name :/ You have to have more behind your position than this. Why dont you share what effect the changes would have on the TP in your view. I find a lot of your insight to be of value if not always spot on.

You dont need to open a new thread on a topic that already has a dedicated feedback thread that is monitored by Anet. Its obsolete because Anet already has plenty ways to inform us, if they have anything to say on this subject.
Personally, i dont oppose what you are suggesting, i have an exotic temple set with melandru runes myself, that i would like to use on my next ascended set. I would love to hear some news but i simply think that this topic will not provide it.
If you want to read my opinion on how salvageable karma gear would affect the economy, go ahead and open a new topic about it. I wont post it in a thread that is named “extractor overpriced” and demands answers from devs.

Besides this, the topic itself is something that would be discussed internally at Anet and not publicly on the forums. Unless the entire staff have been hiding out in a cabin in the wilderness for the last two weeks, they are aware by now that there are complaints about the new system. They need time to collect data and discuss solutions, then to test and implement the solutions. They won’t announce their plans until they are ready to announce their plans, no matter how many threads people create demanding it.

LoL. I dont demand an answer. I cant control anyone and certainly have no leverage to force someone, specifically the dev’s, to do anything. I feel I am giving the devs an opportunity to simply clear up some confusion as to what people should do with outdated gear that is not cost effective to use an extractor on.
I am sad that you keep going back to the “this is the same topic as elsewhere” I think I proved my case on that subject earlier. This topic is specifically related to the BLTC, not wardrobe.

Fair point, but…
Clearly, lots of people really want something for removing runes/sigils too.
I will admit that I don’t entirely grasp the implications for the market, but how about…
1. Rename the current item to “Ascended Upgrade Extractor”
2. Introduce an “Exotic Upgrade Extractor” at the same price with 25 uses that doesn’t work on Ascended gear?
Would that be reasonable?
I’m a new player who has made a mistake or two with runes and sigils, and who would also like to just try out combinations out to see what I think. So I miss my GW1 “Perfect Salvage Kit” which cost materials/money and a skill point. Hmm, adding skill points into the cost might keep a lid on side effects.
2. Introduce an “Exotic Upgrade Extractor” at the same price with 25 uses that doesn’t work on Ascended gear?
Black Lion Salvage Kit. Nuff said. Yes, you lose the gear, but it’s a better price to pay in sacrificing a gear piece that costs roughly 8g tops (for most zerker pieces) in order to recover a rune or sigil that costs the same or more. It’s even already got a built in “inflation” control since you get a limited number of them through dailies, meaning you need to buy them with gems if you run out too quickly.
