Beating Vale only gives 8 Magnetite Shards?
Oh look! Another kitten thread regards to raid rewards! I agree that they should make some minor changes on the time gate of the reward system. Dungeons are already gone and high level fractals are pointless to do…These are the core contents of gw2 PVE imo. I’m not the people who like to farm silverwaste and press 111111 to have fun^_^
I beat Vale Guardian for the first time today, from the fails this week I accumulated 40 shards, and upon beating him I got.. 8? THAT’S IT? I was expecting, I dunno, at least 30 or so.
8 is abysmal. On top of my 1 exotic. It was really fun, and I wasn’t doing it for the rewards, but hearing the devs talk about great rewards in the streams and POI before HoT is a joke. I feel lied to.
Yeah, you kinda deserve it if by 3 years you still keep falling for Colin’s impish-faced hype.
This is how they function. Prior to a box sale all the devs show up and become active in the forums, along with the hype train. Balance changes happen every other weekend.
And then they get your money from the box sales and vanish to the nether. Nothing happens until every other 6 months, the exception being the gem store fashion tehy release every other week or month.
Shards are not dungeon tokens.
The intended method of raid rewards is boss RNG, not token purchases. The tokens are intended to be supplemental so that if you have horrible luck you can still get what you want, not the primary means of getting your drops as they are in dungeons.
Basically, you’re supposed to repeat the raid to get your desired item as a drop, not buy it with shards. The shards exist simply as a meansure to keep you from totally giving up hope if your luck is really bad.
Whether this is a better system or not is debatable, but they were pretty straightforward that this was the way they intended the system to work.

You need 700 magnetite shards for reasonable reward. Then 8 is crazy low. Honeslty even with the double gold gain, raids are by far the worst time investment to ‘get something cool’ in the game now. There’s other better ways atm.
RNG is the looser here. 2 people get ascended drop (yaaaaay). Others: ? Screw you, you will have to farm vale guardian 80 times (over 7 weeks cause cap), otherwise you wont get your ascended drop.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
If you’re doing raids to get profit out if it don’t and just leave. Be happy they give you the option to buy the unique raid drops in X weeks (since shards are capped at 105 per week) and not just have it all be drops.
Raid rewards hold a certain “prestige” to them cuz not everyone can clear them and as such are things to be appreciated as a reward for your time spent wiping hours on end. If you thought “oh let’s make a quick few 100 gold” you’ve been mislead my friend.
I’m at a point where i can clear the raid in 1 day, i’m still not capped out on my weekly shard cap but through rerunning bosses for other ppl in the guild that didn’t kill it yet this week i’ll get the shards in time.
I’ve gotten 2 mini gorsevals (yea, idk what to do with the second one, i can’t just destroy it that just doesn’t feel right) a gorseval ascended legging (medium) a red vale guardian and that’s it for special loot. That’s the kind of loot you wanna do raids for (tbh just for the fun and difficulty would be the best reason to do raids) not for the 1 random exotic you get each kill.
I don’t think it’s about making money so much as a reasonable reward for the effort put in.
Off the top of my head i can think of varrying ways to acquire 1 exotic….
I can only think of 2 ways to get the unique (account bound) skins that come from raids. RNG and an Excessive wait. That’s including the fact that this is under double rewards. So naturally we’d be getting 4 shards. Let that sink in real quick.
The shards are on the low side, even lower than they should be with double the rewards.
That said it really should be a significantly higher for all bosses with a bonus upon total completion that week. Then the cap should be removed for successful kills, leaving only the amount of failed rewards capped to 105 weekly.
That’s including the fact that this is under double rewards. So naturally we’d be getting 4 shards. Let that sink in real quick.
Only gold and xp is doubled, shards are consistent.

If that’s the case then i misread the blog.
Even still, i stand by the fact that for beating hard content getting 1 exotic and 1 rare + bags and 8 shards is rather lame. The option to purchase the cooler stuff is a nice feature, if only it was feasible to do in the same relative time as completing a full raid wing.

Of course it’s lame. It’s intended.
The whole reward scheme in this game is that of a Free 2 Play game, garbage baseline rewards to drive a gold-centric economy that encourages people to convert gems to gold.
Whatever is not accessible by gold is gated behind either large, time gated grinds or garbage RNG to keep you logged on to the game for a long time so you’re more likely to make gem store purchases.
I don’t know what you people were expecting of a game with no subscription model.
Does anyone have any idea what the red thing is supposed to be? I got a pop-up saying I had hit the weekly cap of magnetite, but I still got magnetite.
The problem I have is the fact that clearing the whole wing won’t get you your weekly cap. What then? Are we supposed to fail bosses on purpose just to reach the cap?

Yeah, you know not everything is as grim or as negative as you want to make it out to be. If you hate the game so much that all you can do is bash it as opposed to offering decent feedback, log out contact support and get a refund.
The problem with raids has nothing to do with micro-transactions or the current economic instability. The currency is earned solely in raids. It would stand to reason that either the unique raid rewards would be more frequent, or if they are rare alternate means of acquisition would be more time feasible.

Killing Sabetha gives you the maximum amount of shards.

You’re sure about this? Also, does it matter if you kill Sabetha only?

No, you’re supposed to be able to run the raids again for a reward while helping/joining people who didn’t get their kills that week. This is a good thing.

I’m not sure if you only need to kill Sabeta, or if you need to kill all bosses.
But if you go in, kill Vale Guardian, Gorseval, then Sabetha, then Sabetha will give you max shards.

Okay, that’s strange cause someone complained they didn’t reach shard cap despite killing all bosses. Well, thanks for the info, anyways.

This.
I sorta of thought this was obvious from the way they designed the shard bonus in raids.

If you kill all 3 you get about half of the cap(with no failures).
Fail the first event after Vale Guardian repeatedly for the fastest and easiest shards possible.
