Arah Path 3 Hot Potato
[CERN] – Tarnished Coast
It has not changed any. If you toss it with the circle right on the person it comes up short. You have to line circle up with the person and put it past them. The easiest approach is just to have your team make a spread line, stand still until you get it, and run to the next person and throw it with the circle completely past the person.
Forget about the AoE Targeting circle. In my experience, the person you’re throwing to has to be in the exact middle of it for it to count. Might as well just think of it as a single-target ability.
Do you even lift, bro?
Go play kegbrawl. Best practice for that particular dungeon mechanic you can find.
Saladtha (Lv 80 salad sidekick to bears) | Dunelle (Lv 80 eviscerating muppet)
Karmell (Lv 80 human might dispenser) | Vast says hi~.
Throw past the person. That’s how my groups do it. Never had any problems if you aim past the person for whom you are aiming. Also, personally, I find that it helps to check the option for “Fast Casting Ground Targeting” (or whatever it is called) in the options menu.
You can easily do all the “Hot Potato” sections of Arah with two people.

AoE Targeting circle? you mean to say.. you don’t use smartcast?! (a.k.a. “Fast Casting Ground Targeting” )
I’ve never actually seen this ran with players all the way through, and I’m a Dungeon Master. I’m also a Mesmer so I just grab the light, slap my exit Portal down, & warp right to the goal. I’d assume it works like Keg Brawl, as mentioned above, but if you got a Mesmer, no reason to actually try it like normal. lol
Somewhat related- I would love to see a ‘PvP’ game mode of this (much like Keg Brawl) except each team is on their own randomly generated maze (kinda like the Swamp Fractal, but doesn’t change during the round) and the first team to bring their ball to the end scores 100 points; first to 5 wins (like presents in the Snowball mode).
Also disable all skills.
Don’t throw at people’s feet, throw past them. You don’t throw a ball in real life at someone’s feet, you throw at their hands’ height.
Hmm.. Thank you for the replies! I recently turned off smart cast so that I could better see where I was AoEing on walls in WvW. It makes sense that this change has affected my impression. TY sirs.
