Warrior is probably the go to class and very similar to most warrior classes in other MMOs. Very straightforward and easy to play.

Ranger also works very well, the pet provides a nice addition to survival and damage in open world pve.

Thief rounds up the end with it’s high movement. Pistol 5 provides very high aoe blind for open world pve. Bit squishy otherwise until you get a grip on dodging attacks of enemys. Then again better learn sooner than later.

EDIT:
Classes to probably avoid: Mesmer, Elementalist, Engineer

Most important though, makes sure you are enjoying your class. if you are unhappy, switch and try out another. The classes all play quite differently and there is no point in sticking with one you don’t enjoy.

My adivice is ranger, early ge is very easy and in end game he is one of top tier dps and almost auto include healer in raids (druid spec). Also he is only one who can play raids withput elite so that meajs he wont be so dependant on new specializations in next expansion

I thought about warrior (easier mechanic and needed for might stacking l) but the reason why ranger won was because in next expansion might be better way to stack might. On the other hand ranger has spot in almost every raid reserved (druid) and also can be used wizhout druid as dps almost on same lvl as the highest damage profesions with elite spec (and they are much harder for beginer). That means that if new specializations are on same powerlvl as old ones he would still be competetive and if theyvare stronger he wold gain advantage because he is strong without oblne

While I find it admirable that people read up on classes and such, honestly if you are just starting out (and haven’t set your goal to power through to raids immediately with help of already existing players) I wouldn’t worry about raids.

Truth be told. By the time your first character hits 80 and you have a general understanding of the game (sufficient enough to raid) you’ll have either the tomes or the gold or both to instant level a new character to 80.

There is no point in making grand plans and running out of steam midway through (and even less plans around an expansion that is not even officially announced yet). Play whatever is fun to you because chances are if you don’t, you won’t stick long enough around to even get to raiding.

I wouldn’t reccomend engi even with that. The class has some issues, and people still don’t want it in pugs.

Still ranger is not the only class with a viable core spec build. I wouldn’t recommend engi either for a beginner, but your words read like “there is no other viable core build”.

Would suggest to ignore every speculations about classes after the next expansion, we have no way of knowing the future state of elites & core classes.

Pick the class you relate to the most, but keep in mind that Necro/Rev are not in the best state at the moment and could have trouble finding groups.

Necromancer: you just won’t die. You can make more mistakes then on any other profession. You can play both: condi (easiest) and power builds. Might not be the most wanted profession out there but for sure the safest one. Warrior is also a “safe mode” for beginners. Ranger only, if you really like pets, but you can expect very buggy AI on your pets.
Avoid Ele and Thief if you don’t want to sit in downed state 80% of the time:D Exception is d/d condi thief. Mesmer is also not beginners friendly class for pve.
