9 year old leading CO explorables
1) That just means you have a really competent son, it does not invalidate every other argument out there.
2) 2 hours a day? Really? If people can trust him to run an instance can you trust him with his own time management?
1) No one said it invalidated every argument. I did say that people just aren’t trying hard enough.
2) I don’t understand your comment. He gets 2 hours max a night to play and only when his duties are done. Why do you think i went into his room but to make sure he had done what he was supposed to do?
The kid isn’t some super freak gaming god. He does tho try his very best in everything he sets out to do. Maybe other people in this forum could learn a lesson from that.
I don’t think the dungeons are difficult, they are just not fun to play. If I want to run around like a headless chicken then I wouldn’t play an MMORPG.
It just simply means, some people are too lazy to even try to learn. I think its the goal that differs in a 9 year olds head and a 20+ year old random.
Also, let Ruien choose how he wants to parent his child…-.-…im sure hes doing his best and doing what he thinks is right.

3) The arguments people are frustrated about is the difficulty finding groups for dungeons that isn’t about token farming. Want to try a different dungeon? Too bad, everybody is doing CoF speed runs for tokens. It’s an incredible waste of development talent designing the other dungeons when nobody else wants to run them.
4) Lack of incentive to run the other dungeons repeatedly. Running a dungeon for personal enjoyment is fine, but the novelty eventually wears off after the first few runs as it does to anything that relies on novelty value. There is very little incentive to run dungeons for dungeon armor skins, so people will tend to run the easiest, fastest dungeons to max out their armor stats.
5) Many dungeons are still broken with broken wings that do not start events at all, or simply have bosses that do not start combat or give the appropriate end loot. The 2 wings of CoF is an example.
6) Dungeons do not have consistent difficulty within the same run. Some mobs can be pleasantly challenging, and further down the road a boss can be mind numbingly boring and stupidly easy.
7) Bosses and mobs aren’t difficult, just long, boring and frustrating. Anet jacked up the HP of some of the bosses so high to imply difficulty that the fight becomes a 10 minute bore fest.
A boss that only has 1 or 2 mediocre combat mechanic but has millions of health doesn’t challenge my skill or ingenuity, it only challenges my patience. You can literally sit there afk and still down a boss in most dungeons, it just takes an obnoxious amount of time.
At the end of the fight I don’t feel accomplished or clever that I’ve beaten a boss, I just feel like I’ve wasted time that I could have spent doing something else more productive in the game.
8) Your post demonstrates the complete lack of understanding about the core issues affecting dungeons in GW2. All I see is a post advertising self-elitism and vanity over one’s talents under the guise of using your son’s method of playing the game, rather than addressing design flaws.
I’m using a over exaggeration here but only to try making my point.
I’m a heart surgeon, as you should be able to. I’m a pro golfer, as you should be able to. I’m world known actor, as you should be able to. …but that’s not even nearly possible.
As I said, those are way over the top exaggerations, but I could bet my life savings I would struggle with so many things what your 9 year old could just pick up, look at it for a bit and figure out how it works.
I’ve been trying to say this in many topics here now, people are different, and very much so. Some will struggle with certain things so much more than others that it becomes a frustration and when we are talking about games, but at least we have the option to not get frustrated and not do that. It’s just unfortunate how some things will be gated in here.
It’s great your son is having a blast in exploration, and I wouldn’t want those to change, but my issue here still is the story mode, which I can finish, but I struggle in them to the point its not fun and with that, after seeing the story, I don’t go to them anymore. I wouldn’t mind having some more fun in the story dungeons little bit more. They are amazingly built with great atmosphere but at the moment I would have more fun repeating the most dull events for an hour.
Your a heart Surgeon? Go save lives 0.o stop wasting your time with us! gogogo!

I can’t tell did I miss some sarcasm in your reply or did you miss the point I was making in mine.
I know 30+ys old players that can’t finish any dungeon :P
I have a made up 9 year old son too. I call him Dave. Maybe my made up son and your made up son could be pals?
Proof or it didn’t happen.

While I am very skeptical about the validity of such a claim I will try and view this from a point of view that you are indeed telling the truth. What kind of response are you seriously expecting from such a post? Your claim seems like a very veiled attempt to rile up the community in saying “Well my son is smart enough to do this so why aren’t you?”.
So while I commend your sons ability in leading and completing said dungeon at such a young age, I am not particularly fond of you posting this on a forum and expecting anything other than angering individuals with your arrogance.
So congratulations I suppose?

+1
These kind of posts can bet taken wrongly, very easy.

^ This, a thousand times over.
Dungeons are hard. This is a fact, they were designed to be hard.
This does not mean they are impossible… usually
A majority of the complaints do not stem from their difficulty, but that they are tedious and unrewarding.
Trash monsters take ridiculous amounts of time, and lord almighty bosses are just bad. You slog through an hour long dungeon only to find that you have to do that 15 more times if you want a single armor piece.
Thats why people ran magg, because dungeons are simply unfun, and people wanted the quickest way to the rewards.
I garuntee you this update will A.kitten people off and B. do absolutely nothing. Someone will find a way to PuG another dungeon run consistently with ease, and thatll be the new hotspot until Anet nerfs it.
These dungeons are not hard. People just aren’t trying hard enough.
so this must be easy for you as well, right? since someone else’ 9 yo can do it, so can you – else you’re just not trying hard enough!
This isn’t impressive, I’m pretty sure my 10 year old nephew will have an easier time at this game then people my age. They are kids, its what they do play video games.
Good for your son. I remember being 9 years old and knowing how great I was at games because the stuff was hard.
And trusting a 9 year old with time management? HAHAHA. I don’t trust anyone who plays an MMO with time management, much less a 9 year old!
AsteriskCGY.5931
wow way to be a kitten
“2) 2 hours a day? Really? If people can trust him to run an instance can you trust him with his own time management?”
He’s being a good parent, and if you think running an instance ingame is in anyway on par with managing your own time in a responsible manner, you have no freaking clue dude.
Cudo’s to Ruien.9506, for having a A grade student son and actually parenting instead of just being a parent. +5 parent of win. IMO.
Terrible thread. It’s predicated on the belief that kids are stupid.
Why couldn’t a 9 year old be a gaming genius?
Do grandparents assume their teenage grandkids are too stupid to operate VCR’s? Or is the reverse more likely to be true?
I don’t think anyone is complaining about it being hard. The problem with GW2 difficullty is that it’s “difficult” because they increased mob HP by 1,000,000 HP with no new mechanics involved.
What would be difficulty is a boss fight with alot of deadly mechanics (such as heroic Mimiron in.. dare I say it? WoW!) that requires actualy coordination than just tank and spank while dodging roflstomp abilities and ressurection fest if need be.
Great Post. Most people, for some reason.. just cant understand how to play MMO’s properly. They can’t understand boss mechanics, “class” mechanics, rotations.. etc.
I’ve sat my 18 year old nephew down and showed him everything there was to know about GW2, and he is just an idiot. He doesn’t get it at all. Any game, any class, any boss, give me 5 minutes with the toon, 1 quick read on mechanics and im set. Other people have to wipe and die over and over to learn.
Point of the story, your Son enjoys and is good at games like this. Keep letting him play, it will keep him out of trouble in High School and College (trust me lol).
Oh, and dont join pugs :-D

Oh.. and notice how people are being very defensive in their replies. Guess what? They themselves are probably terri-bad at GW2 so they are jealous of your sons mad skills. ANY time, on ANY game you tell someone they are bad, they lash out like a rabbid animal. Get out of Denial people, it will help you in the long run.

“I don’t think the dungeons are difficult, they are just not fun to play. If I want to run around like a headless chicken then I wouldn’t play an MMORPG.”
This is the truth. Dungeons need to have harder to control mobs with far FAR less hitpoints. A 15~ minute boss fight ending due to a 1 hit wonder move is annoying, a 30~ minute same fight being repeated 6-7 times is just a plain snore. Also, the dungeons are in no way balanced for difficulty. Some are really easy with multiple chests, others are dreadfully hard with few chests.
TBH, most people are scrubs I think. I usually only have issues the first time I’m playing, and have yet to meet a dungeon that took over 2 hours to complete with a PuG. I only ever left one instance of a dungeon, and that was TA explorable and I’m sure it was bugged (the 3 hit explody plants respawned every 45~ seconds, so we kept whiping on monsters we had to dodge by 1 hit plants that kept respawning during the fight – that was about 5 days after launch and I haven’t gotten around to that dungeon again since, none of us felt like slugging through probably broken content for no reason).
Dungeon fights need to be reworked, as does most end game content. Dragons are laughably easy and you basically cannot lose to one once you crit mass at around 20 people (like there’s every less then 50 people at a dragon fight anyway), and dungeons are just a snore due to the fact you everything takes a way too long to kill and is thusly avoided or dredged through.
To people who say “Well a 9 year old can do it so can you!”, I honestly think most kids are better at gaming then adults, since they have time to refine only 1 art : that of wasting time.
9 year olds are way too stupid to play video games. Duh.
leading a dungeon? You mean, he was invited, and just clicked buttons like you said…i haven’t seen a single person ‘lead’ a dungeon. especially not CoF.

I don’t know how to multi quote so I sneaked a part of the earlier reply in this in somewhat crude manner.
But to the point. I do hate to say someone is wrong, specially when not saying how or why and it’s kinda not nice. But there is so much wrong in that, even though not entirely. I was just flipping trough here quick before going to bed and spotted this. I can’t make good enough reply this late and tired anymore that would actually make sense so I do hope I remember to get back to this tomorrow.
Quick edit.
I have no idea why it duplicates that quote, it looks fine and umm not duplicated in the edit thingy.

I’m not worried about dungeons being hard. I like them hard. I like that sense of accomplishment after finishing something truly challenging.
What I don’t like is the nerfing of rewards and XP for completing a dungeon multiple times.
That’s insanity.
Yeah, last night my dog was multiboxing explore mode! what a clever beast he is!, next day i put him in farming mode and went to work:)
