Are all of them like that? - Swampland -
I don’t know. The first time I ran the Swamp fractal, 4 of us has not done it, but a 5th guildie has, and he patiently explained to us all what was up. We finished it in like 5 minutes. When we killed it, I was like “seriously, that was it?”
For some reason, groups either find it impossible or very simple/easy. My first fractal run had Swamplands as our third fractal and it was absolutely impossible. We had fast classes using haste, I was a mesmer trying to use portal (which did not work for some reason), it just couldn’t happen after over an hour of trying.
For newer dungeon runners it is a problem. I HIGHLY suggest ANet move Swamp/Dredge fractal to at least 5+ on level scale as it isn’t very newbie friendly.
There really is only one “swamp” style fractal, the next closest is Dredge for newbie pains.

I agree about swampland, but I did the dredge one when everyone in my group including myself had never done it before. We figured it out pretty easily

More than move the “level” would be better reduce the trap number on lower level, increasing going deeper. Makes a sense, a player will have a learning curve and more challenge doing this fractal, not stressed as a beginner, enjoying when mastered.
I decided to give fractials a chance, first one I got was Swampland. We had no mezmer in the group. After an hour of trying we gave up. The experience ruined my evening and all desire to play GW2.
I played a lot of dungeons in my time, and this one is By Far The Most Annoying dungeon I have ever been to in any MMO. Traps. Passages that close on you. Poison and bleed.
I don’t know what you could possibly do to make it more annoying, maybe add undead clowns?
by the way, no, not all fractals are this hard. most of them are pretty fun actually

1) decide with your team who will go where, you could go 2,2,1 with 2 ppl on the furthest one to help out and the other to only run
2) swap your utility skills and weapon to things that give speed, block attacks, stealth, teleport or other useful mechanics… (like condition removal for the criple) learn your class and it’s possiblities
3) you shouldn’t really need to kill a single mob
4) not needed but it helps: let the class with most speed and easy skills for this dungeon take the most far one (generally a mesmer with teleport or elementalist)
5) call for ready when everyone is in a safe spot near the wasp they have to take
6) let someone count down who doesn’t need to retrieve a wasp, then take it out all at the same time and run to the deposit place
7) while running to the deposit place look at the ground and avoid traps, jumping all the time is a big help here and can make you do it almost with your eyes closed
8) closed walls and other vines can very often be jumped over, learn how you can do this by trying it out first before any timers are triggered
9) if you are the first one at the deposit, wait to place your wasp untill you know from what side the last person is comming, it migt save him a few seconds if the closest one to him isn’t filled up yet… as long as you put it in there eventually within the time
I really don’t understand how much people are failing at this. Clearly shows that the previous game content and dungeons weren’t challenging enough at all to require a basic understanding of the deeper class mechanics. I even see people at lvl 11 fractals being carried through the whole thing by their team up untill there where it really shows if there’s 1 person in your group failing at kiting & dodging some attacks at bosses. Step up your game, it’s really rewarding if you get better at it and you have a nice good team that explains you what you should do.
My usual group actually chants “Swampland” when we enter a new set of Fractals in the hopes of having a super quick one. We can blow through there in 5 minutes or less.
- Communication is amazing. Who’s going to what wisp? Does everyone have their utilities set and off cooldown?
- Patience. The walls don’t immediately change when you pick up the wisps. They change on a set time. Wait until the walls change right before grabbing, that way you know the path.
- Some of the walls can be run over by nearby rocks.
- Every class can run the wisps with ease. The excuse of “I don’t have those skills in my build” is pointless as you can swap the skills for running, and swap them back afterwards before the boss.
- Mesmers can Blink and Portal.
- Thieves can Shadowstep into the wisp and Shadow Return back out from a good distance while running with Signet of Shadows.
- Warriors can use Dolyak Signet & Balanced Stance with Signet of Rage to run the whole map while ignoring traps.
- Rangers can Rampage as One and and do the same.
- Elementalists can Lightning Flash and use Mist Form through traps while using the Trait that increases speed or just the Signet of Air
- Necromancers can Spectral Walk from a good distance and then Spectral Recall back.
- Engineers can just use Elixir X.
- Guardians can use “Stand Your Ground!” and pass traps with ease.
TLDR; Swamp is easy, communicate better with pugs.

That’s strange, everyone in my groups loves this place because it’s so easy.
