Aldus Strombringer, HotW boss bugged?
We were able to reset the dungeon and completed it the normal way, hopefully someone from Anet will make note of this bug.
I just did the fight on Borlis Pass about two hours ago. It didn’t summon anything. Basic same dull sit in melee and hit him fight.
I heard the boss summons the vets when one of your player dies. Not downed, dies. Killed by the boss. It probably isnt a bug but a new feature to stop the speed clearing happening in path 1.
Also, 3 vets shouldnt a problem in a lvl 80 dungeon? Target one vet and nuke it down, then take the next. The actual boss doesnt do much that cant be dodged. This fight used to be an afk alt tab boss. Now you need to actually dodge stuff, and nuke down the extra vets down;)
Before anyone gives up on HoTW because of QQ on the first path. Check out the harpoon from HoTW. Its awsome:) and try HoTW path 3. Dogs awsome too;)
Not A Message.
First off, we could not target them because they would randomly reset during the fight if you pulled them more then a few feet away from the boss.
I have done all paths many times, but our group was having difficulties because the hunters were using their barrage, placing AoE all over the ground and then would randomly reset.
I also highly doubt the boss is supposed to keep applying “Jormag’s Shield” to himself while out of combat…
A stack of 66? That sounds broken.

Shield of Jormag get’s knocked off pretty easy. You just have to do 66 separate attacks on him. Multi hit attacks are awesome for this. He’s always had a high number on him, it just gets burned off fast when everyone focuses him.
From my experience, the boss summons those extra mobs when you don’t kill all the initial mobs (the ones he’s talking to at the start of the encounter) on time. I’ve heard somewhere that there’s like an 8 second window for the group to kill all the mobs (from the time you hear him start his speech with them). If you fail, hardmode activates and the boss summons those extra mobs. If you succeed then its the easy tank-spank-dodge fight that everyone is familiar with.
I’ve seen pug groups activate this by standing close enough to the encounter to start his speech but then wait a while for that AFK warrior before actually killing the mobs. This immediately fails the condition and activates “hard mode”.
I am not 100% sure about this. But from my experience, this hypothesis seems to hold true.

This isnt true. Did this last night with the guild, we stood their while giving his speech longer than this ‘8-second window’, jumped in, killed all the mobs and then took down the boss without him summoning anything.

Nevermind then. That is the only thing I’ve seen that triggered it so far though. But like I said it was just a hypothesis.

This boss is definitely exhibiting unintended behavior.
It is intended that he spawns his adds. Look for an update on him in the upcoming weeks.
This is what I’ve noticed
- If you take too long to kill the regular mobs, he will spawn backup mobs.
- If you take too long to kill the backup mobs, they will despawn, only to respawn soon after
- If you cannot kill the backup mobs, the best you can do is go up the stairs and rely on ranged. For some reason, the backup mobs will only trigger when someone is on the ground floor, or on the first couple of steps.
Server: Darkhaven. The Besthaven.
Just pull them up stairs and kill them. As long as you can drop the claymore really fast because he’s OP, you should be fine.
