Question re Crafting Rares for Ectoplasm
I doubt its bannable due to the cost of crafting exotics/rares in mats is just too high.
Too much cost for the return profit.
Think about this logically. Why would you get banned for doing something you are perfectly allowed to do? If we weren’t allowed to craft rares to salvage for ectos, then those rares wouldn’t be able to give ectoplasms in the first place.

Curious, because salvaging a well know item led to be permabanned (snowflake), so well, i guess fairness is unknow on Anet offices ..

That is what I thought as well. To me it sounds like a perfectly reasonable way to gather ectoplasm, but she did reference what took place with the snowflakes recently so I thought I would seek some greater wisdom on the forums.
The issue with the snowflakes is that the only cost was mithril (which is very cheap). You only needed the one snowflake to start the chain. Even if you didn’t get any ectos back, you still had the snowflake so you could just try again. The cost for doing this was extremely low and the yield was astronomical.
It might be similarly troublesome if you could salvage inscriptions/insignias from crafted weapons/armor, but you cannot do that so there is ALWAYS the cost of the mithril/silk plus the 15 Tier 5 crafting materials per item crafted.
ANet isn’t adverse to people generating rare materials. They are against people doing so for practically no cost.
as said above the snowflake was a special item they put in for event and didnt think it fully over that the crafted items could be broke down for ectos and people who abused this clear oversight to make mass amounts of gold where banned.
early days when next to no karma got an item you could break down for ectos was spammed over and over to make tons of cash, this was banable.
now using standard crafting recipies and making the cheapest ones and breaking them down hoping for luck (actually get ectos) to make some profit shouldnt be of any problem. Why is this? well if there is any profit in this people will do it and soon the demand for the materials will go up making the price go up and profit go down and you need to do something else. its how crafting markets work.
Thanks for the feedback, guys. <3
