Best aid to Warrior/Guardian for Dungeons?
What do you mean no mouse?
Seriously you are playing without a mouse? Dude! plug a mouse right there! its nearly impossible to play properly and at a competent level for dungeons without a mouse!
I have no idea what you’re asking, but…
1. Hounds of Balth are god awful…
2. No characters move faster than one another, unless they have a signet/swiftness
3. You better armor/weapons
4. Learn you class first and foremost… learn your traits/skill/utilities everything about the class before rerolling
5. Don’t enter a dungeon blind sighted.. look up a guide or read up on it; it will help you tremendously
6. Open world PvE is far easier and more faceroll than dungeons; that being said if you don’t know how to play Warrior/Guardian properly you’ll still be as useless as your ranger
7. Most higher level players use their keyboard. Learning your hotkeys are very important while using your mouse to get faster sights on everything. LEARN YOUR HOTKEYS, IT’S ONLY 1-0
8. Be more specific when you ask stuff
That’s all for now
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
couple tips for dungeon beginners
let the group know ahead of time that you havent done the dungeon – if they know that from the start, they’ll either kick you at the start (at least not wasting your time, and tbh, i wouldnt want to play with a group like that anyway) or like most that i have had happen, they will be more patient with you and give you tips/advice as you go thru
secondly – have a swiftness skill available in your build. whether it be on one of your available weapons skill slots, or a utility skill slot. (warhorn for ranger as an example)

You can’t play without a mouse.
Thanks guys. Great info. Really, really appreciate your time.
Guess I need to either:
1. Fire-up my Alienware m18X Windows laptop (with mouse). Ugh. Alienware runs GW2 like an oven. Graphics not as good as Retina Display.
or
2. Find a gaming appropriate Apple mouse.
Touchpad not cutting it.
BTW – I got absolutely wonderful help from 99% of fellow players in dungeons. GW2 is a great community.
Bottom line:
1. Get a mouse
2. Learn intricacies of game
Comments:
Hotkeys – Feel pretty confident about hotkeys. But I hate to strafe using WSAD. My forward/backward/left/right are bound to up/down/left/right arrows. May need to re-think this. Turning around is a nightmare. Binding turn-around key doesn’t help in a tight, confusing dungeon battle.
Admit I need to study traits/skill/utilities/dungeons.
Jay – So surprised Hounds are awful. Glad you told me. Here I thought I was being a big help. They saved me often in PvE. Agree they take forever to recharge.
Thanks again. Much appreciated, A.
P.S.
Sorry my question was not specific enough. Basically, I read in other forums that Necromancer or Elementalists are most requested profession to join Warriors and Guardians in dungeons. I spent a couple hours testing various Race/Profession combinations without a clear winner.
With your advice I now realize it isn’t about Race/Profession – rather about good analysis of tools, character, dungeons, etc.
Chuckle …
Think I’m addicted. Playing till 4 – 5 am several days in a row. Best stop playing, take a nap and study up more.
No mouse, this guy
This is an action mmo, you need to actually be able to move and react quickly if you actually want to avoid attacks and be a better player.
But yes, Rangers are considered to be the weakest dungeon class.
Mesmers and then Eles are probably the best two classes to support a Guardian/Warrior group, in that order. Don’t make a necro if you are looking for a high tier PvE class.
I’d rather take a mesmer over anything for the 5th slot.

Yea one mes and 4 heavies seems to be the flavor of the month. Time warp is sweet.

Heh, not exactly.

I’d say they are, with the exception of fotm 40+ Jade Maw Search and Rescue.
Not to play the elitist class card, but Engineers and Necromancers have less overall damage output than a Ranger with a brain (assuming all build for direct damage spec/gear).
My Ranger does more damage than my Mesmer even, but the lack of Time Warp puts me in a position as to which I bring to any particular run.
Warriors and Guardians being top tier is dead on though.

Rangers are NOT great dungeoneers. They’re considered the worst of the 8 classes.
Why are they the worst? I’ll tell you.
- Very little support
- Pets are 10 chances to 1, dead in boss fights and certain mob encounters (Even with 30 BM and pet swapping)
- Since their pet is dead (Or mostly on standby which it should be in dungeons), Their damage is kitten poor
- Little diversity (IN Dungeons)
It’s insulting you’d say a Necro OR an Engineer does less damage than Ranger. You really do need to research your classes. Also while DPS IS important; that’s not the only thing that constitutes a successful dungeon run

As a Guardian running with a hammer I love to have a ranger in the group, just for the water field
Lol, you have an alienware but you don`t have a mouse xD
By the way, necromancer is actually the toughest class of the game, on par of warriors, if you use wisely death shroud.

You’re only correct on the lack of party support for a ranger. The rest of your view is entirely off. Damage and being able to play /your/ profession effectively are the only points in determining a successful run of anything. Even in fractals, unless your prof has projectile reflection or block skills, everyone is on the same playing field. The most you can do to support your team is making the encounter end as soon as possible.
Also, only bad rangers have low damage. Same as every other profession.

Same playing field, lol. Yep, lack of good multi-target dps and terrible support skills is definitely an equal playing field…

Don’t forget your class mechanic is near useless in dungeons

I feel sorry that you both haven’t seen capable Rangers. If a Ranger can’t hit multiple targets, they’re bad at their prof. (Ignoring that the important/difficult portions of runs require focused single target damage anyhow.) The pets are in a pretty bad state now, and still have minimal effect on the prof’s viability.

People who say Ranger is the weakest dungeon class have never played with a good Ranger in a dungeon.
People who say Ranger is the weakest dungeon class have never played with a good Ranger in a dungeon.
Every class says this. If you say engies are the worst someone else will chime in with the exact same response.
I don’t really care what other people would say, I don’t really care what other classes would say, and I don’t really care what Rangers would say (as I am not a Ranger).
I do know for a fact that a Ranger is a useful addition to dungeon runs/PVE content given that they are playing the class correctly. The fact that most (99.9%) of Rangers who play the game do in fact play their class incorrectly for PVE is not a relevant factor to the usefulness of the class.
Any mouse will work fine in your mac plug and play, you don’t need an apple specific mouse. So yeah get a mouse

For what it’s worth, I don’t give a kitten about rangers and I agree they’re a terrible class, objectively speaking. The only thing they’re really good for is having the pet take aggro in lowbie runs. Otherwise they’re pretty much dead weight.
Necromancer is pretty bad too though. Engineer, on the other hand, is amazing. Best condition damage and vulnerability spam from a safe 1500 range is a little bit too good, even. They’re the only class I consider worth taking over 5 guardians.
