Ascended armor? Really worth it?
Its completely down to whether you think its worth it or not. Ive gotten a set on my warrior and my necro so far. I will probably do guardian and ele eventually. But ive stopped doing daily damask or w/e.
I was working on a set of armor, gathering resources making damask and what not. I haven’t actually made a piece of gear yet. I’ve put that on hold after hearing that they are going to do something to, or about berserker gear. See who says procrastination is always bad?
It is a terrible coincidence that they announced this a few weeks after ascended armor was unleashed up on us.
I plan to make 3 pieces of assassins to mix up with my exotic berserker ones to get more crit chance. But I’m an ele.

http://dulfy.net/2013/12/12/gw2-ascended-armor-stats/ this help with seeing the stats difference, the difference is about 5% in most cases. But it can probably reach something like 10% once you fully upgrade them with Versatile mighty/precise infusion.
I’d say slowly work toward it on your main. If you don’t have a main, don’t bother until they come out with a different way to get them.
As for zerker getting “fixed” I wouldn’t base my assumption on that. I still think Zerker will stay as the meta even after they try to fix it, but if you’re scared you can wait until they give more information.
I just finished a full set for my main but not going to bother gearing alts with ascended stats. The difference is too minimal to justify the amount of money it takes to create a full set.
Too phacking expensive and time gated. Chances of me getting a full set of zerk/sin gear for 3-5 characters as drops within a few months of doing (multiple)fractal clears daily are just about 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%(accurate estimate).

Not worth it. Especially when it still came out and the mats have exploded in price.
I wouldn’t hurry on getting them. Wait til the price have dropped enough. Linen scraps already dropped to 4s atm when it was 6.5s just 2 weeks ago.
Not really worth it for stats alone, maybe for infusions slots in Fractals/WvWvW.
When they start the infusion slot grind (+5 stats now, +7 next, then +10, etc.) you’re going to have to have them as only Ascended gear has infusion slots.
Also having ascending armor will increase the chance of you getting targeted by a boss. It doesn’t make too much of an impact in pug groups, but I feel it makes running with other zerkers more difficult.

That is quiet useful info, thanks.
And thanks others, i’ll sit on my 1k gold for now then.
Use that gold to make a legendary and sell it for more gold.

The meta is changing at an alarming rate!
Always worth it, it’s a stat upgrade.
What else are you going to spend it on? Oh yes, something that doesn’t affect your character’s capability whatever.

From what I hear, not really. It’s a miniscule upgrade for a VERY high cost. However, if you enjoy getting the “absolute best” equipment, and you have nothing else you want to buy, then why not? But the bottom line is you can do very well with just Exotics. (I’d go so far to say that Rares are also adequate. Maybe even greens, although that’s pushing it.)
No, unless you want to go high level fractals and need agony resistance. However, ascended trinkets are very worth it…
I’m in the same line with Fext.
Unless you want to run high level fractals and didn’t already have 50 or 55 AR from trinkets and weapons (or 70+ when you want to do lvl 50) I would refrain from building it. Or at least pace yourself doing so because there’s absolutely no rush.
The only other truly viable reason imho is “because I want to” for whatever reason that might be. Mine was “I can” and I want to maximise at least one toon. But mostly “I can”.
Another might be that you want to have the slight advantage if you do a lot of WvW solo roaming. It might actually win you the day in a close fight against some who knows what they are doing about as well as you do in such a case.
you may keep them to rear new and interesting variants in your basement.
Since Ascended Weapons were introduce i saved all the silk i got, buy Cotton, Linen and Wools while there were lower in price. I had barely enough Silk to craft my first armor (zerker for my main Guardian). I still have enough Cotton for a second full armor, but linen and wools i only have enough for about half a armor.
So in the end, making my first ascended armor didn’t cost me a things (except for recipe and material that you need to buy from the Vendor). I’m glad I did because in the future for Fractal i’ll need the extra AR and even if its small its still a stats increase. But frankly i don’t see any difference while playing between zerker exotic and zerker ascended armor. Ya i hit a bit harder, but not enough harder to make real change that I can see while i’m playing. I did it for fractal and because i already had enough material. I’ll probably craft a second ascended armor for WvW but this will take forever because i won’t buy any silk and right now i get enough silk to make a damask each 3-4 days. I’ll eventually will get my second armor, like in 3-4 months, but i don’t really care since this doesn’t really change anything for me. In the end, craft an ascended armor if you have most material, if you want to go higher in Fractal (but you won’t need your armor until the next fractal update and we don’t when this will happen) or if you really want that new shiny things that cost a lot. If you don’t fall into one of these 3 categories i don’t see why you should got with ascended armor.
The reality is having a full set of ascended armor versus exotic gives you 14 power, 11 precision, and 1% crit damage, which is then scaled down in lower level dungeons making it even more trivial. A Plate of Steak and Asparagus costs under 1 silver and gives you 80 power and 60 precision, and the minority of players I see in dungeons will even use that.

How much agony resistance gives you that Plate of Steak?
Let’s put it this way. If you already run both consumables and utilities, and you have your max gear specced already, it’s worth it in the very long run, especially for fractals.
But if you don’t use food, save money on the Asc, buy a lot of food, and use the food/utility buffs. They will give you WAY more stats than the Asc-Exo gap gives you.
