In addition to the normal Forum Code of Conduct, we have set modestly increased expectations for forum members who participate in the CDI Sub-Forum. Those who choose to participate in discussions on this sub-forum should be aware of the following:

  • Our moderators will be casting a more critical eye in this sub-forum to ensure that posts are constructive, reasonable, and respectful. This applies to comments directed towards either developers or forum members.
  • Posts that are not constructive, that use a tone that is unproductively negative, combative, or condemning, or that make no meaningful contribution to a discussion are subject to removal.
  • Those who engage in poor choices as far as what they say or how they say it will be subject to escalated forum moderation, including the possible suspension or termination of forum privileges.
  • This means that where you may receive a warning about a particular post in the general forums, you may receive an infraction point in the CDI Sub-Forum; where your post may be ignored in the main forum, it may be deleted or infracted in the CDI Sub-Forum.

We have set these higher standards to keep discussions on topic, constructive, and reasonable. By doing this, developers will be able to get the most value from their time spent reviewing your input on various CDI subjects and players will benefit from increased interaction from developers.

Please note: Forum members will not be able to create threads in the CDI Sub-Forum. Forum members in good standing will be able to respond to existing, open threads that are initiated by members of the Guild Wars 2 Team.

Thanks for your cooperation and for your contributions to our Collaborative Development Initiatives!

I’m not sure if this is the correct forum for a suggestion of this nature; If it is not, I wouldn’t mind being redirected to, or having my post moved to such a place.

I’d like to start by saying forgive my unorganized nature here, I’m sort of an exciteable fellow when the imagination train leaves the station; I also hold no lasting expectation for this, because… This request is REALLY unreasonable in terms of how hard it would be to fulfill or rather, a part of it would probably be hard to fulfill. I actually imagine it would take considerable developmental work to build and then add to Gw2. With that said, here we go.

Hey Anet, I have a wintersday list for you a few winters down the road. I wanna be able to play a hylek, I really really really cannot stress how much I wanna play a sword wielding hylek named Glenn(If you get that reference, I think you’re awesome.) I’ve been quietly lurking in your updates page, waiting for that to happen before I roll back onto your servers from my hiatus; Although this Mordremoth fellow I hear of has my interest piqued. Unfortunately, when you live on data limited tethernet, you can only Gw2 so often and when I do I tend to get carried away and my wallet pays the price.

Also… I notice we have a potential 4 of 6 awakened dragons. I had a rather wild imagined scenario and I ask the following for consideration: A world v world server where our team of 500 has to wage war on all your awakened scary dragons, their champions, and their minions all over some waypoints, objectives, fortresses. I just think it would be cool to have a full scale war against the dragons And with each dragon forced back into dormancy or slain, I can just see all related minions falling. It would be… quite something if realized as I envision it. I’ll be really good for following wintersdays until you’re ready; but I get the feeling, something along those lines, is what you’re working towards casually, responsibly. Please indulge my hopes, and live up to my imagination.

All things said, you can bet I will seek out this Mordremoth, and its champions when I get back online over the coming weeks.

-Someone who wants to avenge all the wrongdoings to the Hyleks with a sword that he will claim carries the hopes and dreams of a knight named Cyrus.

Happy belated holidays and new year.

(forgive me if this is the wrong thread, however i believe this is the closest to what i have to say is related)

Hail,

I would like to start by saying i am enthralled with GW2, unfortunately my time with original GW was light as my college years began shortly after. I’ve read the books, Sea of Sorrows is my favorite, the lore to the game has grown to something spectacular. The NPC characters your teams develop are intriguing, complex and diverse. The world is absolutely beautiful. I can go on but this is for in-game content development, with that there only ONE thing that seems to pull me out of the immersion of the game.

I would like the option to be able to disable the mini-map, and/or, turn the mini-map into a compass that will rotate NSEW. The compass would not require any waypoint information, or hint to nearby events, just a basic working compass. I feel that i tend to look at the mini-map far too often which take away from the stunning world which has been created. Many may say this will make the game more difficult, however in the long run players will get to know the world more intimately. I have been playing MMORPGs for quite some time (my first being EQ, about a month prior to their Scars of Velious release)and i can honestly say any MMO i have played after that does not include a full-time mini-map has brought much more enjoyment when exploring, whereas all other that have one constantly turned on i do not recall much of what the areas in their worlds actually look like. I can run through looking at the mini-map without looking at the actual world itself.

I know many have elaborate ideas for designs, quests, skill balances, world content, etc.
I hope when reviewing this post you understand where i am coming from as i am attempting to keep this short and to the point.

Thank you for your time and consideration
-Cazic Thuel (Crystal Desert)

Need tons of minidungeons:

I have many complaints about Guild Wars 2. Most of them aren’t really worth voicing, as they would make the game different, but arguably no better. It suffices to say that you should look at the first game if you want to see the closest thing to my ideal mmo that may ever exist.

Guild Wars 2 also possesses many desirable traits. In particular, I like playing a game that lets me solo play whatever build I want without dying all the time. I enjoy building a party of heroes in the first game, but at times I just want to charge in alone: to play the lone hero who dives into a dungeon full of monsters to emerge victorious. This brings us to my main problem.

The game bores me. I quit Guild Wars 2 and went back to the first game more than a year ago. On the rare occasion that I log into the second game, I can’t find much to do. Dailies feel like chores. Events that I enjoyed soloing when the game was new are now swarmed by armies of players. The prospect of forming a pickup group for fractals or something just makes me sick.

The solution? Minidungeons. Both games already have many structures on their maps that seem like they should be explorable, and plenty of room to add more. Think how much better GW2 could be if every tiny building or ruin was an entrance to your own instance. This could add a whole new (separate) kind of map completion. It would essentially combine all that GW2 already has with much more joy of exploration and repeatable gameplay: something all players can enjoy, no matter how much time they may devote to the game.

Adding new dungeons would add permanent new content without erasing parts of the existing world. A few could involve jumping puzzles and other challenges to find them, but most should be easy to get to. Some could involve new creatures, such as skeletons and walking corpses more like those of the first game (unaffiliated with Orr, dragons, etc.), while others could be simple things like Skritt nests. Some could have their own story and champion bosses who talk to players. Others could simply be filled with creatures. Some could go halfway between, having objects to interact with that give players some idea of long-forgotten events (e.g. the demise of a party of Ascalonian refugees who sheltered somewhere much more dangerous than it appeared). On the small side, you could have a small cave with a few wild beasts, or a large chamber filled with destroyers. On the larger side, you could have a tomb with seven or eight decent-sized rooms, and plenty of the local (non-Orrian) undead. Occasionally, minidungeons could chain together in a sort of unofficial quest series.

These dungeons should be designed for two to three people. Those who love to zerg could bring in a party of five, but the hardcore players like me should survive soloing. Of course, it would be even better with an effective scaling system to make me find it worth playing with any number of players, and any set of character levels. Either way, I shouldn’t need to have a guild to do anything. Players could come back to the game after months or years of absence and essentially pick up where they left off. Players who have a buddy or two on at the same time, but not enough people for anything major would still have something to do (without the dreaded PUG).

You can already find the beginnings of what I’m talking about in GW2. Players can find many creature dens and similar spots in the world that could be turned into instances. The crypts by Neci Quicktemper in the Plains of Ashford provide a prime example of something that could become a small dungeon. I used to enjoy soloing there. It gave me a sequence of champion bosses to fight, ultimately leading to a chest (with a smaller chest incidentally on the side of one room). This could easily be a dungeon. It would allow players to fight these bosses at any time, rather than hoping some miracle allows them to pass by the crypts when the champions are around. The cave system leading to the vista in Human’s Lament would also make a good instance (though it could afford to be more difficult at 80). These don’t involve complicated boss mechanics or puzzles and quest systems that glitch out. They’re basically just closed spaces with enemies in them.

This change would allow the game to appeal to a broader range of people. Plenty of people would love to play a game whose every zone is peppered with dungeons. The system would keep people playing even if irregular schedules keep them from doing much with friends in the game. It would also bring back people like me: people who gave up on the second game. Guild Wars feels epic. GW2 feels small. There isn’t that much to do at level 80, and what you can do requires competent friends logged in when you are.

Forgive me if this is in the wrong area as well, so I’ll keep this short.

CDI Suggestions from your fans:
- Polymock tournaments – It would be awesome if you could bring these back, but with a new and completely revamped twist. I see there is a portal (not working) to go to the Polymock arenas in Rata Sum. Are there plans already in place for this? It would also be really neat if people can use all these minis they have been collecting in this fashion.

- Armor sets – As you know many people use certain “builds” for how they play their characters. Now that we have the wardrobe system & outfits are even an option, can the devs figure some way of implementing a side icon or maybe another tab for armor sets? You could have like 1-4 slots available with a gemstore option to purchase more or something. Then players can change the loadout with armor they would like to quickly swap into to match completely different build. This would be especially useful with the upcoming xpac release and the new specializations.

- Guild Bank Increase – Having an option to increase the size of the guild banks further would be great. Maybe take more influence or something. We have a lot to share with our members & keeping it organized is a feat with such limited space.
*To add on to guild banks – Why does the stacking not work in the guild banks menu like the personal bank? You need to pull an item into your inventory to stack it then bring it back into the bank.

Thanks again for the great game you have created!!

I am not certain this is the exact place to put this, but i’m going to take the chance it is.
we need a place for remembering Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw !!
a garden with apple trees.maybe.where its shady & cool, and maybe a a seller that sells cider,& if that’s to limited it could be a place to remember all of the orders who train us. Maybe we could put statuettes for them there & a torch, possibly. I could completely make it complicated , but i personally would like it simple, a small quite place for a gentle soul . also if you wanted to really hide it so as not to spoil it you could just say its a monument to those of the order who have fallen or something. and have something each liked represented in the garden.

Another addition:

-Crafting items – Can you please make slots in the “Material storage” for some of the additional items that are still needed/used for crafting? IE Mystic Clovers, Vision crystals, Doubloons, Augur stones, Foxfire clusters, etc.

There’s really not much point to these items besides crafting anyway. Like the Mystic Coins, these items should have slots as well.

Guys, all these specific suggestions should go in the appropriate subforum, most of them in their own threads. The CDI subforum is for developer/player think tank discussion of larger scale projects, and this particular thread is about the methods of contributing to those discussions. If you want your ideas seen you probably don’t want to post them in a highly inactive place that requires no dev attention because there is no active CDI in progress here.

I would create or post a reply in the sub forums below….but those have all been blocked off. This is the only one left open.

The proper place is in a thread in General Discussion.
