There are some dungeons in the game with mobs that do too much damage, and have too much health.

I can give you some examples, but you probably know what i’m talking about if you’ve ever ran CM or TA. (CoE I heard does this as well, but I haven’t tested it with the new changes yet.)

There is a reason nobody runs it, the mobs are ridiculous, they don’t you immediately if you get in melee range of them, and with the new changes to waypoints. Lol.

In Honor of the Waves and some other dungeons, the fights are FUN, I will use HOTW as an example because its my favorite dungeon, but mobs have WAY too much HP… the fight is basicly 30 minutes of trying to kill a massive wall of red bar, its NOT fun.

In many dungeons, many people just skip mobs because they have BS mechanics like chain knockdowns and ontop of that, way too much HP.

HP is the biggest problem, mobs just have too much.

They do have a bit of HP, but not “too much”. People don’t run CM because it doesnt give cores/lodestones, and no one likes fighting all those bandits in small contained space. I personally hate running TA because of the kitten blossoms poisoning you 24/7. Doing it w/o a staff guardian, shortbow thief, or an ele is a pain in the kitten to clear the blossoms. Most of the bosses can be killed within a relatively short amount of time with proper dps. If any boss takes you 30min to kill, you’re doing it wrong.

I think the mechanic of beating on a stationary boss with a large HP pool to be a step backwards. If I wanted to do that, I would go back to GW1 or some other old MMO where combat was more stationary.

We have a dynamic combat system, so we should have bosses that move around or force us to move around more. Kholer makes for a decent introductory boss because he moves around a lot and has an ability that can be lethal if you’re caught in it. I believe stationary bosses are part of the reason why warriors are highly favored for many of the dungeon runs. They specialize in stationary damage via hundred blades.

GW1 had more interesting and memorable fights such as Shiro and Mallyx (assuming you fought them normally). The Shiro fight even gave you a special ability that would recharge instantly at various points of the fight. Shiro would teleport various times and his abilities would change based on how low his HP was. Mallyx would summon adds and displace you in so many different ways. I would really love it if some of these old fight mechanics were an inspiration to future dungeon boss fights.

Most of “stationary” combat is made possible with the possibility of guardians or sheer knowledge of the fight. A few months ago people kept calling dungeon experiences “Ranged Wars 2” since all everyone did was range bosses. By being ranged, the bosses technically moved around targetting different players. As players evolved to understand bosses AI + mechanics, more and more of them are being dumbed down to keeping them stationary. Hell, full melee lupicus is starting to become a trend for the top players.
