I stumbled across this because I was trying to level my artifacing to 500. Since “* Orichalcum Imbued Inscriptions” are the shiz right now, I was looking for a good way to get some. Through experimentation using Ascalonian Tears, I found that salvaging exotic weapons bought from tokens yields Orichalcum Imbued inscriptions of that type when using black lion salvaging kits. I salvaged roughly 15, and got back 8 inscriptions, so roughly a 50% conversion rate. Here is some math for you:

Orichalcum Imbued Inscription: 4.5 Gold
Glob of Ectoplasm: .3 gold
Price of 1 rare dungeon armor to salvage to Ecto: 30 tokens
Price of cheapest exotic weapon (I used a focus): 210 tokens
Return on investment salvaging ectos from rares: (1.2 ectos / rare) * 30 silver / 30 tokens = 1.2 silver / token
Return on investment salvaging from exotic weapons: ((.5 inscriptions / exotic) * 4.5 gold) + 2 ectos/exotic * 30 silver) / 210 tokens = 1.35 silver / token

So this seems like a big win in my opinion. Especially since you will use less black lion salvaging kits. The numbers look even better for Ascalonian tears since you can’t change those rares into ectos because they are level 35, and you can get soldier inscriptions which are worth up to 7.5 gold.

Feel free to dispute any of this, these are just my first impressions from last night, where I feel like I saved a ton of money in leveling up my crafting, and since I had like 3000 ascalonian tears to burn. Hope this helps!

IMPORTANT NOTE: I have been informed that this only works on non-craftable inscriptions, namely Rabid, Soldier, and Dire so don’t waste tokens on the other ones because they don’t work!

From my understanding, the average from a rare was 1.4 ecto/rare with BLSK and 0.9 ecto/rare with mystic/master’s.

If you used mystic/masters instead of BLSK, it would probably be worth it to do rares over exotics, assuming you have to buy your BLSK.

Just keep in mind you can’t salvage all rares given by the NPC’s for dungeon tokens. They need to be 68+. For anything SE or under dung level wise… your only option is to get and salvage the exotic weapons with the inscription chance.

This all may well change when they add in the armors if they allow those to be salvaged for insignias (since they cost far fewer dungeon tokens than weapons). So for now I would just save them all from dungeons where you can get that chance. It’s not like tokens take up any space anymore.

Even if you do convert into ectos, I would wait to sell them. Demand for them will increase (and thus the price).

Because shield is only 210 tokens . I wish i knew this before though

Yea as long as it’s rabid/dire/soldier stats it doesn’t matter what weapon type. Offhands do indeed require fewer tokens.

Yea it’s amazing! My buddy had like 20k tokens to waste ...
I told him the "trick" and he gave me 50g back

I salvaged 10 and didn’t get a single one back. I think I’ll just sit this one out for awhile

Edit: I bought rampagers. Maybe make a note in the origianl that it’s only rabid, soldier, dire, and I think magi?

It generally applies to stat combinations you can’t craft yourselves.

Yeah, I was just unaware of this criteria as I didn’t see it in the original post. After 5 I thought I was just having bad luck, at 10 I knew something was wrong.

You’re not counting the value of the Dark Globs you’re getting.

Those can be turned into gold too – check the highest profit inscription here , the profit is basically from the Dark Globs, about 1-1.5g for each.

About 50% seemed right for me (excluding the the first 10 of the wrong stats =))

Yes, I realize I probably got lucky there. I’ll try to save up 5k tokens or so, then try again.
