Ascended armor making dungeon armor obsolete
I’d love it if this happened. Someone mentioned this in the CDI topic, and I think the dev said they were looking into it. I suggest putting stuff like this into that thread, as it will get more attention and might actually be implemented.

And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.
Then we could charge more for path selling!
I’m not sure how to move the thread there, and I wouldn’t want to double post.
Another idea would be to award something like a path token. So you get a token for completing a dungeon path, then when you have enough tokens from all 3 paths of a dungeon, you can toss them into the mystic forge along with a piece of dungeon armor of that dungeon for an ascended piece. This would kill two birds with one stone, in that it would provide people an alternate route to ascended, as well as promoting the dungeon paths no one wants to run. How often do you see someone running Path 2 of AC as compared to Path 3 these days?
AC3 has that stupid time gate that puts people to sleep so… p2 > p3…
SE2 on the other hand…
Ugh SE 2…… Nearly rage quit that one as everyone in my party was in mumble making jokes and not paying attention to those stupid golems. I think we accidentally succeeded. Happy accidents.

ConntectToReality, this is a terrible idea. There is a reason why some dungeon path are never ran by most people. Its because they have terrible flaw. AC path 2 bug on a regular basis since the launch of the game. Its a shame because its one of my favorite path of the dungeon with the trap sequence. Once they fix if for good and for real (because they failed at fixing it about 10 times), then now people will run all 3 AC path.
SE Path 2 is just so freaking long. And not long fighting, you need to wait so long for a NPC to walk to the other side of the room, pick up a rock, then go back to the door to open it. And every time mobs appear the NPC run 30 feet forward, fight them with you and then go back 30 feet backward before restarting his slow walk to the rock. Don’t push people to complete bad content and bad design, just fix it and they will all come to play it.

For doing it at least once a week, I’ve encountered this bug once. But if I remember right, we had to get the NPC killed by a mob to unbug it.
That bug can also occur for Arah P3 if the NPC is killed right after the cutscene when he’s about to take the undead chicken in a cage (before the last boss). You can also unbug it by getting it killed by the spiders.
Ideally, arenanet would fix the dungeon bugs, and I’ve come across people who don’t run a path, not because it’s bugged, but because they can’t do a speed run. I could come up with a whole list of things I’d like to change in dungeons, but that’s besides the point of my original post.
What I’m trying to get across, will there be an alternative method to get ascended gear for those of us who prefer running dungeons to crafting. I simply tried to provide some solutions I view as viable options to this issue I’m having.
They’re currently discussing that exact thing in the thread I posted. You really ought to at least read the last couple pages.

good idea… but I’d bet nothing like this will be implemented for quite a while — otherwise, we’d see a lot of rage from people who grinded out their Ascended via crafting.
Personally, I don’t trust that Anet won’t add another tier of gear (or raise the level cap, which is even worse), so I’m going to skip Ascended armor and probably go for Legendary armor to escape any future grind.
haven’t read the other thread yet.. but i don’t it’s fair to say that dungeon armor is obsolete. it’s still great gear. and aesthetics is something else as well. there doesn’t have to be only extremes in the game. plus, i don’t think any player in full ascended armor is automatically >>>> any player in full exotics.
that being said, i do see where you’re coming from. but perhaps, it’s not as grim as you make it out to be.
the only BIG difference i can see between ascended and exotic, for PvE, is if you are competitvely going for world records, or going for fractals and need all the AR you can get. do enlighten me if i missed anything, though : ))

I’m not a fan of making things significantly harder to earn. But if Ascended gear can be gotten through dungeons, dungeons would need a serious revamp. Most dungeons can be done trivially with exotic gear now, and there are less than a handfull of “hard” dungeons.
Ascended Armor is not significantly better than exotic gear. It is made for top min/maxers to sink their gold in, and for the casuals to slowly grind it out.
I’m all for getting Ascended in Dungeons, but it would have to be well planed with new armor models as incentive and some sort of gold sink(less than current craft sink but enough to not de-stablise the market).

A lot of it is psychological. Once you have your ascended set, there’s a psychological barrier to going back to exotics. This is really bad if Anet wants to encourage you to try new builds.
wonder when legendary armor will come around – switching of stats would be awesome. then just arises another first world Tyrian problem – skins and runes. DDDD:

Decided to search about that before answering. The numbers below are from lvl 80 zerker light head armor
Rare armor stats:
- Defense: 65
- Power: 40
- Precision: 28
- Crit damage: 2%
Exotic armor stats:
- Defense: 73
- Power: 45
- Precision: 32
- Crit damage: 2%
Ascended armor stats:
- Defense: 77
- Power: 47
- Precision: 34
- Crit damage: 2%
OK, as you can see, there’s some difference between rare and exotic. If you compare chest armor, the difference is a bit bigger, but from exotic to ascended, this difference is ridiculous against from rare to exotic
So 1) Ascended armor is extremely expensive to craft and time-gated. 2) The stats difference does not make it worth expending the money. 3) Now that you can fuse AR infusions, there’s no more need for extra infusion slots
Answering your question: no, exotic is still viable; and I don’t see ascended armor as dungeon reward right now, it’d take more balance in its gold/reward for that
