If you chose what level your group is doing in fractals, therefore “opening” the fractal, do NOT relog and do NOT leave the party if you need to repair. If you dc, you won’t reset the fractal, but if you do one of the two aforementioned points, then you’ve just wasted 4 people’s time.

If you REALLY need to go afk for a while (parents making you eat or wife slapping you upside the head or kids throwing flaming kittens of doom for food), then I personally rather you just afk rather then leaving…on the third or last stage. If you think you might have to leave in the middle of a fractal, simply let someone else choose the difficulty to open.

As far as I know, relogging will only destroy the instance if you pick a different character.

Yeah, you can relog as long as you don’t leave the party. (But note that if you log off for too long, the game will auto-kick you from the party.) Leaving the party is what causes the instance to get destroyed. Not sure about switching characters.

The other way of doing it is opening task manager and causing GW2 to “crash”. Even as the opener, if you do this the game holds the instance open so you can go repair and come back. Still working as intended

You can go to char select screen and relog into the same character. This will not break the instance if you’re the owner, it will break the instance if there is no party member inside the instance though. If you’re the last one to leave regardless of if you are opener or not it will destroy the instance (only applies to fractals though).

If the fractal was destroyed because you logged into a different character that’s the same as it always has been, don’t log into different characters if you opened. Which is why I never open as I and usually one other person in the party are the ones swapping roles depending on the map rolls we get.

The Task manager crash actually gets around that so, even as the instance hoster, you can get out and change characters when you relog back in

Swapping does indeed destroy the instance. You can log out and back into the SAME char for any instance as long as you are in a party.

Cool, thanks for the confirmation. At least now I know I can relog to go repair my armor if I need to, even if I started the instance.
