Am I the only one missing old fractals?
I don’t miss them at all. It took a committed group any time you wanted to get the rewards. Now, I do more fractals and my guildies/friends that only like the occasional island do more, too — I can always get one more person to join for one more fractal. Now, the only limiting factor is AR, which is a one-time issue that I can actually help people to deal with.
I miss them, on other hand it’s no longer dc on 4th map = lost 1 hour.
I don’t really mind/care since I do all three T4 fractals in one session, so it’s really the same pre-HoT.
Except that Mai Trin is more of a sponge and is kind of annoying if your team sucks.
There are certain aspects of the old fotm setup that I definitely miss – in fact, I would agree with the OP that I miss all of those aspects of the old fotm, plus I miss having instabilities that would appear based only on scale instead of map.
But it was far from perfect. There are plenty of things I definitely don’t miss:
- Rolling swamp first every single time
- Disconnects were much more punishing
- Some maps came up way more than others
- Only 3 boss scales with huge differences in time and difficulty that you have to fight every time
- You needed underwater ascended gear (in theory at least)
- Probably other stuff I forgot
I definitely wouldn’t mind some kind of similar system to the old one with some of the issues fixed, but in my mind the pros far outweigh the cons for the new system and I’m happy with it overall. Besides, I’m pretty sure that everyone would rather just see new fractals than another rework of existing content.
No, I can’t say that I miss them. I actually find that I do them more now than I ever did previously because I can pick one up, here or there, if I don’t have time, or don’t feel like doing a lot of them. And then there’s none of the constant rerolling for swamp or whatever either. You know exactly what you’re going in to do based on the level you’ve selected.
The original iterations of high level fractals were like a kitten dive bar adored by its regulars that turned hipster. Sure the service is better, the beer is colder and the bathroom isn’t a hell hole anymore, but the nostalgia and atmosphere are gone.

One more thing to note, before to go up one personal fract lvl, the person had to do 4 maps, now it’s only one. People can spam molten duo to get lvl 100 and never touch other maps until they pop up in dailies. Very annoying to do lvl 99 and see people dying cos they have no idea jumping over waves works.
I don’t miss them.
