Wouldn’t a AR check be more practical? I’ve been in a Jade maw fractal 30 if I’m not mistaken where we realized that 3/5 people didn’t have any AR and dropped right at the AR check.

Maybe when you change the fractal number scale it does a AR check and whoever drops well we can chose to kick or carry.

You know, the majority of SC members has very high AP and they are one of the guilds with highest skills in PvE. AP only tells you one thing: how invested you are to the game.

Wrong it shows just how much noninstanced content person plays…. It shows that he plays alot of OpenWorld PvE what is the content with the lowest skill required.

In a way, AP doesn’t show you how much instanced content the person plays either.

For one good example: a good friend of mine, Jerem, 28,589 AP, was one of the leaders of Snow Crows. He is a daily farmer, achievement addicts kittenorts to PvP just enough to get the Champion titles that he needs. He has all other Edge of the Mist achievements – the most boring thing in this world I disgust. He did enough map completion to build up 12 legendary weapons. At a glance, he looks like a dirtiest casual chinese farmer. BUT, he is the one of the best mesmers in EU. He was in at least 80% of SC dungeon records. He was in one of the earliest raid teams that cleared the wing. AND, he got that AP number 5 months ago – currently MIA.

At the same time, the number of mastery doesn’t guarantee a player is good or bad. AP or Mastery just shows how dedicated a player is, or how much they play in different aspects of the game. That said, they are still a much more interesting conversation starter than a low AP player.

And what exactly does this prove? I have a friend with 27,000ap that doesn’t know how to dodge lupi’s kick

There’s an agony check spot in the Mistlock Observatory that i assume is there exactly for this reason – to check whether your AR is enough.

Nice, I have 19k AP. Is it clear enough that I wasn’t talking/referring/responding/making a point to you? How’s about reading everything with its context? [The original context is quoted below. Please disregard if readers have been aware.]

Sorry, I mostly use English to write papers. I suck at the intricacy in the daily verbal communication in the forum, hmm…

Should have probably worded my response a bit better.
The person you responded to stated that open world content requires pretty much no skill, which is true.
And even tho it grants achievement points, how much “skill” did (in this case) Jerem actually earn from farming achievements, and would he have been a worse player than he is now if he wouldn’t have farmed them?

AP is a horrible indication of skill, but sadly the only one available in a quick glance before seeing someone actually perform.
And as much as I hate judging by AP, I have to admit that when an 800ap ranger joins my pug, I generally assume that its just gonna be a really bad player

This all coming from someone with about 4000ap that was also in one of the first groups that cleared the raid (since apparently that’s some kind of great achievement)

Did you disagree for the sake of getting the last word? Because (I have clearly said that)

AP only tells you one thing: how invested you are to the game.

As for Jerem, I believe he had plenty of practice into Jumping Puzzle and he excels at it.

Nah I just like getting into pointless discussions on the forums because its more enjoyable than the game itself, and there hasn’t been enough kittenposting lately.
/s (or not)

Anyways, if you clearly said that, then why do you even respond to him and make it look like you’re proving him wrong while you apparently agree with him?

Please don’t take my chance at having the last word, I worked hard for it

Honestly it’s best to ignore people that post these AP requirements. Most likely they are themselves bad players and feel that one loose end will ruin the whole run. People like that i instantly block, they are not worth my time.

I myself have 4.5k AP. I have done over 1k fractals in 2 months. And have a personal fractal level of 77, and the AR required for all of those scales and then some. I often skip fractals some days, and do 10-20 runs the other days, depending on my mood. Form your own squad. If i can run scale 77 with people who don’t even meet the AR req, and no one dies, but this guy can’t even begin to fathom people below 5k AP can do a scale 32? Then you don’t need said asinine player. 20k AP players getting carried by a 4.5k AP player in a scale 67 in one instance (they didnt trait for condi cleanse). I had to solo a fractal boss by myself. With a necro minion build that those same people sad was bad for group play. Ignorant, the lot of them.

AP is not a good method for basing how good someone is. The people who do use it know this, but they do it anyway. That should tell you that they are not confident, or even good players in most cases. If you ever see my name in a fractal party, anyone is welcome, so long as they know they mechanics. And even then, asking works wonders.

Good players are flexible, because they know how to be. Bad, elitist players are not.

Having an AP requirement is fairly common… but it’s also a pretty horrible way of judging someone. A person can have a high AP total and still not have a clue about how to do Fractals.

Happens way too often. People with legendaries, 19k AP and are completely clueless.

My strategy is to get a grasp of how the first fractal goes, and depending on how slow-ish/noob-ish players are I just quit and look for another group. Let’s be honest, not everyone has all day for people failing wisp running.

play a condi minion reaper and youll never have to kick a pug for being bad because youll carry so hard (no matter your skill) that even just being a warm body will be good enough to complete fractals in a timely manner.

except at dredge boss.

This discussion always seems to crop up. At this point I doubt anyone is operating under the illusion that AP = skill. It is however an excellent indicator of experience in the game. In general, more gameplay = higher AP.

As others have said, it’s the best way to filter a f2p player.

Rather amusing that this discussion still crops up. With the lower dungeon population caused by dungeon gold nerf, it’s the elitist at the mercy of the casual crowd. Nobody joins the party for ages so even the most toxic dirty elitists out there are tempted to lower their requirements.

Then the low ap’s join and drive the much hated elitist zerker to insanity. You want me to stand on geysir to spawn tar? Ha! First hold my hand while I attack every single ooze on the way. You talking to me? Sry, I can’t use keyboard, well, unless I need to turn. After you escort me to safety, I shall explore surrounding areas and if I am lucky, I get back to the ooze infested spot to see the exact place you died 17 times while trying to rez me.

When your blood pressure is through the roof and you contemplate unstalling gw2, I, the poor, hurt and innocent player low ap player still have enough energy to write on forums about you and your cruel lfg

You don’t want to play with me sir, you earned my deepest hate.

I see it all the time and for me those are the groups to ignore because they are usually composed of people that are either passive aggressive or straight up hostile. This is a video game and games are meant to have fun, sure fractals aren’t really that fun anymore when you have done it for the millionth time, but those attitudes doesn’t make it any better either.

Nobody talks about those all welcome cookies love everywhere lfg’s with new players, which tend to turn hostile as well the moment things don’t go right. Or how fast newbies kick anyone that joined their “pls halp” party while they don’t even know why they are kicking.

There is a lot of aggression and hostility in pugs but for whatever reason people mention only the 5k+ ap parties.
