Ascalonian Catacombs - This was ment to be hard?
Ha! Still that doesn’t change the fact I feel strongly that the dungeons should NOT be nerfed. It’s one of the things that killed WoW for me.
Your opinion has been noted.
AC is kitten easy compared to the hard dungeons story and explorer mode are
faceroll
My view of dungeons is that while there almost impossible for a group of glass cannons if you go at the built to handle the different roll’s they have a nice challenge to them without just being stupidly hard. Also while compaired to most mmo’s 5 deaths might not seem like much the point in my eyes is to not die. All to often anymore people dont care about death. I grew up in the age of mmo’s where if you died you paid for it. There were corpse runs and if you got so stupid you could not survive it might as well be game over as one death was basically a nerf to your character by 20% or more. Today’s crowd doesent care if they die because theres no penalty to such. When i hit 80 i was shocked when i heard of people in the 50 to 60 range with over 200 deaths. At 80 i had slightly over 50. Even now that i’ve been 80 for a little while im only at a total of 81 deaths. Yet i hear of people doing 20-30 deaths a dungeon. Makes me think they need to slow down and look at there character again.
Well I feel like at the same time I shouldn’t have to completely redo my specialization to be able to do dungeons, to the point that there will only be a handful of viable builds that probably don’t conform enough to how I do things to be enjoyable. More importantly, even at level cap I might not have bought all the “right” skills for my profession, or carry around all the “right” weapons to use. I should be expected to provide some group assistance that’s expected of my profession (like combo fields), but I shouldn’t be pigeonholed into something specific.
And a group of 5 casters should be just as successful as any other “optimal” profession makeup.
Why should AC be nerfed…? Is it because its lvl 30 content…? Strange:( Last time I went to AC my lvl was scaled down…must mean all dungeons are made equally as hard…
. . . although there are exceptions it seems, but I dont see a valid excuse to make one dungeon easier than the other because its made for lower lvl players. Ultimately if one dungeon gets scaled down, the next dungeon is put up on the list. Where people complain, there is this dungeon at lvl 30 thats easy but why is the lvl 40 dungeon so hard???

It’s an ease of progression thing. The difficulty curve needs to be climbable but still scales up high enough to be a challenge.
When someone walks into AC for the first time, all they have in terms of combat experience will be off normal mobs, veterans, or the occasional boss type. They have some expectations on how to fight. But if just the trash can put you down faster than most champions mobs, with a move that is telegraphed like a regular attack, that’s just going to surprise them with a repair bill instead of properly introducing the fact that these mobs are going to be dangerous and here is what they can do so you can be prepared to survive it.
Chuck a newbie into a pit of hell. Only 2 things will happen.
1. Newbie* rages. Becomes Noob**.
2. Newbie learns. Becomes Pro.
*Newbies are players that are new to the system, and do not have any or much experience in the area in question.
**Noobs are players that know how to do things, but just do it in a stupid way.

Awww, the poor game wont hold your hand for you Asterisk? Sucks having to learn things on your own?
Not to be a geezer here, but back in my day, games didnt always have to tell you how to do things for you. Mario Bros. didnt always tell me how to jump, and which obstacles to avoid. Part of the challenge was figuring out yourself. Bummer….
Well, you go right ahead and keep dying in your dungeon runs Asterisk.
As for myself, me and my group will keep blowing through all explore modes (yes, even both burrow event ones. In fact, they are the only things right now in AC EM that even pose somewhat of a challenge to us now. Everything else is cake). Just got my Legendary weapon seal yesterday, btw!
Also, let me drop a nugget of wisdom on you: Those trash mobs, do you ever bother to read the description of their abilities? You know the ones that say ‘Leap Knockdown..’? Now, what prevents knockdowns, or even breaks you out of knockdowns? Perhaps the stability effect? Hmm… interesting… I wonder what you can do with that…
AC might not be exceptionally difficult, but it’s certainly not fun either.
That’s because Mario was a WELL DESIGNED GAME. You start World 1-1. Where do you go? Right, because that’s all you can do. Hey that Goomba is moving towards you, you have two buttons, try one. Hey, one is jump. And then you build the rest of the game from there. But they didn’t throw Hammer Bro’s or The Sun at you at that point, those were held off till the latter half of the game.
More importantly, when you figure out how to play SMB, you have a feeling you’ve overcame something and feel better about it.
If I’m going to die to something, make it something I can see coming, not something I’m going to be blindsided with.
Really death isn’t a big issue in this game. It’s the recovery time afterwards and how it drags each run out for so long if we’re not perfectly prepared for it.
While you obviously can’t re-spec in the middle of a dungeon you can change weapons, skills and major talents out of combat. You’ll probably notice I did this a few times during the video (And then stuffed up using them correctly!)
Ascalonian Catacombs explorer mode became "unfun’ about 2/3 way through. An even mix of casual gamers in a pick-up group and we all felt that it was a chore, a grind, and nothing more. We didn’t feel rewarded at the end, just relieved that it was finally over. Sure, we gained a large amount of xp and “tears” and some loot, but most of us had a net loss of silver from armor repairs.
In summary, it was fun at the beginning, but became tedious and frustrating when we realized that we were the weakest creatures in the dungeon. I think it’s just ever so slightly too tough to be fun for many people.
