“Collections for the existing legendary weapons will be available on launch day, while the first three new legendaries will become available shortly after launch, alongside raids.”
That was taken from the blog about the legendaries. I was already disgusted that they made it out like they were time-gating content for us when really it’s because they couldn’t finish making the content for their given deadline but if I’m reading this correctly, none of the new legendaries or raids will be ready for launch?
Dude…its going to be like..two or three weeks. This is a non issue. There probably doing the exact same thing there doing with raids for the same reason. Because masteries will be necessary to make the collections possible to achieve. Just as the raid bosses are balanced around certain masteries being attained.
Edit: Youl need to play the game and gather masteries to get the legendary requirments anyway. I.E. the legendary crafting mastery?. There giving you time to get that before they unleash it.
Completely regret buying the expansion.. this is pathetic. It would be fine to make do with the situation if this was the free bi-weekly updates. This is a product we’ve paid for, its not ok for them to not deliver. This is ridiculous think about what you’ve paid for now, what is there on launch left that we have paid for.
People need to stop making excuses for them.. whether or not we’ll be able to finish the content required to start this stuff is irrelevant, it doesn’t justify having them not have to meet deadlines we have paid for.

Nothing to be in a fuss about IMO, it’s not like they were late donating organs to a patient or something causing his death. It’s just a game, if they’re releasing it late it means it probably still needs some polishing and stuff. Better than being sold a broken product.

Again, that’s just making excuses for them. As customers we should not have to choose between buggy or finished. An expansion is different from free updates, they are being paid to deliver a finished, non-buggy product. This is real money.
Anyway ugh no point ranting too much just need to hurry and find another game to move on to.
This sounds barely legal to be honest, its as if a game was launching and two weeks before release they said oh we haven’t finished making dungeons.. or world vs world we ‘promise’ we’ll release it a month after launch but it’s ok cos you won’t have levelled up enough for the content anyway, and meh we already have your money.

Thankfully the simultaneous Halloween release will occupy our minds elsewhere.

Wait, I thought we learnt to completely expect recycled content once again, have they said otherwise anywhere? Personally I’m expecting the opposite, they released HoT at that time so that we would be occupied enough to not complain about yet again recycled content for haloween.
No one knows if anything will be broken until launch this is a foolish statement to make that you cannot possibly prove or disprove.
I play for 10+ hours a day its entirely possible in less than a week I could be at that point with xp boosters ect.
There is always a ton of white knighting and apologists whenever someone makes a point that appears to discredit Anet practices in anyway, no matter how dumb some of them are.
They as a company are not perfect by any means and honestly almost every company has problems, but this is no reason to bring up pointless arguments when interacting with a disgruntled customer.
The general response is from most people, “if you don’t like it leave” which is, to be blunt the dumbest response ever.
If enough paying customers leave your game will suffer. I don’t agree with the releasing of legendarys or content in a trickle fashion.
Especially if your class cannot even use the weapons coming out, but on the other hand if we’re going to get rushed garbage i also would not be happy with that.
Sometimes during game development alot of things go wrong in a short window that create alot of set-backs. It shouldnt be passed along to customers ever but stuff happens.
@ Zetsumei It’s pretty common knowledge in this day/age that you don’t pre-order, let alone fully pre-purchase a game anymore unless you’re entirely sure you’re going to be playing it, regardless what happens or is offered.
If you have any doubts you should just wait till reviews from trusted sources come out after its launch before rushing to purchase. Anet does let you buy those preorder goodies from the gemstore at later dates too which is pretty fair.
It is a double edged sword because in mmo’s time matters, especially if you are looking to be competitive in anyway.
That being said you are entitled to feel crappy about the practices regardless what anyone else says to try to justify it.
It is better to be vocal than silent because it means that the company can address it in someway and potentially try to improve.
All in all, if you’ve been here from the start of the game i think its safe to say Anet has poor management and rewards teams to say the least but hey, they’re trying.
If HoT isnt good enough for you, I would recommend you try blade and soul, paid beta access is Oct 30th.

Mmm. Good point, that.
To be fair, “new legendary weapons” was never promised to be in the expansion by any of the trailers; just precursor crafting. Which is going to be present at launch.
The fact that raids are 3 weeks after launch is a great thing, and here’s why:
1. Allows us to finish the HoT story without the raid storyline spoiling it.
2. Gives Anet some time to fix any obvious balance issues that rise up from the new elite specs. If something like the Symbolic Avenger glitch pops up, Anet will want to squash it before people abuse it to finish raids.
And hey, maybe the new raids have stuff required for the new legendary weapons. Then it would make sense that they’re slightly delayed.

Yeah I feel like an idiot, was amongst the latest of my friends to buy the expansion (just before the last beta weekend) being cynical the whole way through as my reason and now I feel like I’ve been swindled on the last minute. Sigh and I was sitting there thinking the time window between then and the expansion was too short to get mugged off.

So OP you’re complaining about pre purchasing because raids and legendaries wont be out at launch when we’ve know for sometime that raids and to a lesser extant legendaries would be after launch? If that’s the case I feel no pity for you. It was in your power as a consumer to make an informed decision before buying a product, not Anets.

No we didn’t. What was said at the Raid reveal (think it was at PAX?) was that the first wing of the first Raid would be released a short time period after the release of the expansion to give people time to play some content and get their masteries levelled up a bit.
I believe this video will clarify a little for you
The live stream that announced raids said the first wing would be out a week or so after release and the other wings would be released after that.

People find reasons to rant for every single kitten, really…
few problems story and maps could easily be done in a sitting. if any living story is example all those were done in an hour or so season 2 episodes just felt to be dragging on about oh dragon this dragon that egg salad people etc.
lets compare to how ffxiv handle it. for 1 people needed to reach max level which was bump up by ten levels as well as fates(events) not giving much exp in the new zones making leveling having A huge steep exp requirements to hit 60 so 2-3 weeks is a reasonable amount of time needed to get to max level and start gearing. now I leveled a machinist which starts at lvl 35 and i had to reach 50 then start on HW stuff which took me about 6 days in total since story parts were very lengthy but very very engaging hands down best story I have ever experience in a mmo or in a game in a long time.
now delaying Alexander for ffxiv Is by all means very reasonable everyone was on the same page.
now look at gw2 your still max level raids from what they said you gonna need a mix of ascended at least which base ascended parts any player should have everything minus the armor(the most expensive wasteful part of it since it does not effect stats greatly and is mainly for 40+ fractals)
and with the delay of raids so they just expect us to do 1 fractal a day till the first one comes out as well as legendaries a large amount of them being on hold. guess what we’ll be doing for few more weeks OLD DUNGEONS STILL. it is like no at anet is using their dam head. hell when gw2 first launch it did not take me more then a week to get 100% world since i mainly level thru 100% maps. only thing back then is people were still discovering how to do dungeons which first week of arah explorable was a nightmare.
I am kinda of glad anet push me away from their game ages ago cause I’m waiting till I see some nice third party site deals for heart of thorns
…OP, is this your first MMO ever? ‘Cause this is absolutely nothing new. WoW’s still going relatively strong after ten years of the exact same thing. I mean, in WoW, you don’t get a legendary now until well nigh the end of an expansion’s life cycle, acquiring bits and pieces from raids that aren’t even designed by launch.
Suffice to say, if you can’t handle content-gating, MMOs are not for you, mate.
I doubt that these legendary and raids are not ready to be launched the 23rd. They are probably ready, but… For both these content, you can’t go after them right away anyway. Raids need some masteries and the new legendary need stuff that can only be acquire at the expansion. My bet is that they prefer to put as little as possible the 23rd so that less bug will occurs at launch, less risk of problem with servers if the expansion at launch is smaller and they will be able to see what happen with the old precursor method and adjust some stuff for the release of the new ones.
At least that’s my opinion. Maybe, since those two content can’t be use right away anyway, they prefer to put more resource on the rest of the expansion and keep themselves 2-3 more weeks to finish up raids and new legendaries.
It’s probably a combination of those reason.
“Collections for the existing legendary weapons will be available on launch day”
What exactly does this mean/refer to?
“Collections for the existing legendary weapons will be available on launch day”
What exactly does this mean/refer to?
The existing Legendary weapons will receive collection/crafting method to get their Precursor outside of the Mystic Forge/Drop/Buying on TP.
Anet delivers expansion at 99.99999999% completion (exaggeration intended)
OP claims that he is being ripped off by a completely unfinished product.
Does anyone honestly expect to be able to finish one of these new legendaries in less than two weeks? (ETA of new legendaries)
I don’t see a problem here.

We really just don’t know what they want to do with them, they might be releasing them in some sort of story arc where it makes sense. We don’t know the plans ArenaNet has for this to call it unfinished. It could be part of season 3.
Its quite disappointing. First they say the addon will bring a new set of legendaries. Then it was 3 new ones with the release of the expansion and now the first 3 will be a few weeks after the expansion.
It sounds like they want to stretch the updates after the expansion because they have not anything ready for Living world season 3 yet.
As someone who played Lotro for 6 years, you don’t wanna see what unfinished product really is.
What they are doing here is actually nice. They give you time to play the actual content without having to rush through it in order to reach end-game. It’s actually a very good move.
If raids and new legendary weapons are the solo reason for you to buy HoT, I hope you can get the refund.
This post shows that OP never play an expansion in mmo game before.
There was only dungeons, wvw and pvp in gw2 at launch. No fractal, living story, eotm, ect. Did you say GW2 was unfinished product? Nope, I don’t think so.

My point is that on the date I bought Gw2’s core game it wasn’t on the premise that I would receive the living story and eotm on the date I bought the game. I had the game the first winter after launch so I don’t know what happened at launch but like I said, I would be equally annoyed if just weeks before the release they turned around and said that wvw and dungeons weren’t playable until a month after launch despite giving a release date and people buying the game based on being given that release date.

It wasn’t but the content we’re actually recieving on HoT launch compared to how much we would have received with the previous model of regular updates (and have been missing out on since HoT announcement) is beginning to become negligible.
You were under the impression of something and it was clearly based on misunderstandings on your end, yet you keep whining? GGWP
The context of this thread is pretty ludicrous.
I’m disappointed that we’re only getting three legendaries from the get-go as well, but I also appreciate the sheer magnitude of effort that goes into building those collections for all old legendaries and new ones, so I think it’s okay. As long as it isn’t like 8 months before we see the rest of them, no big deal. As far as raids go, it’s pretty standard fare to expect the wings to be phased in post-expansion release. This is done to continually tune future wings to the correct difficulty and to give people a constant drip of new content to enjoy and be excited about.
There will be plenty of sweet stuff to do before raids even show up, like getting masteries and pursuing the Fractal legendary backpiece. I really want to see how they did with the new 50-100 instabilities.
Think of it this way, they could have delayed the release by 2-4 more weeks and given us the finished product instead. I don’t see that as being any better.

You seriously underestimate the value of having players do the raid wings in sequence over time as opposed to unleashing it all at once. As far as the legendaries are concerned, I think it would be crazy to hold up the whole launch two months just because one team has to create 13 more legendary collection ensembles.
Say what you like about the delay’s impact on how content is played, I’m not too happy about it myself, but you can’t seriously say that them not meeting production schedules is something we should be happy about. If we pay for the expansion before hand, which I did out of percieved trust and respect between me and the company, it should be expected that they deliver on their end. Just because they’ve made a good product it doesn’t neccesarily mean that’s what some people paid for.
Maybe I’m just used to Steam early access where games you pay for end up far never getting finished more often than not, but I am fully okay with getting 98% of everything on release date and having a few things—things I still end up getting for the money I paid—staggered downstream a bit.
I mean, it’s like we were all promised Living World season 3 with our HoT purchase, but obviously that’s not something we get right away on launch. They even told us we were getting raids and legendaries delayed the day they announced those specific features in blog posts. I don’t think ANet has been dishonest at all.
Someone needs to take his chilling pill.
So many people complaining about a product that hasn’t even been released yet as if the world was ending. Omg I have to w8 a few weeks b4 I can do a raid. My life is over. Conspiracy theories abound! Why don’t you guys actually play the expansion b4 you start to totally rip it apart.
Seriously though, are we not going to talk about recycling content? The last Halloween and Xmas events being exact copies of the previous years and have been utter bullkitten. Let’s talk about that more seeing as how we’ve already beat the rest of this post into submission. Seriously, I get more seasonal content out my Runescape account that I log into once a year.

MMO launches, patches, etc are never 100% complete or finished. It’s an ongoing process.
I’m also concerned about a lacking amount of content, but you think you’re going to be able to farm a new legend in the first week anyways?

And you can always ask for a refund like some people have done and even got after spending gems for items, that was then deleted from their accounts at said refund.
So anet could have said sorry you spent some/all of the gems already no refund, but instead did the honest thing even if it required work and let people get their refund.
People shouldn’t preorder these days, I remember Dark Souls 2, I bought it at release date and while it was good the first few weeks, I started to dislike and hate the game because it wasn’t as good as the first one in the end. So the thing is: Don’t buy until you have clear evidence of the content you will get…

It’s not completely unfinished … many of the things that are part of HoT will be ready for launch. In fact, I’m counting on experiencing many bugs and unfinished things, no different than any other software I’ve used that gets patched over time as bugs are revealed and fixed or features added/changed. What I don’t get is that the experience you’re describing you feel negatively about has been the status quo for GW2 since release.
