Hello there,

After witnissing the kittenstorm about the CoF changes in the forum at the moment, I came to realise very few people seem to see the issue the same way I do. For the case that im not the only one, I decided to share my thoughts with you and make my train of thought very clear:

I think everybody will agree, that we all play the old video games of a sense of enjoyment. This enjoyment may come through various sources of course. The biggest one for me being to see myself get better at a game.

I wont make stuff up here: Im still a complete noob in gw2, although I started playing mmos like 10 years ago and have been very successfull in mmos in the past. Obviously I’d like to become better at gw2 now, because the process of getting better is a great source of enjoyment for me.

In most other games this process is encouraged by the fact, that content is gradualy getting harder. While going through this content everybody learns to play their classes and learn to play together in a group environment.

And there comes the problem I currently have with gw2 and where my topic comes in: I feel like the difference between leveling/storymode content to explorable content is just too high.

Now CoF in its previous form was exactly what I needed. It was challenging enough. I think i ran it 26 times in total and i learned hell of a lot by doing so. I became gradualy better with utilizing my class and playing in a group and I got the enjoyment I wanted.

This is not a post about how bad everything is now! Im ok with all the changes! Im even ok with requiring a little short of 100 runs to get everything you need in an explorable mode. I like your goal of a full gearset showing someone has absolutly mastered all aspects there are to a dungeon in particular!

What im saying is, that there should be a step in between the two difficulties, that is especialy designed towards the goal of letting people learn the game in a fun way, in a rewarding way, in an enjoying way!

Basically and for the sake of textlenght thats it. If you agree I’d like you to post something like „I’d like to have a step in between“ and maybe thats enough to let the devs know. For people that dont mind long reads, I will continue with additional thoughts now, but you can feel free to stop reading at this point.

Thank you for your attention and have a nice day!

Part 2:

You could say thats what storymode is for learning stuff and getting better. I think storymode isnt really cutting the edge, because the rewards are just not enough. Gearprogression is a big thing and also a great source of motivation and enjoyment. In gw2 all exotic gear has the same stats. There are no tiersets or whatever. So the natural first goal of a level 80 character is to get a full lvl 80 exotic set. You can get this prettykitteneasy through crafting, but because its easy, I dont enjoy that at all. As always: Maybe im the weird one here, but i enjoy getting my gear from dungeons far more. But again: This is not a thread about something ingame is broken. Storymode is great for the story and that is sufficient for me. I think there should be a way to get exotic gear through dungeons on the level of the old CoF. It doesnt need to be good looking, thats the point. From the point you acquired this theoretical armorset, all other armorsets are just an upgrade in terms of looks. I think this would also be pretty in terms with arenanets point of view to have a way ingame, that allows you to get not-so-awesome looking, exotic gear through no-so-hard dungeons. So after you acquired said gear, you would feel like you reached the point where farming harder content for awesome looking gear becomes the logical next step in your progession.

Another thing about dungeons in gw2 and in particular storymodes is the lootchests you get. They give really bad loot most of the time. Now you can boost your luck with magic find, but I think most people here arent oblivious to the whole debate about that in Diablo 3. Running in magic find gear always kittens your stats in one way or the other and you’re giving the other people you run with a harder time. This really really shouldnt be encouraged in dungeonruns. Using it in open world contet is fine, but you need to prevent this in dungeons. So somehow changing loottables to not profit from magic find would be great. At least in the „step in between“ mode id like to have.

Another thing I always enjoyed is puging. Which isnt really encouraged by the game. The game doesnt encourage you to run storymode more than once, and a pug may very well not be able to beat explorable mode by design. Again and again: This wouldnt be something I see as bad, if there was this step in between that actually was puging friendly.

Last thing i’d like to say is i really wouldnt have a problem with you guys taking your time to implement something like that. But if this proves to be a fruitfull thread, i’d like to hear from a dev if this would be a likely thing to be in the game or not. I’d like know that in the near future, because if it isnt, gw2 may simple be not for me. That wouldnt be a problem for me and it wouldnt be a problem for you. I would move on and certainly not be mourned. It would just be the way it is and thats that.

Sincerely
Ugrash
