Why aren’t the old super skins going as much up in price as many of us expected if they old skins didn’t come back?

Sure the super greatsword went up to 40 gold, but the skins I bought in hopes of flipping (scepter and shortbow) were 6.5ish gold when I bought them as SOON AS the trading post starting working again, but looking at the data, the prices are actually slightly lower and about the same.

Why aren’t people rushing to buy these skins and raise the price so they can match with the newly released ones?

My only theory is that not enough people have played SAB yet or have enough baubble bubbles to buy the new skins, so old skins aren’t on their minds yet.

What do you think will happen to the super scepter/shortbow skins? They went up from 4.5 to 6.5 gold, and seem stable for now.

The Scepter and bows were never very popular skins. Even during the first release they were usually around 8g-10g at most. The Greatsword and Shield are the two big ones of the original set, with the Sword also being semi-popular (though nowhere near as much as the GS / Shield).

They might go up a bit, but it’ll probably take a while.

I never understood why the scepter wasn’t more popular. I think it’s a great skin, certainly one of the better ones for scepter. I guess it’s just not a popular weapon in general?

All they’d need to do to the bows to make them more interesting is give them SAB arrows and a sound effect, they would fly off the shelves.

The market is satured. People don’t view these as desirable skins and for most players they will only have 1 skin per weapon type.

I myself would love to complete Tribulation mode and have a super rare greatsword skin…but I already have Eternity and I won’t replace it.

There are similar players out there who may not have a legendary but may have invested a lot of gold in themed skins or any other expensive one.

So here you have
-lots of limited supply (slowly being drained)
-stagnant demand
-an ever increasing supply of skin alternatives which will never end and further saturate the skin market

All the above factors result in the little price movement.

I’d say most of the people who wanted the old skins got them the first time around, so there is a smaller market for them now. Rarity alone won’t drive sales, there also has to be sufficient demand.

I certainly agree about the Scepter. Its my personal favorite of the entire Super set (even the new ones) and one of the few scepters with both a particle effect and an animation, which are aspects that are usually desired to a lot of people. I’m really surprised its not more sought-after. Maybe it’s just the weird bulky shape or something that turns people off.

The bows do have special sound-effects like all the weapons do. But the shape of them is the most basic bow shape you can think of, aside from the particle effect, so perhaps that’s why they’re not really that liked. Well, that and the fact that bows in general have a low number of professions that can use them to start with (only 2 professions for each).

These skins were probably directed at a small/ish and specific group of players and these players probably already have them.

I never expected these skins to be huge like the Halloween skins.

They will probably settle at 20-30g range like the skins before it. The GS skin sat around 24-26g pretty much the whole year and spiked last I checked (yesterday) to 36g.

I don’t really dislike the skins, but I don’t love them either. To me, they are a bit on the “immersion breaking” side of things.

My disinterest in the skins is affecting my interest in SAB. It’s strange – I appreciate the overall concept and idea, but I want to play Guild Wars 2, not some 16 bit anachronism.

I’m probably in the minority though.

It doesn’t help that SAB isn’t as popular this time around or at least a lot of people are frustrated/disappointed with it at the moment.

Thanks for the responses all!

I may have lost 12ish gold after selling the skins back at 4.5 gold apiece or something like that, but with every mistake and frustration, we learn, so I’m relatively unfazed.
