So I was running AC Story on an under Lv.30 alt of mine, and upon killing whats-his-face and his band of Ascalonian Ghosts, there was no chest spawned for me at all. I shrugged this off as I didn’t hit the damage threshold due to getting killed (because I wasn’t sure which direction of the area we were sweeping up the mobs, that was pretty funny all right).
However when we went to go kill Nente, I was doing a surprising amount of damage (mostly through conditions) and my team & I definitely saw that I was a big help to the fight. Though when he died, no chest spawned. Same as with Kasha Boringblood; my team was pelting her with boulders while I stacked up conditions and practically solo’d her while she was spending the whole fight enjoying her deluxe feast of soil & rocks… No chest for me yet again. I didn’t expect to get a chest from the Lovers because I had boulder duty & that fight always manages to kill me.
I was definitely not weighing the team down (I believe the general consensus was that I ended up being more useful than the Lv.33 Guardian we had along), so I wouldn’t exactly say that I was carried through the dungeon. I was also doing enough damage on all the mobs to get loot from them, so I was doing noticeable damage.

So with all that in mind I can’t help but think dungeon chests are level-dependent instead of based on contribution to the boss fight. I don’t think there’s much way to confirm this besides a dev post, since the Kasha fight I had was practically all me (aside from the knockdown-stravaganza).
If this is indeed the case, whatever happened to “If lower leveled players decide to try to challenge themselves, they’ll be rewarded too”? I had brought some great utility to the group and provided lots of nice conditions (and so many revives), but I’m not allowed to get my share of vendor trash just because my level wasn’t matching their
recommendation? That just seems silly.

What’s your take on this? Do you guys think it’s my fault for trying to push myself for an exciting dungeon experience, or do you think they should take another look at how dungeon chests are awarded?

Well, that seems pretty silly.
If they’re gonna do that, at least change “recommended level: ##” to “minimum level: ##” or something so it can discourage people from trying to have fun in them at lower levels.

Well, at least you get some sizable EXP from each run I guess.
