Farming grind: orichalcum and ancients
Statistical loot is not BiS; it’s just some vague nonsense really.
Some players have interpreted “the best statistical loot” as meaning “loot with the best statistics”.
Similarly, http://venturebeat.com/2012/05/21/guild-wars-2-interview-monetization/ . Mike O’Brien: “Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.” Some players interpreted that to mean that GW2 did not feature “grinding to get the best gear.”
On their own website: https://www.guildwars2.com/en-gb/news/is-it-fun-colin-johanson-on-how-arenanet-measures-success/ " Colin Johanson wrote, “We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who don’t are just as powerful and get to have fun too.”. Some players have interpreteed being “just as poweful” as meaning, “just as powerful, and not less so by having worse gear stats.”
Some are able to read these statements and shrug them off – the basic argument there is, “players should not be so stupid as to believe marketing noises made by ArenaNet spokespeople.”
Sad but true.
If we go with the plain meaning, then best statistical gear means gear with the best statistics.
When that phrase was used it was used according to how MMO players would understand it, and to MMO players that phrase could only be interpreted as meaning the stats on the gear.
I’m curious to know how you would define “best statistical gear.”
no need to change anything..
it is good as it is now
and random location after reset will make it just a little hassle for botter
Is no such thing, they just warp from node to node int he first place. You think the script they are running that has them appear out of thin air to tap a node and warp to the next one gives a flying kitten at a rolling donut where the node is one spawn from the next?

MMO players better learn some English then because describing something as the ‘best statistical’ that isn’t statistical in the first place doesn’t make any sense. Gear isn’t statistical just because it has numbers attached to it, no moreso than I can call any other object statistical.
Here is my theory:
1) The guy that said that doesn’t know what he said or didn’t say what he meant to say
2) He wanted to be vague.
When I first read that, my first interpretation for ‘best statistical’ was ‘most common’. That’s not a leap of logic either because there are three ‘kinds’ of ‘bests’ in statistics; mode, mean and median … adn they are all defined by a frequency of occurrence, not the highest value as what people are thinking here.

You think this grind is bad? Wait awhile. GW2 is being released in Asia soon. Grindfest capital of the world.
It’ll be interesting to see what effect that has, although I think I also read that ANet was considering keeping the Asian trading post separate from the existing one, precisely for that reason. I wish I remembered where I read that. :/
If they are on the same TP with NA and EU, it will likely make everything dirt cheap at first, but ANet’s response to that has been overwhelmingly ridiculous numbers of materials needed in newer recipes.
The TP in China will be seperated from the existing one.
There are many reasons for it.
Seasonal items from updates that havent been released in China yet and also, some items had to be changed in appearance and name due to ethnical reasons.
You also wont be able to transfer between servers or guest between China and NA/EU, send mail, whisper etc…

I would certainly imagine the prices of all lower tier mats would decrease rapidly. Imagine tens or hundreds of thousands of new people are starting from level 1 at the same time and gathering everything. The shear amounts of mats hitting the TP will be astronomical.

And of course we couldn’t have that, have to protect the integrity of the TP which an entire tier of gear is excluded from.

There were other mentions of it that practically clarified they indeed meant “best stat” gear.

Then it shouldn’t be a problem for you to link them.
Still I will give you the benefit of the doubt he did mean that because I don’t see how anyone comes to the conclusion they have been mislead by that statements indicating people will be able to get BiS gear. It is indeed possible for every player to equip themselves with BiS gear because all the activities to collect the mats to do so is within the grasp and capability of a casual player to do.
I get a fairly decent amount of ori/wood from salvaging blues and greens for luck. More than I ever obtained from my “farming” runs.
^^ This. I do the Frostgorge champ train daily for about 1-2 hours and then salvage all blues and green. My luck is at 108% now and I am quickly accumulating lots of T6 mats. I find this fun, relaxing…. unlike running around Cursed Shore and killing all the things chasing me for some porous bones. No… just… no.
The champ train also gives me silver and other T6 mats like vicious fangs, powerful blood, etc, and the chance to get exotics. Maybe I should stop saying how good it is. I don’t want the zerg to get too big :p

On my server some nights, and on weekends it’s already too big. I have to skip champs and go ahead to the next just to not miss out on all of them. As much as the champ trains are maligned on these fora, it is a lot more social (and therefore fun) way of grinding for materials. Pity it is frowned upon and has been nerfed since introduction of the champ bags.

orichalcum isnt and issue for me i get enough of that fro champ bags and savaging its ncient wood that is impossible to get, i havent got my artificing to 500 yet becaus of the amount of money it costs to buy the ancient wood to do it

Yeah wood is a huge issue because it requires too much wood across all types to refine into planks. It seems to be unequal when compared to ore usage.

Game needs about 25% more wood nodes per zone than currently spawn…..
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances

Or rich nodes/node clusters (similar to the cooking mats node groups – currently there’s only one equivalent with t5 saplings) for wood.

1. keep the nodes on the same locations. Still boring to harvest the stuff, but at least less annoying and time consuming. I want to do something else than “reexplore” Cursed Shore running through all the boring mobs who try to gnaw at my heels
No. On my server, we spice things up with a “mining run” every day. If the nodes were always in the same place it would be boring.
2. mark the nodes somehow on map so they look differently than mithril and cypres saplings
Yes. This is a good idea. All the icons should be slightly different to denote the tier, imo.
3. consider making some tough high level mining area guarded by vets or even champs where we can harvest the top stuff (only)
Thanks!
No way in hell.
Google -> gw2nodes -> enjoy.
Still a grind. When T7 mats became the higher level T6 mats availability should have been increased. I said in another post that I felt like gouging my eyes out after farming to 500 artificer and I’ve still got weaponsmith and huntsman to go.
Everything in games are a grind. Otherwise what’s the point of playing? Do you want to log-in one day and have all your ori’s available in your inventory?
Or do you actually want to go out and work for your items?
I completely agree with this. Time and effort make it more valuable when accomplished.
It’s nice to see that there are quite a lot of people who support this. ^^ Makes me happy for some reasokitten
some people are just lazy and want to be spoonfed…..
If its a “grind” to you, you can either accept the rewards are not for you or you can pay a premium to the people who feel like putting in the time AND want to sell them.
Or you can put in the effort.
But plenty of people ARE getting to the rewards they want so don’t expect the system to bend for you.

Only when that time and effort is interesting, instead of tedious and boring. And only up to a point. Beyond that, it only makes it more annoying.

I think you’ll find out that “interesting” means different things to some people. Believe me when I say this… some people BELIEVE it is interesting to go fishing in a video game. Watering plants, chopping trees and cutting grass.
This unfortunately creates a negative feedback loop.
Developers see that their players like this type of content and make more of it. What’s worse is that developers realize that it doesn’t require much thought, resources and manpower to design it. Eventually developers become so lazy that their content quality suffers to the point where they end up chasing away their entire player base.
Did they nerf it so the locations change every day or is someone trolling the gw2node site?

There were a lot of patches since the beginning of the Halloween. Each patch, no matter how small, means a node reset.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Must not have noticed the update when I logged on last night. I guess it had to hae been a very quick one to not have seen it.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
Nodes also reset if the area is ever totally empty. It somehow happened in Frostgorge on Aurora Glade towards the end of last week (I’m surprised, I thought the “champ train” running there would mean it never emptied), causing an Ancient Wood node to spawn at the top of the JP.

I notice that happened for Southsun all the time. It turns out there was a small update that was small enough to finish during the quick second that I was looking away from the screen when logging on.
A relief though since having nodes respawn in random locations everyday would kill farming or at least for those that play for the few hours after reset.
