I’ve been calculating what it would cost to get 150 AR with Might +9 Agony Infusions.
Please tell me I’ve made a mistake in my math…
16*9 = 144 AR
2*5 = 154 AR total
1 Mighty +9 Infusion = 3* +9 infusion + 300 Fractal Relics + 200 Stabilising Matrix
16 of these would mean: 48 +9 infusions, 4800 Fractal Relics + 3200 Stabilising Matrix
Adding 200 more Stabilising Matrix for your 4 weapon slots.
Am I the only one who thinks this is insane?! Especially as there’s no way to get them besides ascended salvaging and luck from your Fractal Dailies
Just for the record, I’m sitting on 284 atm…
It is insane and it is correct. The 9 status infusions are supposed to be the (very) long term goals and gold sink for your fractal adventures. Note that it was already expensive to get the (5 stat +7 AR) ones, but they were not very popular due to low AR for their price.

I don’t think it’s insane. +1 to this because it explains why they are long term goals
No, you are wrong:
You can buy from Trading Post too.
Have fun!
it’s very good design.
ensures you always have something to work towards without massive powercreeping
You need to compare how many more you save by having the lower and higher bound as close as possible. You get as many +7 as possible before going towards +9. Basically, using 16 +9 with 2 +5 makes you spend WAYYYY more than the optimal alternative.
Best way to get 150 without Tears of Alba is to use 12 +9 with 6 +7 since there are no stat infusions with +8.

Your math is fine; your conclusion skips a few steps.
As a comparison, you could replace every ascended weapon you have with a legendary — the cost difference would also be “insane”; there’s no reason to do that either. (Admittedly, legendaries have identical stats, while you’re asking about an additional stat+5 per infusion slot; the principle is the same.)

honestly the stat boost is so tiny its not worth it.

I remember when people were saying the same about ascended gear.

And it’s still true for most people: most of the game can be played in exotics.

from what i hear its like 200 power or something. thats nothing. ascended gear gives way more boosts.

Well, a food stack is lower than that, is not necessary, but is a nice help.
So yeah, is not game-changing, but if you haven’t anything to spend on, might just improve your stats

food costs about 2 gold. vs 150 gold per.sure if you have nothing to spend it on its fine. or anet could actually make it a worthwhile thing and people might go for them. a new gear gold sink. win win imo. or lower the cost. but id prefer the better gear personally.

Better stats would make it mandatory so I think it is good as it is. If you want that small advantage pay the price, if not don’t buy it.
Question: don’t the enemies in higher fractals have greatly increased toughness? So wouldn’t a condition damage 9/5 have a bigger effect?

no they got rid of that because condi necro became the meta.

I thought they just toned down the amount of toughness.

yeah, they just toned down toughness scaling. It now caps at a certain point.
Past level 50 fractal, thoughness doesn’t go up anymore, for your interest.
