Ascended gear - fractal pages
Some guy did the math on reddit, it’s like 20% less to use the marks than it is to craft it. Imo the system is still not good enough. If you don’t raid, and you don’t get ascended drops, it is better than straight up crafting, but it’s still not that enticing.
The fact a thread like this exists should be an indicator to the fractals devs that the reward scheme is too complicated.

The cost of just about anything is too complicated for most people. It’s not that hard to use GW2 efficiency or GW2 BLTC to compare prices, if you want.
The difference, however, isn’t mostly in the TP costs; it’s in which mats are needed.
- Traditional crafting requires a blend of T2-4 and T5 cloths, leathers, and metals, whereas Fractal/PvP requires far more T5.
- Traditional crafting requires a single ‘activator’ for the stat (e.g. powerful blood or maguuma lilly), whereas the marks require a blend of fine T6 mats.
That means, for the average fractaller or PvPer, it’s easier — they are less likely to need to buy stuff on the TP or keep a separate L53 character to open champ bags for the T4 mats.
The actual cost difference will vary with the market.
tl;dr the new system favors people who care about gathering their own mats (or using hoarded mats in storage) rather than those who want to optimize their cost saving. New system uses more stuff that L80 toons typically end up gathering, so it’s often simpler.

This is not constant. At times its more expensive to craft marks than it is to just straight up craft your ascended gear.
It’s really on a per-item basis.
Example:
I’m after a medium Chest piece. Crafting it from scratch will cost me ~110 gold vs “Mark crafting” will cause the price to drop to 86g. However, based on my owned materials it’ll actually only cost me ~5 gold to craft the Chest piece from scratch but will cost me 15g to acquire the remaining material I need to craft the marks.
So, it really boils down to what you’re trying to get and what material you already have in your possession.
Here’s a more detailed analysis I did of the material requirements for the two methods.

If you want to skip the Wall o’ Text, you can go straight to the comparison:

Not complaining about having to craft x components to make y components to make z item. I’m complaining about content in this game that literally has at least 5 different unique currencies as rewards (relics, pristine relics, golden relics, research pages, matrices). But even that isn’t enough because you have to spend them with crafting materials in this case.
Compare to dungeons
-rewards are loot, gold and 1 specific currency per dungeon.
Compare to raids
-rewards are loot, gold, and 1 specific currency for all of raids.
Side note: notice how fractals are the only of the 3 that don’t use the wallet for all of its currencies.
What fractals could be:
-rewards are loot, gold, and fractal relics. You can buy stuff (such as crafting materials) with fractal relics.
The one thing that is worth to mention is that fractal pages needed for token crafting come from daily numbered fractals. Those are generally not worth doing. Unless you need the pages, that is.
So, unlike other cases, you won’t get the currency needed to buy ascended stuff from doing the content as usual.
