Wow, for a second I thought I might have been the person whose name was blacked out… sounded exactly like a conversation I had a few days ago. Just to clear things up, I’m going to explain the whole concept of path selling.

Yes, it is allowed. For example, let’s say Player A finished an entire dungeon path solo, and now has the last boss at 1%. If he wanted to, he could attack the boss once, and have his reward. However, he COULD invite people to his party to receive credit for the entire path right at the end of the run, but he would not benefit from doing this at all.

Now, let’s say he announces that he is giving out the path completion reward for FREE, to a large audience. This creates what we call a supply and demand. Right now, the supply is four open spots. The problem is, who wouldn’t want free gold and tokens? I would! As would everybody else. Now, we have a very large demand for this, which is more than four people.

Obviously, Player A can’t satisfy the demands of the masses. He isn’t going to just solo the dungeon over and over again until everyone is happy! Secondly, how would that be fair to him? He is doing all the work by himself, and not getting any increased reward. Just as, for example, a plumber in the real world would charge money for his services, Player A starts to charge money for admission into his party.

Going back to the plumber, let’s say he isn’t charging anything. Who wouldn’t want someone to fix their toilet for free? However, we all know that no plumbers are free. Now, since he is charging money, some people with the know-how would forego paying the plumber and simply fix the toilet themselves. However, others, like I, have no idea how to fix a toilet, and do not enjoy the idea of messing around with one. I would pay the plumber for his services.

Similarly, some people with the skills and time to complete the dungeon would forego paying Player A and complete the path normally with a party of five. However, there are others who admit that they are not skilled enough to complete the dungeon, or simply do not have the time to sit through it start to finish. If these people feel that the dungeon tokens are worth the cost (which let’s say is the 15 gold you mentioned earlier) they will pay for the entry into Player A’s group.

Now, in the real world, once you pay the plumber, you can be pretty sure he’s going to fix your toilet. However, in Guild Wars 2, scammers are out there, and there is a chance that he could simply kick you from the party after you pay. To my experience, these people are few and far between, and some dungeon solo’ers are willing to accept payment after the completion of the path, and some are willing to do 50% before and 50% after. Despite this risk, there are still many people who are willing to pay someone to complete a dungeon path for them.

In the end, yes, this is allowed. It is your choice whether to buy a path, or simply form another group to complete it normally. Arenanet has stated that dungeon selling is okay.

Because basicly he may do alot of Gold, as he gets 15 Gold per player, 4 players = 60 Gold..

Question. Did you, maybe, not read his lfg post when you joined? People are allowed to sell and if you arent interested maybe you shouldnt of joined the group.

I would have no problems if dungeons had a solo OPTION with down_scaled loot and, obviously without the ability to then sell party slots for ridiculous amounts of gold.

You did not read his LFG advertisement or joined without understanding what he asked and you come to the forums. Wow. Im impressed.
Why soloing instances wouldnt be allowed? If he manages to do it, good for him. Dungeons are made in a way that basically every meaningful reward pops up after the endboss is killed, so its a win-win situation for everyone.
Exploits on the other hand of course …
But if you are familiar with the dungeon itself, you can check it yourself that the opener did all the hardwork (waypoints are open or not) or glitched through it.

Well the only one saying it should be is you.

I think that if a player is capable enough they should be able to solo, just how you can solo instances in WoW or BAMs in Tera.

It’s not an exploit just because you don’t believe people should be able to solo.

They way you spoke suggested that you think it should be considered an exploit.

In fact what I actually suggested was it was only possible due to poor design.

Arah and some fractals are honestly the best designed instances in the game – so no I’d hardly call it poor design at all, just that people have learned how to beat fights solo.

The content is old, not poorly designed or easy. The vast majority of the PvE community still will go nowhere near Arah even in groups while some are able to legit solo it while having a cup of tea.

Feeling jealous of people who’ve spent hours and hours of their lives mastering these encounters to be able to exchange their abilities for in-game currency is just silly.
To be honest they should even get rid of all the phases of dungeons that require more than 1 player to complete to further incentivise people to solo them and hone their skills.

It’s hilarious because I was having a cup of tea while soloing abom in p2 and forgot to evade his jump aoe thing and I spilled some of my tea on my keyboard
